  • Try it with a confirmation chip and youll understand the value

  • And no focus confirmation chip...brilliant

  • @lsi624 FD-mount lenses are manual focus. There would be no need for a focus confirmation chip on the adapter. Thanks for watching.

  • @mrmogway with any all manual lens, you set the f-stop on the lens itself. the settings for f-stops on the camera itself will go blank, and you can no longer control it that way.

  • wanted to ask how bad the iamge is if you jog the camera with that lens. im thinking of getting one fo those mounts to expand on my lenses.

    thanks

  • @360ThickQuinking360 The adapter is tight with most FD lenses. I did have one Zeiss lens that was a little wiggly, but all the others I tried fit tightly. Thanks for watching.

  • I'm trying to understand... with the adapter mounted, which controls the f-stop settings for picture taking. In other words, if I set the camera to f22 and the lens to f1.8 what will happen, will it go with 22 or 1.8? I think I'm missing something. I look forward to our reply.

  • HEY! You live in my county! I recognize that route any day. Take it to school!

  • @XplosiveDaddy Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks for this info. I found it to be helpful. I see lots of the adapters on ebay. Yours appears to be the simple version with optical glass. There are "newer" ones on ebay that have a focus sensor that provides beeps when you are in focus for still shots. Do you have any expereince with that adapter or woudl you recomend one kind over the other? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

  • @bal22msn I'm not familiar with the adapters with focus assist - I presume either they work only with auto focus lenses or they use some kind of contrast measurement to assume something is in focus. If you get one post a video! Thanks for watching.

  • @S8OR Yes there is a trade off in light loss (sometimes) and loss of automatic functions. That's the trade off versus paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for the proper fitting lens.

  • Then you go on to say lets see what kind of pictures we will get and then show video. Total wack job!

  • @c4dfreak I was mainly focused on using the 5D for video work, not still photography, and trying to build up a low-cost kit of lenses for various situations. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • @pbohush Video is ALSO pictures!!!

  • can you say DUST! Wow all that money in a body and using Junk lenses that wont focus on to infinity. What a joke! You make too much money, to own such an awesome body and are clueless! Macro is not for widelife, Man! Migrate, lol called lens creep!

    This is a joke!

  • @c4dfreak 1. The lenses were not junk. They are older and camera manufacturers change their mounts every few years to try to make people buy new lenses. But good glass is still good if its clear and no fungus.

    2. Because the digital sensors are at a different distance from the lens mount than film cameras were, an adapter is needed not only to attach older lenses (or from other lens makers) to the DSLR but also to adjust the focus plane to hit the sensor.

  • @pbohush With the adapter the lenses focus to infinity.

    3. I said the lens had macro to focus at 4-feet at 200mm. I said the 200mm is nice for wildlife, because many photographers shoot insects and such that require close focusing; wildlife photography isn't just elephants and lions.

    4. Yes I said lens creep.

    5. I call them "cheap" lenses but that refers to the price I paid. Should have said "older" lenses. They're not cheap lenses like the plastic CCTV lenses sold on ebay.

  • @pbohush Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • You don't need a lens in the adapter you just need a longer adapter. The Canon 70-210/f4 becomes 105-315mm/f2.6 (1.5x) on DSLR, and 140-420/f2 (2x) on micro 4/3rds. Someone asked about auto metering, I dunno about the Canon but the Panasonic G2 does it in (A)perture mode. Also does 10x focus magnification which is a must if your depth of field is getting narrower. For this reason beware prime lenses without aperture ring! ;D

  • @sang3Eta Lens millimeters are rated for 35mm film size, which is equivalent in DSLRs only for the Canon 5D (and maybe the 1D or other "full frame" sensors.)

All other DSLRs have "crop factor" which means multiply the lens MM by some number. Canon 7D is 1.6x. Micro 4/3 is 2x. Sony alpha 1.5x.

Yes the focal length of the lens will change from its stated MM (focal length,) but NOT the f/stop. An f/4 lens on any camera will always be an f/4 lens.

  • @pbohush One DOES need a lens in an adapter to mount older FD lenses on Canon 5D and 1D cameras in order to get the lens to focus to infinity, due to the distance of the sensor from the back lens. Lenses are not needed to use most older lenses on other model cameras, such as the GH2.

