I was there. Glen Helen. Memorial Day weekend, 83. Saturday night? Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Triumph? Great show. David Lee Roth got VH banned from San Bernardino County for life because of this show. Too much Jack. Way too much Jack.
Those are some high ass melodies to sing.I know Mike is known for great harmonies but c'mon the other half is Ed keeping the low harmony there while Mile does the high ones. How come no one ever gives Ed props on these though? Theyre all over the early albums. Anyways this is the first first time I've heard this live, sounds raw but quite good. Live Van Halen, ain't nothing better out there...:)
he's tapping using a delay, I figured it out by accident , after the intro he is using arpeggios (broken chords) God bless him and you tube 'cos I couldnt believe that was how it was done; in the studio he usd a keyboard for the intro with RPS (repeat pattern sets)
I just find Eddies hypocritical comments on Sammy and Mickey " They're just singing Van Halen covers"(Eddie must be drinking again,) hysterical! Especially since he put out Diver Down(5 covers)!
And how the hell can Sammy and Mickey be singing covers to songs they ORIGINALLY recorded? Yep, Mr. It's all about me, most be drinking again!
Cover songs are so hard to do and making them your own without losing the spirit of the song. However, am I the only one who thinks VH made some awesome cover songs?
VH, in my view, not only maintained the integrity of the original song but actually improved upon it. They are a very special and unique band. I do agree w/ you.
No, you're not alone. VH did some great covers. The guitar work on this song is fantastic.
"You really got me" is one of those rare covers which is arguably better than the original. (I consider it 2nd only to Hendrix's cover of "All along the watchtower".)
Man this rocks so hard loose control from Sao Paulo 83(it's somewhere around youtube). And this Dancing in the streets from US Fest 1983.Two songs I've never expected to see live.Thankyou so much I love this tune and I think Eddie here is waaaay better than the Driver Down verion.Thankyou very very much dude.

Ed was at his best here. Saw the last 2 tours & it was so disapointing to see how sloppy his playing has become.

Cheap Trick has done probably more covers over the years than any other band! It really don`t matter as long as they can put their spin on it.....
BigTimeSchonFan 2 years ago 2
yes....every cover they did was better than the origional....even the origional artist thought so

Not at all - they definitely did. I'd say that they bettered every original version of their covers.

@Tonezone no, their covers are generally superior to the originals IMO
