If the US and Soviet Union actually did fight, the US would won. I'm not being bias or anything but its logic facts. America has the manufacturing and manpower while the USSR was slowly crumbling. The biggest thing for the war isn't the nukes, hitting a nation with a nuclear bomb is serious and gives that nation a bad name. The USSR simply didn't have the manpower or manufacturing to keep up with the United States. The US also had more allies and the M1A2 Abrams Tank. Reply if this is wrong.

It is the continuing state of antagonism between the soviet union and her allies, and the usa and her allies, between the late 40's until the fall of the soviet union. This antagnonism led to proxy wars, and much subterfuge but never a direct war between them. Because of this lack of an actual conventional war, it was termed the cold war.

It became a 'hot war' or very close to one, as actual fighting between the antagonists, had begun, if you consider that China sent all those men into the peninsular. And China was closer than an ally, it was like a partner of the Soviet Union in those days.

Not to mention the USA had Germany, Japan, UK and France all top economic powers (and all beating the USSR economically at points in the cold war) on its side. The West pretty much had a clear majority of the world's wealth.
