John Shanks is a complete doofus-hack producer, who doesnt know how to make music (that isn't completely about saying YES...OH GOD YES to the label all the time). He's also incrrect w/ his 'Dancin in the Dark" etc references. Neither start w/kick and snare per se. A much better reference is "Dont worry baby" by the Beach Boys OR "Be my baby" by the Ronnettes/Phil Spector. But alas, John Shanks wouldnt know that-cuz these are tunes by two guys who CAN produce-Brian Wilson and Spector.
Of course you're going to bitch and "whine", when someone who doesn't even produce your kind of music, or the music in the direction you WANT to go, says your music is shitty. I agree to a certain extent that *maybe* they spent TOO much time complaining about this douche, but in the end, they were actually entitled because making a record is a lot of fucking work. Please think before you make yourself look stupid, you know who you are!
Yeah, cause I mean of all the songs out there we all know SOMEONE's probably done it, but ITS RARE. It's not so generic... that's how I took what he was 'trying' to say.
Fenster pissed me off so much over this.. These boys worked so hard for this and all he would ever say was 'No, This is crap' Dude... I always ask for someone elses opinion be for going wiht some one or scraping something.
Kufan2206, I agree with you about Shanks being a better producer for Keith Urban. But it's like Taylor said at the beginning of this video: It could or could not work.
Why not act like adults and ask what Jeff did like, pin him down to what was working in his opionion and what was not? They just start flipping off the phone and whining. Yes, be upset to get conflicting messages and to get criticism, but at the same time Hanson would have done much better to respond with a degree or humility and professionalism.
I think the answer for them all along was to produce themselves because they are a very unique & non-mainstreamists. Their song content is all positive or has deep meaning & that is what they poured into the 80 songs that they had written at that point. I am glad they figured it out bcause they definitely had a path they were supposed to take. They helped people in Africa & became more devout christians & that is who they are.
yeah, they did, & isn't it funny that they went back to their roots, because that is where they belong, being true to their music & who they are. I don't love everything they do, but most of it & I respect them!
They did ask him & he said he didn't know & kept conflicting himself. What the bigger issue was that the record company didn't have the money to take a risk on them, the business crumbled, like many others in the world....
WHINNING!!!!??? ITS THEIR FUCKING MUSIC!!! Most would have smashed the Phone!!! Are WE watching the same Vid? they were SOOO DAMN patient and professional! Are YOU in the Industry? are YOU in a Band?and what kind of Music do you play? Most bands would have Flipped off Festner in the face. Hanson isnt my thing but they have a clear vision and Talent to do what they want and where they want to go, and as you can see, your comment got a -5.You sound like the perfect AOR guy for the times we live in.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
A negative five by Hanson fans. And your response here is just about as civilized and mature as they come--calm down. In my opinion, they do not take criticism well and could have handled this in a way that would have made those they were dealing with realize they were being irrational. That's all I'm saying.
man...tay is trying so hard to appease the big whigs and ike is like "NO DUDE! this is what we are doing!" go ike! standing up for them! i think it's funny how afraid tay was about going solo. he is definitely a peace maker.
John Shanks annoyed the hell out of me! Sounds as if he has no idea what he is talking about .What kind of producer is he cant give a straight answer! totally agree with hanson , i feel their frustration!
I can't believe all these record companies' guys / producers made hanson go through this hell when all WE can say as their FANS (the people who love and support them and buy their music) is that every song we've heard -weather on or off records- we've absolutely loved, for everything about them is great.. from the music to the amazing voices to the lyrics.. So i'm really glad they created their own company and got rid of all those annoying guys that they're better off without anyway.. <3 Hanson!
You're right if we like hanson is because we love what they do, not what they tell them to do. At the end thos "annoying guys" won't buy their records, music dosn't have to be commercial to trassend trough time, Hanson music is timeless and we'll hear it always
If they dare to say Underneath (one of the best songs ever) wasn't enough, is because they don't even have a little bit of ear music, if that's how is said. Being a musician and being an executive are two diferent thngs. UNDERNEATH IS A CLASSIC!
Why does Tay always mention Britney Spears? Is that how she sucks? haha...joke!

When he said "Dancing In The Dark" by Bruce Springsteen I wanted to throw something at him. This guy was completely missing the point.

I don't think it's so much that they don't like her...it's that her music isn't the type of music they are wanting to produce.
