Oh my god, my Mum sung this song to me when I was little. I only remember 2 parts....didnt even realise there was more to this song than what I knew. You have made a childhood memory come to life....Thankyou so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for uploading this, I heard this song on the "Old Music" channel and I really liked it, but I couldn't seem to find it anywhere in my record collection :D Thanks again!
As stated above, on this date in 1964 {Jan. 25th} 'Navy Blue' entered the Billboard's Top 100 chart, eventually it peaked at No. 6 and spent a total of 12 weeks in the Top 100. Her only other record to make the Top 100 also had a Navy theme; it was 'Kiss Me Sailor', which peaked at No.29!!!
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
this song sounds as good today as it did in 1964. for awhile that year it looked like no one but the beatles would ever get a hit agian! lol. I know this is supposed to be a sad song but it has never affected me that way. it is so lively and upbeat musically that it always puts a smile on my face right from the opening intro. the background singers really give it some sparkle and with the drums pushed forward in the mix it sounds like phil spector's" wall of sound". a catchy tune.diane did well.
I swear I was born in the wrong era. I'd rather listen to Diane Renay or Lesley Gore any day over what's on the radio now. I love the idea of going to parties and bringing my records, oh my god. I wish.
This hit by Diane Renay was the 39th #1 song on Billboard's newly formed chart that is now known as the Adult Contemporary charts. With The Beatles taking the Top 40 charts by storm, this type of music seemed to be relugated to this new chart.
Nice turntable! Great song, too. One year before I was born. If I could the time travel thing, I would want to live from 1955 to 1965 to relive the music, and the experience. If anyone wants to do this song, I can play the trombone, and triangle parts. Ha ha! Thanks for posting!
@EdRambeau This is what makes these youtube postings the best! Sometimes the song writers and artists themselves weigh in. I saw Diane Renay made a comment on one of the other posts of this song. Also, you are the Ed Rambeau who sang "Concrete and Clay," right?
@EdRambeau Ed, what did you think of Donna Lynns version? Great song, this is the first song I can clearly remember hearing on the radio as a kid....it rocked my 2 transistor radio back in the day in Cleveland, Ohio.
great timeless tune from 64. I was 11 and overwhelmed with the beatles but some other great tunes like my guy, baby love, come see about me,where did our love go,do wh diddy, baby I need your loving,my boy lollipop,I get around, dont worry baby, the way you do the things you do,dancing in the street, plus all them beatle tunes made 64 the most historic year in rock!
Her son-in-law and some friends were over a couple of weeks ago for dinner as my kids came from So CA to visit. He couldn't remember her song or what her stage name was.......................All he could remember was that she appeared on Ed Sullivan.
I was 9 years old in '64, and a destroyer came into my city's harbor for the 4th of July weekend. This song was playing on the radio, and then I knew that someday I was going to join the navy. I think from then on, my parents knew then that I would too. 9 years later I did.
i first heard this song while watching the beatles first us visit dvd and it was playing on their limousine radio as they were heading to the plaza hotel,i just had to have this song
Wow, this debuted in January, yet I still associate it with going back-to-school shopping in August for shoes at the Buster Brown store in Norwalk, CT. Well, if it wasn't still on the charts then, it was already an "oldie." Of course, stuff stayed on the charts a LONG TIME back then!
Do you happen to have any more songs that you could be able to upload from the 20th Century Fox label such as The Little Drummer Boy (the original1958 recording), Kung Fu Fighting, The Morning After, Barry White from this label, etc.
A hit song for 17 year old Renee Diane Kushner, from South Philly. "Navy Blue" came out during the heyday of Beatlemania. Her follow-up, "Kiss Me Sailor", also made Billboard's top-40. Collectable's CD reissue of Diane's "Navy Blue" lp used the mono masters.
Every once in a while I'll stumble upon a mint gem like this at a garage sale. The price is usually right too - 10 cents to quarter is what I'll typically pay!
But it's taken me years to collect these great records.
Now I get to share them with a lot of good people!
@WABCRADIO77 great! someone finially uploaded a good recording of this song. you would'nt believe it but I've waited a year and a half for someone to do it! every other song you may want is on youtube but not navy blue....till now. thanks! theirs a guy here in huntsville al. does a local radio show on public radio with over 14,000 45 rpm records he's collected since boyhood. he's in his mid50s. shows titled reeling in the years. plays only his 45s! every friday night. not just top 10s but rare.
I love listening to oldies and songs from the 60s, my generation sucks, I wish I was born in the early 50s
so I can grow up listening to these beautiful songs. Sadly I was born on 1996, but its cool you grew up listening to these songs and had a chance to upload some. Thanks
@WABCRADIO77 Thanks for sharing them. And thanks for the presentation of the record; I like to get a good look at each record before hearing it played.
