@broaddusmarines MJ didn't even need to wait for Bird retired, after the Bulls became a better team, Celtics and Bulls never matched up again in playoffs and Celtics became weaker later year.
@jimmychuang Bird was dealing with severe injuries to his back and achilles from 89-92, anyone else would have retired. Even on a broken back and no depth on the Boston bench, Bird still managed to get some wins against MJ those years.
I have seen Bird block Jordan a number of times and it is always from behind. That is Bird in a nut shell. He would probably have a hard time blocking Jordan face to face because of Jordan's superior leaping ability but because Bird was smarter than everyone including Jordan......he could get away with blocking Jordan's shots and stealing the ball from Jordan and ultimately winning most of the games he ever played against Jordan in his career.
I still think the way Jordan plays is smooth, Bird and Magic look uncoordinated when they play, they were amazing but it didn't look smooth haha. Still all amazing players though
@guidi2005 Shooting % has nothing to do with a jack shooter, MJ attempted 23 shots per game his entire career, #2 all time in jacking up shots, proving that MJ jacked up shots, I rest my case
@MerkinMuffly If someone on your team is shooting 50% do you know what you say to them? KEEP SHOOTING!!!!!!. The definition of a shot jacker is someone who shoots a lot and misses a lot. Someone who makes a lot, like Bird, Mullin and Jordan is called a shooter. Very basic knowledge here, like 5 year old stuff and the only case you rested is how ignorant you are.
@599013 Celtic strategy was to let MJ jack up shots, not let him get teammates involved, clamp down on him in the final minutes, his teammates were out of rhythm since they had been watching MJ jack up shots all game and would miss, so Boston wins which is why Bird was 23-11 vs MJ lifetime including 2 sweeps in the playoffs. Bird = Greatest Team Player Ever, MJ = Greatest Inividual Player ever. Too bad for MJ basketball is a team sport, not one on one. Lucky for MJ pippen came along
@MerkinMuffly Bird wasn't the greatest team player he just had the best team. Seriously he had the best team ever with the best coach ever. MJ is the GOAT no arguing.
@animebrawler Bird made the team, not the other way around, without Bird, Parish, McHale and DJ would not be in the hall of fame. Just like when BIrd took a no-name ISU team undefeated to the NCAA finals, BIrd made the team, just like he took 2nd worst celtics to 1st in 1980 without McHale, Parish, dj, ainge or walton. He is the greatest team player ever.
@MerkinMuffly Im not saying the team made bird. Bird was a great team player but he always had a bunch of help. Plus having red as a coach is a HUGE role.
No one can ever determine something like that. Its all opinions. and ect.
@animebrawler You're thinking of the '86 celts only. And magic's teams pound for pound were way better every year except for 2 of them. No $ cap means owner Buss in LA got to throw millions at the lakers. Thats part of the reason magic had so many assists---its not an assist unless someone makes the bucket. MJ was great, but so was magic, bird, and dr. j. Dr. j would've been interesting to see in his prime in the NBA. K.C. Jones was not the best coach ever by a long shot either.
@usnate1 I know too much of basketball for my own good. I know all those stats of Bird n Magic vs MJ and whatever. MJ was the GOAT. The same argument can be made for Magic and Bird being the Goat too. I just see MJ as having the best argument.
@animebrawler Defense only and not by much. Jordan shot 8 FT a game as opposed to larry's 4 a game. The legendary gimme call MJ got were terrible. Not his fault, however it can't be ignored considering hes got larry by 6PPG career average. FG% bird 49% and MJ 50%. Bird FT% 84, MJ FT% 83. Bird stats in all catergories are higher and his success was in a tougher era, so it could REALLY be up in the air. Magic was impressive, but he didn't have the complete offe game that LB and MJ did.
@animebrawler The first part of your argument has nothing to do with LB vs. MJ. Secondly 8FT's a game is 3,100 point opportunities career for MJ so it does make a difference seeing as how LB in his day was THE most dangerous scoring threat as much as MJ was in his prime. Rule changes is the only explanation and gimme calls. Bird averaged 2 steals and 3 blocks in his playoff career. Not many people pay attention to that. Rings have to do with teams, era, and competition not individuals.
Bird in all other categories still had mj. Assists, rebounds, FT%,3pt% by mile, and diving for loose balls, which has very little to do with skill and more to do with sacrifice. Ehy can't anyone concede to that. And Bird and magic didn't have the publicity afforded to them in their era as MJ did. Endorsements for b-ball stars were shoes. Later it became sports apparrel, drinks, cereal, and underwear, movies. Suggestive marketing convinces people in the extreme.
@animebrawler Mj was great, but as to HOW MUCH greater if at all greater than LB, Magic and list of others is questionable....that I'm saying. "What the mass media offers is not popular art, but entertainment which is intended to be consumed like food, forgotten, and replaced by a new dish." - W. H. Auden
@animebrawler Is that why they went from 29 wins to 59 wins the first season he played. Magic's lakers before him went from 40 wins to 52 wins. MJ took 7years for him to do that. And when LB retired the celts went -15, when magic left lakers -15, when MJ left -2. Still think MJ has the most impact?
@usnate1 MJ came a bulls team with like 1 other good player and he was one dimensional as Orlando Wolldridge was just a good scorer on a bad team while being a bad rebounder. Bird and Magic both came into teams READY for them. Magic basically planed being a Laker as did Bird. Them playing is a tougher era is debatable. The rules were looser and not as much enforced but 90'S bball was too.
@animebrawler Magic came in on a pretty good laker team, but Bird came in on the 2nd worst team in the NBA, they had nothing, no Parish, no McHale, no DJ and Bird took them to 1st place in the rankings, 61 wins, just like he took a no-name ISU team undefeated to the 79 finals. The 90s were a weak watered down league that had no competition. The Bulls of the 90s are the only team from that era ranked as top 10 ever, 3 teams of the 80s our in the top 10 teams ever, the 80s were much tougher.
@usnate1When Bird and Magic left their teams were old and began to rebuild. Bulls did not expect MJ to retire and for that didn't plan for it. Pippen and Horace Grant had to step up their games in that time. MJ MADE them better though. If you asked them they'd tell you that. MJ's intensity rubbed off on them.
@599013 or the 28 shots larry made that game on their way to eliminating the bulls from the playoffs. Jordan's 63 points was another loss for the bulls. next game larry scored 34pts, 11 rebounds, 9 assists 3 blks and 1 steal and shot for 55%. Jordan 5 pts, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists with 2 steals he shot 34% . At that time MJ wasn't that good. He learned how to win from magic and larry...
if mj shoots 50%, it would make sense for him to take the most shots. especially good shots.

Bird drank MJs milkshakes quite a bit. MJ admitted that he couldn't wait for Bird to retire.

My guess is you'll bring up pippen. Don't be stupid now michael was as great a player as there has been. Bird is right up there too obviously.

And no man on earth has ever shot the 3 ball like larry. Reggie miller shot 1,000 more 3pt's than LB and larry has 40% to reggie's 38%.

@usnate1 8 FT a game is pretty little considering todays game has guys averaging 8 a game and only like 5th in league in attempts per game.
MJ had more PPG, SPG, BPG, and more rings. Im sorry but MJ is just obviously better than Bird. Better scorer? MJ, Defender? MJ.
