@basketcase5295 He prolly played I Will Follow you Into the Dark. Which is Capo 5. It's played as if it was in the key of D, but Capo 5, so it's still in G. Chords are D (usually without the F# (2nd fret) on the high E string, then G, then Em, then G, then D. The bridge between verses is on a D, and he hammers on 0-2 on the A string.
not that i want him to leave death cab but his solo stuff is great and definitely deserves to be heard... there's nothing wrong with a solo album and a band is there?
Ditto with the solo album comment. I love him so much, he's done a bunch of covers which were all so amazing and Chris Walla made a solo album. It'd prolly make my year, if not more. :)
Mhm, I know of it, but it'd be SO nice if he came out with one. I'm seeing Death Cab in July and this video just made me that much more excited. Ben Gibbard is my hero.
While I can't quite tell what he's playing, up until the new Death Cab album Ben has said that he had a collection of guitars and the most expensive was probably around $200 or so. It's probably not tough to find a guitar like his for cheap, since the one he's playing probably isn't expensive at all.
haha no definitely not 200 dollars Ben Gibbard plays a Gibson J45 sunburst or black depending and both are 6-7 thousand dollar full body guitars with custom electronics installed.
The song is from the Home series. Home Volume V. They usually choose different people/bands to make a few songs together based on the idea of home. Ben Gibbard and Andrew Kenny were on Home Volume V. It's a pretty awesome album. Great song.

he has a solo album.
well not technically solo, since it's not completely his, he splits it with andrew kenny.
but still home volume 5 is pretty cool.
i wish he would make a completely solo album, like Chris Walla.
