That's a really good question. When I saw Polar Express they certainly did have a living dead look to them. That has improved with Beowulf (great film),also Xmas Carol.I see CGI and motion capture as a necessary evil.I've been a long time fan of comics and of course all things fantasy. That technology has allowed it to be possible.I admire guys like Peter Jackson and Guillemo Del Toro. They come from the old skool ways. But they know that the modern methods enhance the physical elements.
Out of all of the titles you mentioned.I've only seen Heavy Metal and Princess Mononoke.Mononoke is a personal favourite.I've seen a majority of the Ghibli films.I intend to see them all. Some of the titles you mentioned ring a bell.I do live in Australia and even though it's improved as to what's available. There's still a void.Thankfully there's file sharing, Youtube and good old Amazon. Also the specialty shop that's over priced.
And do you think this rotoscoping is better than what Zemeckis used in Polar Express without going into uncanny valley? you glad there's no dead eyes here?
Hey don't be hating on skinny girls too much. I am just skinny naturally but I'd kill to have hips like this woman's... not all of us are blessed you know
It does when you think about it. Motion capture is a modern form of rotoscoping, it makes sense. I believe rotoscoping was used in the He-man series from the 80's. One thing I'm not sure of is if Fire and Ice came first and He-man came later.
I know that both are heavily inspired by Frank Frazetta's work. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that Frank worked on Fire and Ice.
Also Teegra, Teela obvious similiarites. Fire and Ice is adult fantasy the other not.
The early 80s had such cool fantasy animated epics like this, The Secret of NIMH, The Last Unicorn, Flight of Dragons, Heavy Metal, The Black Cauldron, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (aka Warriors of the Wind) etc. If you enjoyed this one, i recommend Princess Mononoke which is another good adult animated fantasy epic, seen that one?
So, we have a beautiful animated princess who, despite being royalty and having everything she could ever possibly want, is unsatisfied with her life and wishes for something more......
Very sexy toon! she's up in my books with Taarna from Heavy Metal, Cheetara from Thundercats, Lady Amalthea from The Last Unicorn, Adora from She-Ra, Teela from He-Man, Sailor Mars, Jasmine, Minerva Mink and Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo on my top animated babes list.
Now THATS what I call hips. Thats how a beautiful womans body should be. Forget all this ugly supermodel, super thin bullshit. If I want a bag of bones I'll get some from the butchers.
@TRKoneAD2= Kim Kardashian is a harpy compared to Princess Teegra. I know one woman who would have made a beautiful live action Princess teegra. The only problem is, she's too old now.
Ass for days, I love it! It would be hard to find a white girl with an ass big ennough to play Teegra, especially in hollywood. Just bought the movie. Great action. Larn is the leading man but Dark Wolf is the leading ass kicker. I wish Frazzetta could do another project like this.
Best and worst part of the film was her character. Sadly she has no naked scenes. On a side note my ex have bigger features than she does and wow....physically speaking she was heavenly to touch and cuddle with. =)
I feel like there should be a fuck of a lot more movies like this with gratuitous almost-pornographic images that have an awesome plot too. I would go to movies way more often if this was the case. I hate prudes.
I meant that Frazetta's girls use to have sensual curves like a renaissance Venus... I dont have anything against Megan Fox but girls of Frazetta are more beautiful... :D
Yes they did use actresses in the studio to make the animation. They had thousands of girls come in, and they had to pick the perfect one. The action movements (fighting primarily), were first recorded using actors, then Frazetta drew it.
Amazing movie, extremely well drawn and Frazetta is a monster talent and a natural... (Im also extremely jealous..)
no, no, the rotoscoping is what makes it great. drawings with natural movement. thats part of what makes it great. as a bonus, its been reported that the artist himself, frank frazetta (a great athlete) modeled many of the movements himself when when the male actors couldnt quite get it ( see dark wolf ).
This never got the attention it deserved... at least not that I ever noticed. I'd love to see how this was made. It's almost like they traced the whole thing from live footage. :( You'd think they'd have better funding and technology to make better animations than they do today. Ironic. Things got crappier as time went by. And nowadays when something has to make a 180-360° turn, computers do all the work making it way to perfect and smooth.
@Xsuprio actually, they did trace it. its a process called rotoscoping, an animation technique that Ralph Bakshi (who was a a key figure in the creation of this film) is considered to be the master of. live actors provided footage, and they were drawn over completely to create unique characters, its a fascinating process really
@Xsuprio yeah like that dude said, it was rotoscoped. which was kinda weak cus supposedly the dudes were dressed up in costumes as well. but as for funding the dude was a underground animator, working in a basement was how he did his thing. theres real good animations out there today with styles never been seen before, check out tekkonkinkreet for good animation, and metropia for wild computer animation thats never been done before, shits out there just hard to find
You can get it if you're willing to pay the money. Is it just me or are other people tired of good movies costing too much to purchase? I mean in my opinion that sounds an awful lot like Nazis looting Paris for paintings during WW2. Where's the integration if the consumers cannot afford what the producers hope to make a buck from? Someone is playing monkey in the middle emo shenanigans and that's what leads corporations like Time-Warner to drop AOL. People who donno what I mean NEED 2 WATCH TV!
Not all is long gone, i mean we still have some handdrawn animation thanks to Princess and The Frog and Studio Ghibli movies from Hayao Miyazaki being successful. We even have Clay Animation and Stop Motion animation.
Is what I'm sayin'! When I was a kid in elementary school they had ALL this kinda crap! Then all of a sudden the cold war ended and it became a virtual Leave It To Beaver all the fuck over again!
It means that all the puritans' buddies from overseas have come over in the veil of being pro-american to try and take us over from the inside. We've become a chickenshit nation because all the people who are supposed to represent as parents today lost face to youngsters the age of Anakin Skywalker in Episode I. You've seen Home Alone. Mac and Bart Simpson also had cameo appearances in Michael Jackson's Black and White video. Russia is more than Blue Boheme or Red Bolshevik. B+W = Cossack. Tyvm!
