i have a acer aspire: centrino duo 1.66 ghz, 512 ram, intel graphics media acel 950.. Im using Windows vista home basic and it runs well, not so fast as i want. Is Ubuntu faster than vista home basic? Does it has better features than vista?
I have laptop +/- like you(but you have slow graphic). In dualboot on my laptop, Ubuntu 7.04 works faster (more faster) than win XP, Vista will be more slower, i think. Features are great, but i´m not able to compare with Vista, because i dont have it. But i recommend to you try Live CD of ubuntu - it work from CD and without installation...(but speed is decreased because of loading of CD)
i have a sempron +2800 (1.6ghz) 512mb ddr ram,and radeon x700 256mb ddr2..but when i tried to record my desktop using gtk it lags so much that i cant move a damn thing on my desktop..i have beryl and compiz fusion both intsalled on my machine..any suggestions on recording my desktop?
you can install beryl though the add/remove under applications, but if you install your video drivers and beryl don't work go check out ubuntuguide[dot]org on manually setting up your nvidia driver or just run it with the open source drivers that came with Ubuntu

1) I use two songs from CD "Lovers lounge" called "Desert wind" and "Serpentine". I like this music :).
2)Yes, I mean that Ubuntu and Beryl will running fast on your computer. I tested also on my old Celeron 1,7 GHz, 512 MB RAM, Radeon 9100 64 MB, and it works, but with running screen recorder (it use 50 % of CPU), it works too slow - the result is on my older youtube video. Beryl don't slow down a CPU, it is powered by graphic card - and your is good for Beryl
Thanks man but i ordered the ubuntu 7.04 cd, and sould come any day now, after i install it (on forum it said that is easy to install) i need to download from somewere Beryl ? after i dl Beryl is it hart to configure ? ... i realy want to learn more ... if u have the time pls post me the answers (and tips)
I recommend to you some ubuntu forum - try search in " ubuntuforums dot org ". It´s easy to install beryl, if you have the good step-by-step guide - it´s too long to write it here, but try search "beryl install ubuntu" on google. Installation of Ubuntu is easy, but you must know something about partitions on your hdd,and how you must install ubuntu in dualboot with windows (try search "ubuntu dualboot windows" on google).
