  • This is not King Crimson but a King Crimson ProjeKct...

  • The "wind player" is one of the original players on the first albums. Mel Collins. Try Cadence and Cascade for a very nice flute solo.

  • Excelente!

  • Tony Levin IS Heisenberg

  • Gavin Harrison is a genius on drums

  • I think it's a brilliant addition to the King Crimson/ProjeKct canon. Fripp himself admits it's not precisely Kc, but it definitely has the right ingredients, and it's a very fresh direction. Easily the most listenable ProjeKct album of the series. Very enjoyable, and a worthy entry point for new listeners to get their feet wet in Crimson music. The Other Man alone is perfectly acceptable Kc music, to my ears.

  • sorry.. dude.. but da fripp is to good for this sound.. don't like it.. the singer is good.. who's he?

don't like the winds guy.. makes too conventional..

  • @the9thplague1 singer & 'conventional' guitarist is Jakko Jakszyk - Mike Giles son-in-law.

winds by Mel Collins - recognize that name?

  • @micheljch yes, i remember him from crimson.. just don't like the sound here..

i have to say that the crimson epoch with winds - not my favorite.. larks tongues on up.. is my cup of tea..

  • So did KC EVER make an actual "Official Video"?

  • @spam549 Yes... There's one for Sleepless on youtube. Just search for it...

  • @grantco1313 Thank you so much: one of my favorite songs from them!

  • i love this album. i never been a king crimson big fan, but i love this. i know it's a king crimson projekt

  • We can now add Jakko Jakszyk to the list of "Current and Former members of King Crimson"...

  • Brilliantly Spectacular...

  • Another masterpiece!

  • This is interesting ... but where is David Sylvian ? sure sounds a lot like a Fripp/Sylvian project ! It is King Crimson ,isn't it ?!

  • @ksjoyjespeace No, it's Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins

  • king crimson sound to infinity they alaways are out of all times in perfect time

  • it sounds like he is getting old or something, sounds like over-distillated ideas

  • Well Mr Fripp must be getting on a bit (as is Mel), so I'd say, leave him to mellow a bit; it can't all be Larks Tongues in Aspic Parts 1 to infinity.

  • j'arrive pas à m'y faire, vraiment!

  • I like this song, but the entire album sounds like this.

  • Where can I find the lyrics?

  • God Damn it.

  • This is NOT King Crimson. I repeat... NOT King Crimson. This record was also not released as a King Crimson album, but a King Crimson related project. Very, very different.

  • @bloggulator it has some of king crimson's band members, right?

  • @13buthead All of the musicians on this album were/are official members of King Crimson except Jakko Jakszyk.

  • It is, in my opinion, far better to what KK did in the last decade. It used to be so amorphous, now I can see the form.

  • I love Gavin Harrison, but this sucks

  • i hope this will be the new line-up

  • Love this.

  • which album is it?

  • @ueeemonna A scarcity of miracles... A King Crimson ProjeKct

  • Comment removed

  • there is no consensus about what is good or bad, or what is the sound of King Crimson and what is not ....

    this is perfect.

and this is how it should be, groupies, suicide yourself, that is, what it is.

  • Comment removed

  • This is non-temporal music.

  • This is NOT King Crimson.... close, but not quite.

  • @bloggulator Not suppose to be! It's suppose to be Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins. If it was suppose to be King Crimson, they would've stuck to something original, but this is what King Crimson does: it expands their range of Genre with Progressive Elements!

  • @bloggulator Robert Fripp IS King Crimson

  • @pootsilu certainly

  • @pootsilu He may be the keystone, but he's not the whole bridge.

  • Comment removed

  • This reminds me anxiety about future and world I used to feel in childhood

  • This is surprising, a fantastic album: the past, present and future of music is here

  • What is this smooth jazz yawnfest? Good playing from everyone as you'd expect, but more lifeless than I've ever heard them. Seriously, is this a Crimson attempt to get into the top ten or something?

