I don't think his accent is a regional thing but more of an ethnic historical thing. I've noticed that White Jamaicans tend to have a little more of a colonial English/Scotch accent in their speech than Black Jamaicans do. Which makes sense considering their original background even if it's hundreds of years ago, these things have a tendency to be passed on through generations.
I'm asking, not saying so, because tell you the truth, I never heard any black jamaicans with this kind of accent, but that doesn't mean anything really because I've only known certain places. I can say for sure, however, that some of the white jamaican professors i met at UWI did have this type of accent.

Your mouth will physically form according to the language you speak as a child and so it set from then until, but if a white or asian child is adopted by black jamaican parents in jamaica, his accent will be exactly like the people around him. There is no genetic difference in accent. That all develops after you are born.

He IS Jamaican. His accent is not "put on"--both rural and urban Jamaicans who are descended from 19th c. Celtic nationals speak like this. Many of my friends from my neighbourhood in Northeast Kingston both look and sound like him. It is actually a patois brogue, since it was the Irish Republicans transported by the English govt. to Jamaica whose style of English became the predominant form among the slaves across the island. I have friends who have a more harsh way of pronouncing words and the delivery of it would sound as if there arguing to someone who didn't understand thelingo. All in where you grew up my friend. I don't think his accent is a regional thing but more of an ethnic historical thing. I've noticed that White Jamaicans tend to have a little more of a colonial English/Scotch accent in their speech than Black Jamaicans do. Which makes sense considering their original background even if it's hundreds of years ago, these things have a tendency to be passed on through generations.

I'm asking, not saying so, because tell you the truth, I never heard any black jamaicans with this kind of accent, but that doesn't mean anything really because I've only known certain places. I can say for sure, however, that some of the white jamaican professors i met at UWI did have this type of accent.
