  • sweet.

  • wow scofield is definatly off his fucking rocker for damb sure.

  • the aunt is drunk!! haha

  • its like the scofield show on this wish i could here some medeski... but fuck these guys are so good together. wish it was always with scofield.

  • sco and mmw are perfect together.. they each do their own thing well, but when they get together its like hand in glove. sco is out of his mind in this clip.. wow..

  • how is the song s name?

  • hottentot

  • medeski s'king

  • Sco genius

  • Personally, i think his best album to date is "up all night". He also played great guitar in the '70s with billy cobham, of which jeff beck does an amazing version of my favourite song "stratus".

  • i still can't decide between "hand jive" and "überjam"

  • That was Tommy Bolin!

  • I'd agree with Up All Night

  • The note choice and phrasing. Is PERFECT

  • wooh i can listen to that all day. although a go-go was so good no one listened to songs like drop and roll on bump ( i really recommend u buy it on itunes or lime wire)

  • if your into that side of sco's playing they you should check out uberjam aswell

  • THIS IS FUCKIN' METAL YEAH.

  • i love how he uses those loops and reverses in his solos!

  • he is the god of jazz guitar this song is really fun to play

  • I love these guys but sometimes it turns into noise.Ease up off of that cymbal man.

  • this stuff came from a Much Noisier beginnings in the 70s. it's true, jazz has some really noisy ancestors. phish and panic this aint.

  • Nice! I love his phrasing.... Very groovy and inspiring.

  • He does it both...

  • thanks for this. Groove rules, guitar wails, i'm happy. Long live to utube & internet

  • wow, thanx so much, absolutely mind-blowing,one of my favourite Scofield songs, though I preffer the original LP line-ip,cleaner,much more restrained, but the fact that it's live and that Scofield seems to be on fire is fantastic.

  • Crushing....

    Thanks..

  • Part of his style that is just incredible is the semi-tone bending he does. The way artists approach bending notes IS a significant part of how they 'sing' to us, his use of that type of bending is unique and fun to listen to FO SHO! ;-)

  • Groove !! Just Groove !! rock my head

  • you know scofield is hitting that after the show

  • he use the loop pedal like a god, keep uploadin' scofield's videos. Thanks.

  • This is CRAZY! And unbelievebly GREAT!

  • Scofield is just on fire here. I just love him with MMW. I saw him with Bill Stewart and Steve Swallow last year and he played as well as I've ever heard him. Total command, funky, nuanced, sweet, snappy. Steve Swallow was magnificent. He didn't work his boomerang like he does here though. I just love how he uses that thing. He just keeps getting funkier and better in every way as he get older.

  • Amazing! He's a legend!

  • sco on acid

  • is a very good thing

  • Jazzslut LMAO :]

  • LOL, I never knew a jazz slut existed till now, that girl is pretty funny! Sco is teh_man as always ;)

  • fucking sco!... everytime i watch him he´s coming with more. and MMW are just a great cookin´background! tks for posting!

  • Is that girl on tour too? haha

  • That was fucking unbelievable! Scofield is a mad scientist.

  • THAT'S AMAZING! oh my gosh...

  • jusbaker, couldn't have said it any better myself

  • Yeah, he's using the Line 6 loop station/delay/reverse (the green one),and of course whammy too,i wish i could afford that stuff just to try to make these sounds...they're crazy...Scofield is the man..

  • He actually uses the Boomerang Phrase Sampler more than the DL4. He didnt use the DL4 when he came to Seattle and the DL4 doesnt have the capability heard here. John uses the little slide wheel thing. And I dont hear the Whammy used at all in this vid. Just his ProCo and his Ibanez chorus. :)

  • Yeah, thinkin' about it you're definitely right..

  • Are you sure you don't hear bending that is done via electronics? Check it out again when he has the sampler/looper going and listen for the pitch bending (without use of his hands)... Maybe I'm still wrong... ;-)

  • he uses a whammy pedal often

  • whammy and a boomerang looper. that's how he does pitch coolness and backwards soloing, sometimes at the same time.

  • scofield is on fire!!

  • This is fucking stupidly awesome.

  • OH MY GOD!!What's he doing in the solo? He's awesome!

  • I think it's a combo of looping and reverse (or whammy) pedals, but I'm not sure. I love it when he does that too.

  • Amen Trouble Pants! The only difference for me is that I have never been able to get enough of Hottentot- 1) because of the groove 2)because, as mentioned, Sco keeps it so crispy fresh.

This playing can actually make me cry.

No wonder there's so many posts. Keep 'em coming!

  • It's funny, I always see people posting vids of "Hottentot"----seems like one of the only tunes that gets up, and I'm usually like: "Alright, ANOTHER version of this one, huh?". Then I watch the video, and am totally blown away by how fresh it sounds, EACH time! Keep groovin', SCO!

  • Nobody rips like these guys. Scofield is a lethal weapon!

  • thank you so much for this video. I have to admit that it made me cry. Although being a big jazz and guitar fan (including various styles) I´ve never heard a guitar player with such a groovy phrasing and such an incredible and strong GRADATION. his phrases are both - groovy and melodious. and what is important - his style is so unique you can recognize him after hearing few tones...I didn´t know whether to cry or laugh...Ynvie, you stupid fat man, get lost...