  • @czgibson Nah, a gentle soprano sax doesn't make it Kenny G. The vocal harmonics for example are very well-thought.

  • Pop Music 21st Century Style !!!...awesomeness.

  • Imagine how much better almost all Crimso songs would sound without the vocals. This is a great piece , but would be exceptional if left purely instrumental.

  • suena a Sting.

    resambles to Sting's sound.

  • @progreadicto Your hypothesis seems to be confirmed by some cases, like those two other groups you mentioned. However, I am not totally convinced that creativity (musical or else) can, generally speaking, be reduced to a single-peaked function of time like C(t) = a*t - b*t^2, where C(t) is creativity, and t is time. Maybe there is a cycle, say C(t) = cos(f(t)), and humans typically don"t live long enough to reach a second wave. Or even, for some individuals, maybe C = exp(t)...

  • @TheEipiplusone thanks god i'm mathematician!. well i guess we cannot talk ina deterministc fashion, we have to see it in a probabilistic fahion: maybe more than 95% ´percent of "old groups" make mediocre records today. the musical ideas is like a "very expensive fuel" you "burn it" with time, you can gather some more, but never like your initial endowment. is imposibble to modelate creativity with a function, we can talk only on probabilities. C=exp(t) i think is impossible, give an example

  • @progreadicto Then bands like Porcupine Tree must be on oil reserves!

  • @Jackalos1 porcupine tree is a good band (like many bands in rock history), but KC is in another level (like a little bunch of bands).

  • Flawless!!!

  • Very beautiful song. I would also very much like to hear these talented musicians play some more upbeat, rock-ish, multi-time-signature songs, as is usually and wonderfully the case in most KC albums. I am sure it would sound great.

  • Exceptionnel.

  • sublime, . . .

  • Although it is a pleasure to hear this new line-up, especially with Harrison on drums, I strongly disagree with the comments posted below regarding the Belew-era. ConstruKction of Light, for instance, is truly a masterpiece, with amazing polyrhythmics and incredible melodies.

Anything from KC is welcomed, and there is no need to bash anyone. By the way, can't wait to hear more.

  • I always wanted Mel Collins to show up again, and I too was sick to death of Belew. There were times when I really couldn't stand some of it. I don't know what to say about this. If Fripp calls it Crimso then it is. Thats all. I love Fripp's playing. I miss the mellotron. I know Fripp doesn't miss them breaking down on tour. I need to hear more of this to understand where Collins' playing matters because it's an afterthought on this piece, and he's a superb musician.

  • this is the REAL king crimson.how it supposed to be.belew fucked crimson up. the 80's albums were okay but 90's and 2000's are simply awful.

  • @turtlliwdnifuoyehthr There's not such a thing as "the REAL KING CRIMSON"

Not when there have been so many incarnations of the band experimenting with a vast pallet of sounds and music waves. One of the most (if not THE most) unpredictable acts in the history of Rock.

Maybe not even Fripp knows who the real Fripp is..... (Bipolar motherfuckin' genius...!)

  • @vivelavidarocka

    i guess you're right...

  • much better than anything belew crimson ever done

  • Gorgeous album. for me KC was about constant flux, I was getting tired of the Belew version. Nice shake up. still very Fripp for those who know his sound(s)

  • thanks...Takes me somewhere new in an old museum.

  • Fripp emang master deh ......

  • Its a sleepy album, but just remember you prob didn't like King Crimson the first time you heard them anyway, This album grows on you, its very spiritual but needs one more upbeat track to round it out

  • neta

  • They're not worried if it's gonna sound like KC or not. They just don't want to put the charge of having the KC name on it. So they just can play their music and forget about the repercussion, if it's gonna be good received or not. There is no chance of putting the KC name in bad discussions or stuff. By the way, just listen to the music and ignore who the name its has.

  • I'll buy it... It's simply amazing!

