Such a beautiful song sung with such wonderful harmony it's almost painful. If nothing can calm me, comfort, and encourage me, this can. Mahalo nui loa Makaha Sons.
I come back to this video every time want to remember the rain in my face and the sun on my back. Brings tears to my eyes and an ache in my heart. Mahalo.
Mahalo nui loa, akcirvav! Count on it, I will be purchasing that CD to add to my collection. It is so wonderful being here at home in Hawaii. The Makaha Sons were playing here in Hilo a few weeks ago, but I was having severe back problems at the time, so couldn't stand in line to get in.
The music of the Makaha Sons is *so* beautiful. This particular song, does anyone know if it's on one of their CDs? If so, which one? They, our beloved Bruddah Iz, and the Cazimero Brothers are definitely ones that touch my heart and soul.. always!
@leftycraig yeah Hawaiian music (traditional one) has a very particular sound.. Very deep and meaningful .. The slack key sound is very parcticular on its own...
my funeral song - already selected - as it is perfect for life and death. I dream of my love with me on a white sandy beach - sung in perfect harmony by these men!!
While I will always appreciate IZ and his contributions, this is my favorite version. The Sons just add a little depth or something to it that I find magical.
Makaha Sons (aka Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau with Iz and his brother Skippy). Beautiful voices...I could listen to them all day long. I've seen them in person three times and they sound just as awesome in person. Hawaiian music definitely soothes your soul. If you're feeling stressed or just want to relax, listen and your troubles will temporarily float away. Me ke aloha...your voices are just beautiful.....and so is Moon!!
Hey KickinKelly, its chicken skin, not goose bumps. But I understand what you're getting at. They are as great as when Brother Iz was still alive and the star of the Makaha Sons of Niihau.
Me, a HI grown Country gal been on the mainland 25 yrs says goosebumps which makes my ohana in HI laugh. They call me Haole Girl cuz I'm so white!...lol
(The Mainland has missed it , folks. My goodness, if this music could replace - if even only for one day - the horrid hip-grinding noise that mainlanders listen to . . . . many of the tensions of American life would simply fade away. ) I agree Mahalo!
Got married on Maui, spent 5 days there, hopped a puddle jumper and spent 5 days on Oahu. Met bruddah IZ's buddy he grew up with at Duke's and drank till I puked talking about IZ...best memory!
Countdown: 21 days until we go HOME!! Dec 17 we fly home to da Big Island.. home, home, home. The music of the Makaha Sons is so typical of the most beautiful sounds of the earth. We all miss Iz, he is with the angels now, but we still have you. ; )

I agree, but not all Mainlanders like mainlander hip-hop. There, right now, are over 28,881, and now 28,882 that love this music and IZ, and the Makaha Sons, and other's. And Somewhere over The Rainbow has over 6 million that love it. I grew up with my mom playing beautiful Hawaiin music.
@DIANNEELEE Not sure IF you know, IZ's version of Over the Rainbow was used in Meet Joe Black with Brad Pitt. I recognized the song however, NOT sure IF it was listed in the credits.
@treebee2 Yup, Hawaiian music tends to affect/effect people. I too listen to this song to "calm" myself. Someone "borrowed" my Ho'oluana CD which was in my car when I went shopping fortunately, I have it on my Windows Media Player.
These guys are the best Hawaii has to offer and "White Sandy Beach" was the song that made me fall in love with them. They have a DVD available if anyone is interested in seeing more of the Makaha Sons!
