I frakkin love this song. I listened to it for the first time about 5 years ago. It was the first post metal (or however you wanna call this type of music) song I ever heard and it completely got me into the genre. Simply mesmerizing.
Theres a lot of tempo shifts and rubato playing in it so it makes the drummer sound "Out" but its because its hard to do rubato and out of time on drums and make it sound good.
sometimes I regret living in this planet with all the bad things it has. but then I remember this music was created in this same planet. I'm happy again.
I was doing a cool-down 10 minute run at a track meet earlier this evening and I was listening to this song. Having previously heard it a hundred times, i waited, and waited. The moment the climax hit I felt my entire body just involuntarily move faster; my whole body tingled of intense joy. I love Pelican.
Very explosions in the sky like. Thumbs up. Better than the first two songs (Mammoth & Drought) I listened to by this band. I don't understand what's appealing about one chord being strummed for 4 minutes. ENOUGH SAID. This song made me think twice of my first opinion.
Reminds me of Agalloch or Opeth. Progressive metal I would say if I had to put a genre on it. The lack of vocalist is cool, but prehaps it would be nice to have one.
@ISISbandLive My two favorite pelican albums would be "australasia" and "the fire in our throats will beckon the thaw". "australasia" is dense and sludgey, whereas "the fire in our throats will beckon the thaw" is a bit softer and more melodic. Also, check out the March into the sea ep.
i would call the genre of pelicans music, mind music. their music makes me go to the edges of my mind, and just think about life itself. and to that, i say, thank you Pelican. thank you for creating a way for me to look inside my self.
theres so many genres because people feel the need to classify things down to a science. Every band is gonna have its own 5 word genre if it keeps up.
yea ... its basically "post-metal" ... but you might not be able to find much stuff on it ... because its a fairly new "name" for a genre ... with there being so many genres now ... its hard for them to put any "one" name stapled to thier ass cheeks ...
I'll have to check out Russian Circles and Red Sparowes. Thanks for the tip! Saw Mogwai at Trees (way back when). I also love Godspeed You Black Emperor and Bardo Pond. Give them a listen, if you haven't already. Oh, and God Is An Astronaut.
Try This Will Destroy You. Its like that but lighter and more nostalgic. Isis is awesome but with slight vocals. Neurosis is goddamn good, but thats a HARD version of post-metal. And yeah, Red Sparowes is pure awesomeness.
For more of the harder post-metal you want Cult of Luna and Callisto in my opinion. Cult of Luna - Ghost Trails for example always reminded me of Pelican.
someones gotta tell me were to find isis and aerogramme...or is it isis and aerogramme conbined..or..wtf..where do i get it?ive only gotten to hear like two songs=[
ya...actually...i figured that out within an hour after i posed that bultin..thank you though.know of any other bands i should listen to?.i like new music=]
theoceanmaster, You need to find Rosetta, The Ocean, Giant Squid, Yakuza, Neurosis, SIgur Ros, the ISis/Aerogramme cross ep is fantastic by the way. Let me think here. Oh, Kayo Dot. Cult of Luna, Russian Circles, Explosions in the SKy, Godflesh, Jesu, Red Sparowes, Cult of Luna, God is an Astronaut ... sorry, that is all I can think of right now.
i can vouch for this dude..immore into rusian circles tough..from the same area..a bit more upbeat for the most part though...red sparrowes aint bad either
fucking great shit. Pelican is definitely much more superb under the influence of psychedelics and with a few good friends. Well, actually, all of KSCIAA's vid's are great for spirtual adventure. Definitely makes for some good headspace.

Why do I get the feeling this drummer aint the greatest... when he goes into double bass, it sounds uneven, almost sloppy. Hmm...i dunno.
Regardless, this music is, as "omisortus" put it: Hypnotic. :D

I showed my friend this song. He said he listened to all 10 minutes and wasn't impressed.
I told him how bad I felt for him, because he could not experience the mind-blowing, awe-inspiring music that is Pelican.
