  • At 4:48 my mind is lost.

  • Great build up!

  • I frakkin love this song. I listened to it for the first time about 5 years ago. It was the first post metal (or however you wanna call this type of music) song I ever heard and it completely got me into the genre. Simply mesmerizing.

  • Autumn into Awesome.

  • Why do I get the feeling this drummer aint the greatest... when he goes into double bass, it sounds uneven, almost sloppy. Hmm...i dunno.

Regardless, this music is, as "omisortus" put it: Hypnotic. :D

  • @Timmaycheese

Theres a lot of tempo shifts and rubato playing in it so it makes the drummer sound "Out" but its because its hard to do rubato and out of time on drums and make it sound good.

  • sometimes I regret living in this planet with all the bad things it has. but then I remember this music was created in this same planet. I'm happy again.

  • hypnotic

  • Way too many people write Pelican off because they are a instrumental band. Dam shame that is.Ah well their loss.

  • pelican is a fucking awesome band. i had the priviledge to see them live and it was memorable. this is my fav song of them, simply perfect.

  • i was bitten

  • Awesome

  • wow amazing

  • post rock is my life. explosions in the sky great, this great, god is an astronaut is amazing.

  • @pjsvibrations me to!!!!

  • I worship the planet to this music. the grass is greener and the air is sweeter.

  • Words can't describe how awesome this is. Inspiring on so many different levels.

It so awesome it makes even this two-picture video look dynamic and alive.

  • 4 people doesn't know about music....

thanks Pelican, and thanks KSCIAA for the uploads

  • I showed my friend this song. He said he listened to all 10 minutes and wasn't impressed.

I told him how bad I felt for him, because he could not experience the mind-blowing, awe-inspiring music that is Pelican.

  • I was doing a cool-down 10 minute run at a track meet earlier this evening and I was listening to this song. Having previously heard it a hundred times, i waited, and waited. The moment the climax hit I felt my entire body just involuntarily move faster; my whole body tingled of intense joy. I love Pelican.

  • @metallica606 LOL

  • This is so uplifting and awesome.

  • 2:43

    dreams

  • Very explosions in the sky like. Thumbs up. Better than the first two songs (Mammoth & Drought) I listened to by this band. I don't understand what's appealing about one chord being strummed for 4 minutes. ENOUGH SAID. This song made me think twice of my first opinion.

  • so much is wrong with this comment

  • I love this song and this whole album so much. It's probably the most worn out vinyl I own haha

  • here's to another ten years, keep going guys!

  • if anyone's interested, sleepmakeswaves are an incredible band from australia worth looking into as well :)

  • Out of all the Pelican videos I've seen on YouTube, I've only seen 3 dislikes! I just have to say, 3 dumbest people ever.

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG.

  • The intro reminds me lot of Weight from isis. Awesome song

  • I can't get over the first few minutes of this song.......heavenly.

  • art rock meets mogwai meets individuals-accumulating-their-own expierience meets godspeedyoublackemperor meets inverse blind idiot god meets thanks-for-no-vocals! :)

    meets etc.

    i think i even hear 3Mile Pilot.....inadvertently

  • 4:47 onwards is pure fucking bliss, this band, Isis and Neurosis complete me.

  • I think I just came. Scrumtrulescent.

  • does anybody have a tab for this song?

  • Reminds me of Agalloch or Opeth. Progressive metal I would say if I had to put a genre on it. The lack of vocalist is cool, but prehaps it would be nice to have one.

  • best subscription i ever made.

  • @mverdi9 It's the only one I've ever made, and I don't think I'll ever be making another.

  • who is the one douchebag that did not like this???

  • holy smokes am I tripping or is the picture in this video like zooming out?

  • @lebocharp

    dude i know..

  • @lebocharp haha I think you're high bro.

  • Finally. A great band NOT ruined by a pitiful lead vocalist.

  • Great song, could anyone recommend two of their best albums?

  • @ISISbandLive My two favorite pelican albums would be "australasia" and "the fire in our throats will beckon the thaw". "australasia" is dense and sludgey, whereas "the fire in our throats will beckon the thaw" is a bit softer and more melodic. Also, check out the March into the sea ep.

  • @flynncyp9 Nice, thanks.

  • Does this remind anyone of a slightly heavier instrumental pinback?