A longer adapter ring would allow for CLOSER focus (i.e. macro) with some lens/camera combinations, but not infinity focus.

  • one fd adapter fits in al df lenses? or you need one adapter for each lens?

  • @dadvian1 You can use one adapter and change lenses as you want. Or if you don't want to keep moving the adapter you can buy an adapter for every lens. It's all up to you.

  • @pbohush Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • I have that same FD lense and a canon 60d. Which model of adapter did u buy and how is the image quality? Also the 60d is a crop body rather than ff

  • @keebaeklim Crop factor on the 60D is something like 1.5x or 1.6x, so multiply the lens MMs by that. Ex. a 100MM lens on a 60D would be equivalent to a 150mm or 160mm field of view.

I don't know the "model" of the adapters I have. Just bought the cheapest ones on ebay.

    Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • in this video at around 3:49 if you look at the speed limit sign with your peripheral vision it seems as if the sign reads "5D" like the camera lol

  • $5 each??? I just bought this on Ebay for $15 plus shipping fml -___-

  • @esconyfinest You're lucky, in my country these lenses cost U$D100 and up!

  • @surferboy36O really? well I bought mines on Ebay used. try Ebay for lens shopping.

  • @surferboy36O really? well i bought mines on Ebay, try Ebay for lens shopping

  • @esconyfinest I would, but I don't have a credit card.

  • OMG. dont expose the sensor like that! At least switch the mirror down!

  • @holkemann get over it n00b

  • how many days did it take before you received it home ?

i purchased mine two weeks ago on eBay... still waiting for it !

  • Hi,

With these adapters, if the camera do metering properly or I have to use always manuel mode?

    Thanks

  • That combo looks fantastic!

  • Hey Pbohush, did the glass in the adapter cut any light? I keep hearing you'll lose an fstop.

  • @laughingcrows I haven't noticed any loss in exposure, but I have read about it. I just set the exposure to what it needs to be.

  • Thank you for this vid! I bought a few lenses and made some great tests - awsome for Video and very cheap to buy!

  • @MacMave Thanks!

  • @pbohush What song was that at the end of the video?

  • @ThdeGreatestOne Something from my stock music library. Could be from Sonicfire but I'm not sure.

    Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • No IS.?

  • I just bought FD 50mmf/1.4 SSC and adapter with glass in it. When i set the apeture at 1.4 to 2 and take a picture, it looks foggy. But when I set the apurture at 2.8 and above, the pictures come pretty clear. Do you know what's wrong?

  • @Tony5690 I don't know, but many lenses have a "sweet spot" at a certain f-stop or range where everything looks good, and outside that things get fuzzier. You may have found yours.

  • @pbohush Not exactly.

Actually the adapterlens has a smaller diameter than the aperture of your FD lens.

The light gets cut off on a wide opened aperture and the result is a foggy picture.

If you own a f1.4 or f1.8 FD lens you may only use it on f5.6.

You could also buy an adaptuer without lens, that's basicly functioning like a makro adapter.

  • @vfxworld Yes, why is that? Are there adapters with wider lenses available? I think the problem is internal reflections between lens and adaptor, try painting it matte black or using a black foam in between.

  • @Tony5690 its your depth of field. Is to shallow, so you'll just get a real small amount in focus of the picture. Try to stay a little far from the subject if you want it in focus. Or you can set it to an f8 or f11. That's where they usually have the sweet spot. Hope this helps you out.

  • @Tony5690 If you use the adapter whit lens inside, the max aperture whil gonna be F 1.8 , 1.4 or even 1.2 wont work because the lens in the adapter prevents that because its not big enough to let more light through.

  • I am planning to get some cheap FD primes, can you please give me any links.

Now a days the adapters comes with a lens in it so infinity focusing is ok, but how the aperture works?

    Please reply thanks.

  • @palashcd I just posted my last batch of FD lenses for Canon, or even for GH1 or GH2 with other adapters. Prices start at 99 cents!

  • i;m thinking about getting an fd 50mm 1.8 for my canon rebel. do u think i need glass in the adapter for infinity focus?

  • @rodriguez3ric You will need extra class for infinity focus
