THIS GAME IS SO GODDAMN UNDERRATED! Dear fellow Americans, as a german, i recommend to you: If you will ever have the chance to download this game for the Wii Vrtual Console, DO IT! Or you can play the british version of the game on an emulator of course. Don't miss out one of the best RPG's on the SNES. Even of all time.
I love this game, but I got stuck in the airship part and I never got past it...still a wonderful game with good gameplay and a good soundtrack to match.
this is a game which is perfect...i played only three..terranigma, secret of mana and illusion of time...all for the snes...it was in a time when the game was in the main aspect and not the grafik or gameplay =)
@NoirThing I will forever hate this game's ending. Leaving you with a cliffhanger that will never be resolved to the greatest game ever made is just cruel.
Never has a game evoked as many emotions as Terranigma. I have my PAL copy stored away somewhere for safekeeping. Shame I lost the box and manuals lol.
Dungeons' themes were awesome as well, too bad none of them are heard on this vid :( I just hope this game gets re-released sometime in the near future, come on Square-Enix, this game could easily rival Zelda: LTTP for the best action/RPG on the SNES
It seemed pointless for this game to have an overworld map since there's not much emphasis on exploration. I mean, in chrono Trigger and FF, it made sense.
I wish this game's traveling system was more like Illusion of Gaia.
@gyromancy2 the overworld map was pointless? the game is about underworld and overworld, so how can an overworld map be possibly pointless? why do you need an emphasis on "exploration" to justify a world map? why do you think there is not enough exploration on terranigma? questions over question about your comment.
Here is a quick list of great music you left off. Some of the best video game music ever coming from this game you left off. And here is what you left off that is very good:
Evergreen theme
Lorie (or Europe) theme
Freedom theme
Underground map theme
Perel theme
But you had the Crysta and overworld map themes in which are a must also.
I had the pleasure of playing and beating this game last year. A wonderful game with great music and a fine story line. Worth downloading and playing.
man the graphics look awesome for a late snes game awesome use of scrolls on the underworld and excellent music if square-enix wont release this game on the US virtual console then i have no choice but to play it on the snes emulater in fact im going to find the rom of this game right now
I've heard nothing but great things about Terranigma, but I never got around to playing it since it was never released in the US. One of these days I'll download the ROM and have a go at it. The least I can say is that it has great music, but I'll definitely have to experience it first hand to see how the soundtrack fits in with the story.
Definitely do it. I just played it for the first time last June and loved it. It just feels so fresh, and unlike any RPG you've ever played, partly because the story remains a mystery for so long.
It wasnt released in the U.S thats why you probably never heard it. just get the rom version. You seriously need to play this game if you want to consider yourself a game guy
terranigma, breath of fire II,zelda ocarina of time
now i want to find all the ff games from the first one till the last one...currently playing ff7(i wish it would be for nintendo rather than pstation...)they should have maintained their pertnership nintendo and squareshoft that time...
I dont know what you think guys. But i think one reason RPG-games of the SNES era are so great is because of the missing voice output. Music stands out more.
And most important you can put yourself (thoughts; feelings) into the game much better. Thats why we love them so much!!!
Terranigma, Secret of evermore/mana 4ever.
If you dont believe me, ask yourself Y Zelda is still so succesfull. EXACTLY!! ^^
I agree. I like voice acting when done right, but if they have uninspired low-budget voice acting, it kills the feeling of the game. I'd much rather have great music than voice acting. Ever since Chrono Cross, most games have had disappointing soundtracks. I was really disappointed with Suikoden III's for example. They seemed to focus on making the game more cinematic rather than providing many quality songs.
I never knew of this game until I was much much much older than when I had an SNES, which is perfectly understandable. Even after so many years, it easily earned a very high spot in my list of top SNES games instantly. But hey, it's Enix, what can you expect?
I'm not gonna dog this game, because it looks awesome, but I actually kind of hate Enix for ruining Square. Ever since the merger, they've just been milking Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Maybe the best SNES game ever? From a personal view, I'd answer yes to that question. Since this video is about the audio, hehe, I start with that one. Great music, touching even. Story line is awesome, makes me shiver. Probably the only game EVER that made me feel for the characters. So many of them got a personalty, one that the creators have made perfect. Great video, made many memories come back =) Thank you!
@EvilSmiskfisk While I wholeheartedly agree that this game rules beyond belief, I'm surprised that you felt for the characters. This game has a pretty iffy english translation, and the characters' personality suffered for it, assuming they had a good personality in the original version. However, I do agree that the gameplay was very well handled, and the story was very cool and interesting, even if it was badly translated.
The overworld felt "tacked on" since it was still a pretty linear game. I bet the director played FF 6 and Chrono Trigger and then thought "Gosh, I need to make an overworld like that too." And there was Too much spearing gameplay for my taste. Sometimes the game never told you what to do or go to next, which caused me to get lost. But I LOVED THE MUSIC. This soundtrack easily rivals Chrono & Final Fantasy 5-6. And The visuals are breathtakingly good
@EvilSmiskfisk I really love this game. One of my favorites. My other favorite games are Soul Blazer, and Illusion of Gaia (basically the Gaia Trilogy) and Chrono Trigger. Maybe I have something for "time-traveling" games, or RPGs with good story in general, if you include Secret of Mana
@EvilSmiskfisk It's very hard to say that it's the best SNES game ever made since it has Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6/3, Earthbound, Super Mario World, Contra 3, Super Castlevania, Super Metroid, Mario Kart, Actraiser, Lufia 2, TLoZ: A Link To The Past and Secret of Mana to compete with for the title.
Personally, I say that this is the greatest game ever made, and the opening theme is one of the greatest compositions of all time.
This game is one of the very best I ever played. I hated the first part then, once you're through it, I got to LOVE the game and cried whole-heartily at the end of it. Such a classic, wonderful game.
