pls, somebody, everybody, pls recommend me more arias as powerful and as moving as this. My soul needs it more than ever now. single tracks, playlists; whatever!
A modest suggestion for your splendid collection: "My Fatherland: The Moldau" by Smetana is an ethereally beautiful piece. Not to mention Smetana is Czech, which is also a fantastic quality :)
Oh my goodness who are you, WickedNorth!! Your channel is a delightful collection of ALL of my favorite songs- I really wish I could boast more of a heritage, but sometimes I pretend I'm half Russian.
Yes, I knew he wasn't Russian- I just have a special place for Russian music and folk tales. I appreciate your concern for the reputation of Dvorak, however :D
So beautiful. Bicentennial Man came out in 1999 when I was only 10 years old. There's a scene where he's in the basement listening to this, and since then I've been trying to find the name of this song. I thank you.
Another beautiful work by my favorite Romantic composer. Thanks for posting this amazing piece as well as Scythian Suite by my favorite 20th century composer, Prokofiev. :)
Yes, Dvořák was definitely straight. He was actually in love with one of his students, but she married someone else, and he married her sister. Fabio Ucelli, in his book "'s Farewell", says that Dvořák's cello concerto was his goodbye to America, but it may also have been his farewell to his sister-in-law, who had died just before it was written. This seems plausible, as he cited a family crisis when leaving his post as director of our National Conservatory of Music to return to Bohemia.
Yes - this is the one. I've been listeneing to many versions of this lovely aria this morning and this is it. She get's it. Veronika's control is wonderful, but her secret is in her approach, which is smooth, clear and just a bit understated. For me, "Song to the Moon" is sung at night under a partly cloudy sky. Her song begins in the shadows, as if she were tempting the moon to come out into view. The more the clouds part, more intense the line becomes. In the end they dance together.
cannot stop listening to this, so beautiful. A girl in the year above me sang this last year at our school concert, have been in love with it ever since... and yes she sang amazingly
@DrHakim1 "It's more interesting when u don't understand %)" yes that is very true as the track can now be only limited by only your imagination, with the title being the only suggestion as to where it can lead you!

@ifuliki I was replying to BalletBabyBoy (see below) Just clarifying that Dvorak was straight. Tchaikovsky was not. I also choke up when I hear Lucia Popp sing this gorgeous aria.
My point was I fail to see why the sexual orientation of this or that artist, politician,
crook is of interest to You Tube. Now, as part of the bio many aspects of a life and career including the sexual orientarion may be of interest especially if it impacts work or career. French have it right and could NOT CARE LESS if this or that celebrity has interesting extracurricular activities if he/shecan sing, paint, dance. act or govern. Unlike the Americans who ...........'nuff said, I guess
@ifuliki You've missed the point completely. Balletbabyboy was trying to say that to have such a talented composer counted as a member of our community is a point of pride.
Oh, I see. I s'pose I should be proud that VaughanWilliams was a Welshman. I
don't care although I enjoy his music along with
the music of all composers.
The gay community ought not to want to
be distinguished from the larger community for its artistic accomplishments. However, this is just one man's point of view and I do not seek to quarrel. Francis Bacon who, it is claimed, wrote or co-wrote the works attributed to the Bard of Avon was also gay. How about that?
I should explain that I am not gay but believe gay men and women fully deserve their place in the sun too. Many have contributed greatly to our culture.
@goodbyelonglive44 I don't know which instrument per say, but its created by the string section for sure. If they have the recording device in the appropriate place and they play that section a certain way (I forgot the term, but I know it involves a strong depression of the strings and quick bow movement) you'll get a certain sound. Combine one instrument with...what...15? Thus, you get that sound. Well, at least that's what I think: I'm not really an expert on these things.
@aznminr123 Who gives a flying shit if Dvorak was a homosexual or not?!?!? His music is brilliant! At its best it deserves a place at the top with the other masters (Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, etc.). Enjoy the music
its not in timing with the music

What album/collection are these recordings from? I can't seem to find this particular version and in my opinion it's the best.

this version is sung by Lucia Popp and it's on "The Best Opera Album In The World ... Ever" which was released in 1996 by Virgin Records
