@cbrock323 it is obviously an exothermic reaction, the reaction wouldn't be possible if it wasn't exothermic... and "any heat will trigger a rapid release of energy" ??? .. sorry but not true... to set off the chemical reaction you need a catalyst (which in this case is the sodium trihydrate) .. the rapidly moving/solidifying chemicals cause the massive release of energy (the "ice" actually gets really hot.. you'll burn your finger if you let it solidify on it.. notice he was putting in n out)
@maximemf realy! last night i get a bottle out from the refrigerator and when i try to drint it (when it touch my lips) it was so cold i let it down and it FILL BROM TOP TO BOTTOM with ice! No truly hard but it was ice!!!!! WOW
It can be done another way. Distilled water in a very clean glass vessel won't freeze at 0. Ice needs particulates to grow on. Without that apparently it will remain liquid even down to -20! So get a beaker of that stuff, drop an ordinary ice cube into it and the ice crystals will grow and fill the container in a second.
It was proven on mythbusters if you put a liquid into the freezer for just the right amount of time and move the molcules fast enough to turns to ice.
that is obviously sodium trihydrate, it is a chemical that does that if u melt it then cool it off - then dip some solid sodium trihydrate (which he had on his finger) into the water and it will turn back into sodium trihydrate
Because it's liquid doesn't mean it's water... He took the glass out of the fridge, so he probably put some chemical in before he started recorded, considering we didn't see him fill it with water. But it's still cool
@llamainacar13 You told me im dumb? Learn somethink about it and then say somethink stupid like this. If you wash your hands verry good with soap, reaction by tuching it will not happen.
Could this work with Calcium Acetate? I know that Sodium Acetate is made by reacting Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) with Acetic acid (vinegar) This is then heated to evaporate some of the water to make it more concentrated and then it is put into the fridge to chill. But I dont have any baking soda so could I used indigestion tablets instead (Calcium Carbonate) ?
@bubus109 Dumb*ss. Sodium ACETATE (learn to spell) is also safe to consume; however, if it is supersaturated and brought below its freezing point, it freezes upon contact with a crystallized particle of sodium acetate. You can do this with water, but it has to be a supercooled liquid.
If this is water, it is supercooled. If this is hot ice, it's super cooled. Either way, the same idea. And whoever said someone would die from consuming NaCl, please, please, please, please take Chemistry 1. NaCl (Sodium Chloride) is table salt. You were possibly thinking of HCl, or hydrochloric acid.
If it is NaC2H3O2, or Sodium Acetate (spelled as such and with no "i" - "acEtate" not "acItate"), or water, kudos on the experiment. Either one is fairly annoying to successfully complete.
it works with beer too :P bet ur friends in a beer drinking contest, half freeze thier beer, and when you get ready to drink hit the top of their bottle and thier beer will freeze solid lol
god damn you people are stupid AS FUCK. the water is pure H2O and its supercooled. just because some idiot puts up a video on how to make hot ice doesn't mean anything freezing before your eyes is sodium acetate. and learn how to fucking spell

@Avarthas To make super cooled water in a cup you would need a sterile cup (with no sharp corners) , sterile water and nothing, including dust could fall into the water. To top it off, like you said he pulled it out of the fridge. Water doesn't freeze in a normally functioning refrigerator. It must be in the, wait for it, freezer to freeze! Now stfu
@Avarthas Really? Do you actually speak english? "But most likely its supercooled water since it came out of the fridge..." It's supercooled water because it came from the fridge? sodium acetate (CH3COONa) *heated with* water (H2O) mixed with it at a 5:3 or 3:1 ratio = sodium acetate trihydrate *C2H3NaO2*3(H2O)*
which is sodium acetate with more hydrogen molecules