  • fucking amazing song

  • im amased brings a tear to my eye

  • i thought it was stoner doom metal. then i heard city of echoes and i thought otherwise

  • i would call the genre of pelicans music, mind music. their music makes me go to the edges of my mind, and just think about life itself. and to that, i say, thank you Pelican. thank you for creating a way for me to look inside my self.

  • genre is kick ass rock and roll man!!, screw genres!!!

  • One of the highlights of my playlist. Yup, I still LOVE this one!!!!

  • i used to be lonely and listened to this as i walked home from school...

  • Love this one, nice post!!

  • The Last Day of Winter is also another great song by Pelican.

  • Damn KSCIAA you've got Pelican too?

    YOu have everything

  • This Will Destroy You is great. But I like Pelican a lot.

  • i think it has the post metal sense of melody and instrumentation, but leans allot more toward stoner rock

  • Beautiful. Just beautiful.

  • Its not about the genre, Its about the music.

  • @Youckaify couldn't have put it better.

  • theres so many genres because people feel the need to classify things down to a science. Every band is gonna have its own 5 word genre if it keeps up.

  • I would call it "Ultra-Awesomeness!"

  • yea ... its basically "post-metal" ... but you might not be able to find much stuff on it ... because its a fairly new "name" for a genre ... with there being so many genres now ... its hard for them to put any "one" name stapled to thier ass cheeks ...

  • What type of genre would you call this ?

  • Good.

  • @Vipercrazy1

genre is kick ass rock and roll man!!, screw genres!!!

  • @Vipercrazy1 ambient / doom / stoner metal

  • @xturtlex

Nah, this is pretty straight out post-metal.

  • @Vipercrazy1 instruMetal lol

  • @Vipercrazy1 music

  • @Vipercrazy1

    experimental

  • mogwai, pelican, explosions in the sky, russian circles and red sparowes. and life is good.

  • I'll have to check out Russian Circles and Red Sparowes. Thanks for the tip! Saw Mogwai at Trees (way back when). I also love Godspeed You Black Emperor and Bardo Pond. Give them a listen, if you haven't already. Oh, and God Is An Astronaut.

  • Try This Will Destroy You. Its like that but lighter and more nostalgic. Isis is awesome but with slight vocals. Neurosis is goddamn good, but thats a HARD version of post-metal. And yeah, Red Sparowes is pure awesomeness.

  • For more of the harder post-metal you want Cult of Luna and Callisto in my opinion. Cult of Luna - Ghost Trails for example always reminded me of Pelican.

  • Mouth of the Architect is also amazing.

  • just discovered them from watching a isis video, really good music.

  • someones gotta tell me were to find isis and aerogramme...or is it isis and aerogramme conbined..or..wtf..where do i get it?ive only gotten to hear like two songs=[

  • well, theres only three songs on the album so thats about it

  • ya...actually...i figured that out within an hour after i posed that bultin..thank you though.know of any other bands i should listen to?.i like new music=]

  • theoceanmaster, You need to find Rosetta, The Ocean, Giant Squid, Yakuza, Neurosis, SIgur Ros, the ISis/Aerogramme cross ep is fantastic by the way. Let me think here. Oh, Kayo Dot. Cult of Luna, Russian Circles, Explosions in the SKy, Godflesh, Jesu, Red Sparowes, Cult of Luna, God is an Astronaut ... sorry, that is all I can think of right now.

  • I think that covers everything really.

  • Don't forget "This Will Destroy You", "If These Trees Could Talk", "Godspeed You! Black Emperor!", Mogwai, Caspian, Helios, and Eluvium

  • Or just find Neurosis and you will be OK...

  • Don't forget Long Distance Calling, a band form germany, the new album ist great. Mastodon you must try, too. :)

  • Oh I forget the best band, Agalloch, awesome!

  • Intronaut are also awesome definitely check them out.

  • Hell yeah man, listened to this album outside on my porch during a thunderstorm...life changing experience.

  • Really? I've got to try that sometime.

  • i can vouch for this dude..immore into rusian circles tough..from the same area..a bit more upbeat for the most part though...red sparrowes aint bad either

  • fucking great shit. Pelican is definitely much more superb under the influence of psychedelics and with a few good friends. Well, actually, all of KSCIAA's vid's are great for spirtual adventure. Definitely makes for some good headspace.

  • ISIS is pretty good.

  • If you like this stuff, you gotta check out

The Ocean, ISIS or Burst. All very different but at the same time so much the same.

  • pelican brings back memories for me..

  • You just gotta do a little research.

  • Nice answer!

  • @KSCIAA Or have friends who are already into it.