  • I like this .K.K but i think it s a little "light" i insist Jako is a great singer but Adrian is Adrian where is he?

  • 'One of my favourite albums of those where I am a determining element. It has the Crimson gene, but it is not quite KC.' - Robert Fripp

  • nice work, as always.

and especially Levin! your bass again! im so glad!

  • Tomorrow I'm going to buy it!!!

  • Simply beautiful! this is real music, real art, real feeling...

  • shite

  • Welcome back Mr. Mel Collins.

  • Sentimentally speaking, this is not quite king crimson but it definitely kicks ass.

  • maravilloso!!!!!!!

  • @ProfessorRiffs I never said Fripp wasn't a part of this lineup. In fact, one year he was playing backup in six or seven bands in one year. I just said that this video is not King Crimson and I'm sure Fripp would be first to agree. It's unlikely you'll see this particular lineup because Fripp formally announced his retirement as a (touring) professional musician in December of last year.

  • Very nice direction! I'm glad to have hear old King Crimson is just as good as the new King Crimson.

  • Gavin is amazing. well done!

  • Agreed Amino. And as I stated 4 days ago, this ain't Crim. It's great, but not Crim.

  • If you like this, right on. I do not. For me, KC has always been very creative, edgy, and full of surprise. That's what was exciting about them and that's what's missing here.

  • The vocal takes away from what I like here.

  • Golliwogg APPROVES of this song.

  • By the way, for those playing at home, the final Crimson lineup were Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Pat Mastellotto, Gavin Harrison and Tony Levin.

  • This is NOT King Crimson. King Crimson ceased to exist as of August 17th 2008, when they played their last gig at the Nokia Theatre in NYC. I know this because I was there. Robert Fripp has officially retired as a performer, with the exception of occasional soundscaping. Not sure when this was recorded, but it does sound great and nice to hear Mel Collins again. But this ain't Crim. Don't know why it is posted as such.

  • @Johniola1 This album is listed on the wiki page for Fripp, and on the wiki page for the album itself, it shows Fripp as being in the line-up. Where did you see that he wasn't on it?

  • Nice, an evolution of KC that is very introspective and tonally mature. Collins weaves in early KC influences which is a real treat. I've been listening to Fripp's other ambient efforts, hearing them here is great. Although I am a huge Bruford fan from way back ('69), Harrison is just brilliant. I can't really compare this to the other KC incarnations much more than that because for me, it's more about listening to it only for what it is, not what it isn't. And I like it.

  • Bill Brufford, I miss his drums.

  • @tandeta He was a fantastic drummer.

But Gavin Harrison is fucking incredible as well. Listen to anything he's done with Porcupine Tree, it is definitely some of my favorite drum work anywhere.

  • @tandeta but Gavin Harrison is absolutely amazing, search him up here on youtube,

  • Congratulations K Crimson is alive but where is Adrian Belew?

  • @rockme1492

Belew's voice wouldn't have suited this material IMO.

  • I think that it is more appropriate to say that Kenny G sounds like Mel Collins...

Be that as it may. This song is richly textured, with every player contributing. There is virtuosity without the music being overshadowed by ego (much). Jakszyk, Levin and Harrison lay down a rhythm that intermeshes well with the soundscapes. Harrison's drumming is worthy. Levin purrs. The lyrics are poetic. Fripp, Collins and Jakszyk provide a tone that complements and expresses that poetry. It's Crim!

  • I have not had the chance to listen to the whole album yet, but I am really enjoying this one song. For me, that's the bottom line. My inner muse puts the stamp of approval on it without expectation or over thinking it.

In terms of the "Is this Crimson?" meme going on here, I have to say "of course it is Crimson!" whether officially KC or a ProjeKCt. Mel Collins has been a part of KC's history, and his texturing is very much in keeping with the sound of the Crimson King.

  • I LIKE IT!

