Sorry but I personally don't think UP deserved to win in 2000. This routine is mostly floor work while UST was already doing basket tosses, swan dives, tumbling passes and multiple 2.5-high pyramid transitions at that time. Video will be available for viewing very soon.
@onyxxxguapo Congratulations on your realization. Now if we can only go back 11 years ago and tell the judges that the 2000 edition should've been judged on basket tosses, swan dives, tumbling passes and multiple 2.5-high pyramid transitions and not choreography, which, ironically is SDT's supposed strength.
degree of difficulty yes...but originality and innovation from the costumes to the routines...naahhh! UP smashed them...the kickboxing and stomp routines and their vertical linear costumes were trendsetters...2001 UST wore linear costumes, 2000 they were still wearing those skirts as well as those old school cheer moves. check the videos...UST 2000 skirts....2001 linear overalls...obviously UP PEP are innovators. :)
katuwa.! transitions ah.. haha!! dati poor ang liftings tas wala nga yatang tosses! pero ngayon ibang iba and pawede na r&b. hindi xe ako aware dati. malamang elem palang ako nean. haha!
It's funny because sabi nila, madaya daw ang costume ng UP. Masyado daw na-stun ang judges sa costume ng UP kaya hindi na pinansin yung ibang criteria ng cheerdance. Then ginaya the following year.
this routine is groundbreaking...and still has a GREAT influence on today's cheerleading??
a squad that will do a routine like this deserves to be kicked back to the olden times..for sure they will win there...
but now, i could say that UP is good..
just wondering why they still need to put themes ( as in an ethnic theme)..cheerleading is cheerleading..it's okay to encorporate different genres in the routine..but the theme?
i was a thomasian then (1 year ako lng ako) nung napanood ko ito at tlgang nagalingan ako especially dun sa part n nagpapatunog na cla using their body parts astig... now i am taking my master's in UP... proud to be part... hope we defend our title this year (i know we will)
you couldn't have said it any better. this performance reminds me of the stompers of broadway and those black anime stick figures. UP Pep Squad is really ahead of their times. and every single year they always set the tone for the FOLLOWING year, i swear! no other school has achieved this feat by far.
and choosing one particular sport every year as their theme? man! that's truly amazing. they're not only performers, they're ARTISTS!
YES, agree me! one of d best UP PEP routine if not the best. hehe. dito nagstart un jazz pants craze which was adapted by most of the UAAP schools the following year/s. also, un mga dance moves, formations, arm movements, cannon, etc.. and the elevation of the competition in terms of style.. dito nag start ang lahat. pati mga panggagaya ng d OTHERS. opening pa lang, WOW - kakaiba tlaga UP IS REALY THE TREND SETTER!!!
Panira yung non-stop ice cream, pero panalo pa rin ang UP PEP!

but they're good, not considering the theme..

IMHO, this routine is better than that of 2001. Mas energetic, hindi sabog ang cheers at drums.
