i don't think you can pin down quote unquote "grunge" to a single person or band really. nor should it be used as a label.

alot was going on in the early 80's bands like love battery, the melvins, seaweed, the u-men, sonic youth, it was more a lifestyle than a scene, people didnt have the money to look fancy. it was just like punk before it, started out of boredom and agression and love for music.

than slowly pushed to the forefront when people realised how good that music actually was.
