The wedding scene was hilarious. The look on David's face after the marriage - as if he had just overcome an obstacle. I do feel sorry for Mariel's mum - the poor woman was continually isolated from everyone. I do feel for Rhonda - she felt abandoned by someone who was supposed to be her best mate. However Mariel has her own life and if she was being a bit selfish - Rhonda was being a tad selfish too.

the mother represents the "what if" part of Muriel's life - what would happen to Murial if she stayed in her room listening to Abba tapes. It makes sense, therefore that physically and symbolically she's not in attendance at the wedding.

I really HATE that floor-walker at 6:35. She must have a personal bone to pick with the Heslops. At the film's beginning, she had Muriel arrested at the wedding instead of nabbing her at the store. Then she nails Mrs Heslop for stealing a pair of cheap shoes. I have known women such as her. They never did anything useful with their lives, except maybe marry someone who could support them, and are now working at a job like this to try and prove themselves.

The part with the mom at the wedding made me cry like crazy AND when the husband told here that he wanted a divorce! That poor woman, she didn't deserve any of this! My mother just passed away recently and I will never be able to see her again or talk to her or have her at my wedding and Muriel has a mother and doesn't appreciate at all! And don't even get me started on that sham of a funeral either! I don't think I can ever watch this movie again because of what they did to the mother :( :(

The treatment of the mum in this film breaks my heart every time I see it, she travelled all that way to see her daughter's big day only to be invisible. I dont blame Muriel though, she was caught up in her own fantasy and just didn't realise. Love this film.

Poor Bryce... I also feel sorry for Muriel's mum - the way she was ignored at the Church - so sad.. There was a moment where Muriel had become a little selfish but im glad she changed back towards the end.

muriels mother is beautiful in every way. she tried so hard to stand it all to the end. i don't blame her at all - i blame all the others. i can't stand the abuse in this film, i never could - not even when i was a child and saw this movie for the first time. the cruelty and selfishness disgusts me. it killed her mother, and nobody fucking cared. disgusting.
