The A380's have a place in my heart, but the 747 is the original and that's something that no one can take away. It is still the benchmark for which all heavy aircraft are based simply because it was the first of its kind. Sure, you can make something bigger and safer and more efficient, but you just can't take away that personality. God Bless the 747

The B 747 remains the world's best and most successfull aircraft. She has grace, personality ,and pride. So Airbus Industries' A 380 may be somewhat better in terms of size and performance, but it will never reach B 747.

Why do 747's keep thier nose wheel up for so long during landing? and what are them flaps that come up out of the wings?

its called speedbrakes..it helps the aircraft slowing down during landing and also in the air.

they keep their wheel up, to increase their drag and slow the plane down

speedbrakes, or spoilers. Interrupts the air flow over the wings, making the aircraft less aerodynamic, therefore slowing it down.
