I remember when I use to come home from school everyday to enjoy all the shows on CITV, they were so good back then^^ even those I couldn't stand at the time seem good to today's shows. that was the life, I long for my past:D
the 90s was a pretty good generation to be a young pre teen or young teen kid. Alot has changed in the past 20 years. THey don't really have alot of kids cartoons these days and now everybody has digital tv which not everybody had then.
Yes. Sky was relatively new and only about 1 in every 100 homes then. It wasn't until the mid-late 90s Satellite and Cable began really luring the audiences away from Terrestrial.
The early 90s were a great time to be a Primary School aged Kid.
@Markjuk LOL. I see what you mean by that. What happened in 1989 is most of the ITV franchises had a genric (same designed) ident. The same was for Childrens ITV until it got replaced by a blue box, yellow circle and a large red C. After which IVC - Invision contanuity was dropped in favor for pre-recorded contanuity.
I still often wionder if ITV (Granada and Carlton) ever planned a 'hearts' ident of CITV although not as bad as the LSD version.
However, Challenge (a UK digital channel) showed one of the later series (the '98 one I think) earlier this year, so hopefully they'll repeat that soon or show one of the earlier series, which would be good to see now.
Hi Jaradoref, cheers for letting me know about this, I will make sure I watch it! Good old Challenge, they showed the whole 8 series of ''Knightmare'' a few years back too, it's one of my favourite Sky/Virgin channels.
Now this is the era of CITV I remember. Tommy Boyd was a legend on this, comparing well with Philip Schofield on CBBC. Look at that tabletop and shelving filled with stuff! Listen to his gentle voice! Brilliant. DVDs packed with CBBC and CITV continuity from 1984-1992 would sell so well.
Good morning to you, Hammadmossop1988. Thankyou for letting me know about the 1995 episode of ''The Riddlers'', I am looking forward to seeing it. You are a big Riddlers fan, I think you must be the person who knows about the show the best, which is good. Have a good weekend...
Hi DJ Fairborne 77 all your CITV clips are great I can see how they still work perfectly suprising enough even the 1989 and 1990 and 1991 video clips which are very old
Hi Hammadmossop1988, this video is a bit poor quality in places, as it's an 18-year old videotape, so sadly it's detiorated a bit over the years - but at least it's still watchable! Glad you've been enjoying the videos btw!...
Hi again Hammadmossop1988. All my Jerry & Scally footage has already been uploaded onto here, so check them out in my videos list. All of it was on a Scotch tape, which is 20 years old now! Their "lifetime guarantee" has lasted 20 years, so that's pretty good going by anyone's standards!...
Pat Sharp still has long hair from the 70s like a mullet on there but this is great DJ Fairborne thanks for uploading this it is the best including Fun House opening and closing titles and the bit where Pat Sharp and Tommy Boyd eats the Ice Creams these where the days also the bit where Pat Sharp puts the masking tape over Tommys mouth and where Tommy cuts Pats hair
Oh my word the old CITV This brings back child hood memories and OMG Pat Sharpe with his Mullet hehe.... I liked Fun House but they never came to my school
Wow thank you so much for uploading this DJFairbourne77 I think old 1991 Childrens ITV is great better than the ones we have now also have you got any episodes of The Riddlers or Gigglish Allsorts episodes such as the one where they sing some folks they like crossonts some like to dunk them in there coffee
Hi Hammadmossop1988, glad you've been enjoying all my CITV videos. Sadly, I don't have anymore footage left now, or any episodes of "The Riddlers" & "Allsorts" either. CITV was great back in these days, far better than what the kids of today have!...
DJFairborne I am going to leave very nice comments on all your CITV videos since I really like them all you done a very good job uploading these great clips including this old one from 1991 and also the CITV from 17/12/93 I would miss these if you took them off you tube
I think they were about equal but with better cartoons... Duck tales & Ghostbusters gave ITV an advantage. ps. I just corrected duck tales I'd written 'suck tales'..lol.
citv was/is my fav but cbbc had tmnt or tmht and thunder cats. those 2 got me switching over... fun house rule, i'm 28 but if i had the chance i would run, jump and slide around the fun house all day... lol...
No it wasn't. CITV have never been able to do better than CBBC at any point, and the whole Steve Ryde era was just dire. I didn't watch a massive amount of CITV during that time largely because I disliked the out-of-vision style.
I agree that the Steve Ryde-era of "CITV" was a load of crap, but I just don't agree that they never beat "CBBC", as I much preferred the Stonewall Productions-era to Andi Peters!
Hi Hammadmossop1988, sadly I haven't got any episodes of "Duck Tales", only the brief bits in my videos on here. I would like to see "Yuppie Ducks" too!
shirley, the times of CITV varied from year to year. in 1983 when CITV started it was running from 4-5:10. In the 1990s till early 2000s, it was running from 3:30-5:40pm.
Why don't ITV as well let an independant company run CITV? like that one did when they won the contract off Central!! I mean ITV can't be assed about Children's TV format so it's pretty pointless at it being at Granada's studio don't you think and ITV could probably start making profits out of Kids TV if they are classed as a "mainstream" broadcaster don't you think?
@MackMacProductions When Children's ITV first introduced it used to be at the ATV Centre in Broad Street, Birmingham from 1983 until 1997 when they moved to Gas Street, Birmingham in '97.
i remember when Pat sharp first cut that mullet off! Also, Tommy Boyd rocked!! he was my favourite tv presenter in the 80's - he ruled The wide awake club!!!!!
I'm opening a petition on the PM's website to both allow ITV franchise licences to be revoked and to have ITV divided into different regions once more. I'll tell you the address when the petition is approved, which usually takes about a week.
I've noticed at the start of this video it shows the old CITV logo and then after Tommy shows the black screen and then the logo changes, was this the show when they changed the CITV logo?
stewartlee, as part of their contract, Central (who produced Children's ITV) would have to show the 'generic' ident at least once per day, but they had their own ident for going into breaks etc. Hope this helps.
at this point, CITV was produced by an independent company but using Central's facilities in Birmingham. So this independent company decided to use in-vision continuity with their own CITV logo, but they were told that Central had to broadcast the CITV logo than incorporated the normal ITV logo. Central won the full contract back in 1993, they decided to dipose of in-vision continuity, have computer-generated imagery for continuity and dispose of the generic ident as described above.
Between 1991 and 1993 they used a mix. The old CITV logo was used to introduce and end CITV's afternoons whereas the newer "Citv" logo was used between programmes.
It IS a TV set, never mind looks like one. We used to have one very similar to that but it was one that had its own motor inside the stand that meant you could turn it simply by pressing buttons on the remote control.
That TV set beside him is made by a Danish company called Bang and Olufsen. How do I kno this? because those sets were RARE and we used to have one.
It was such a luxury item that it had an electric motor underneath the telly - which meant you could turn the TV round by pressing the left and right buttons on the remote - which had so many buttons on it it makes the Sky remotes look basic!!!
Aidan, I googled Bang and Olufsen, and it gave me the website for it! Try it and you might see their products they sell. Posh TV's and videos by the looks of it!
Awesome clip of CITV continuity especially seeing Duck Tales I haven't seen that in years. Do You have anymore CITV continuities featuring early editions of Art Attack?
"Don't Try This At Home" that was shown on CITV, with Frank Bruno & Eddie Kidd, was a special one-off programme that was filmed at the World Stunt Festival, Toulouse, France in 1991. The Davina McCall series of the same name didn't start until 1998 & ended in 2001, and had no connection with the Frank/Eddie show, as far as I know, but maybe that's where they got the name of it from!