  • oh my god......beautiful.. this is music...good to hear levin with crimson again...sounds brilliant...and that's not the whiskey talking..although it helps to remind you of whats important and whats bullshit.

  • as i gather, i don't think this project is considered king crimson

  • belew will be missed so fucking much

  • king crimson tofay? crazy world haha

  • beautiful.

    making art these days ..

  • this whole album sorta reminds me of the division bell

  • Not King Crimson... but anyway, great song and album. Tony Levin <3 Chilling the fuck out.

  • I don't mind it but I hope they throw in more time changes.

  • I like this.....

  • I think this stuff is awesome...I can smell the Crimson´s music in this. Robert Fripp is a monster and the most musical influyent in all style of music...Viva¡ the Crimson King

  • Wow...this is awesome. Gavin the drummer adds such a flavor to this song. Wish I was in the studio with these guys and had an acoustic guitar in my hand. IMHO...this is a Brilliant melody.

  • this is great, tho i'm not a fan of Jakszyk

  • Thank you for posting this, but please remove "King Crimson" from the description. This is a Jakko/Fripp/Collins album, and isn't pretending to be otherwise.

  • Porcupine Tree sound...very good

  • someone should post the rest of the album cause i've only heard one song and this might be the i talk to the wind like song on the album. If they have heavier stuff then i would be happy.

  • It's still sounds like king crimson but i don't like the smooth jazzness of it. It reminds me of kenny g.

  • Another point about this - some of the greatest KC stuff has appeared as 'Projekcts' maybe because RF knows that many people who profess to being 'progressive' music fans expect their heroes to keep producing music in the style to which they have been accustomed. IMHO one of the truly great (and largely unknown) KC albums is the Projekct X CD 'Heaven and Hell' recorded simultaneously with TCOL which is far more adventurous than most of the official KC releases.

  • king crimson never sounded like king crimson, never will

  • since mel collins is here and belew is not, this sounds like the classic KC.i really like it compared to belew crimson.KC should be led by fripp.not belew.all he did was just mixing 80s pop sound and prog

  • And for those cry babies sobbing for the "death" of Crimson as they knew it (or imagined it), well, maybe it's time to listen some new exciting and talented guitar based acts (without the Fripptonics) like Don Caballero, Toe, The Mercury Program, Maserati, Pele, Turing Machine and others

Like in the seventies, there are progressive musicians in our times as well, so you know....And If you haven't heard of them, or aren't familiar with their names, guess what?... maybe is because they are good.

  • Comment removed

  • @vivelavidarocka I checked those bands you've mentioned. I must say, they all are very good. More interesting, they all are guitar found bands, but the common denominator I've noticed is they all have superb drumming.

You are right, screw softy Crimson; time to discover the new progressiveness in today's music. Thank you.

  • @InProgWeTrust You are welcome. But just for the record, I never said "screw softy Crimson" I actually like this tune.

    Cheers, man.

  • Oh, shut up......This shit is good. I like it.

  • It sounds like a terrible soft jazz fusion. I wouldn't expect it from Fripp. Both his solo works and his kcrimson stuff are much much better than this.

  • in all technicality its not king crimson its a project. I don't know if i like the new singer and i think if they make a last album before fripp dies it should include either greg lake, john wetton, or adrian belew. imo

  • @grevejp44 .....Is Fripp planning to die soon? I do hope not when he's making music as brilliant as this. Seriously, how can anyone rate Wetton or Lake as great singers?

  • Fripper majek at its best! Long live the KING!!!!

  • I just love this crimson project. I see it as a totally different approach. I love Crimson's music always take you somewhere. this time to a mood I enjoy delightfully as other different albums. another good work.

  • everything is good except the horrible singing, why couldn't this have been an instrumental album?

  • This is definitely a great song! love its jazz stile!! KING CRIMSON projekts RULES!!!!

  • Kinda like Devin Townsend's "Ghost".

    Love it!!

  • Does anyone know if Lassie Hollie directed the clip?

  • Sorry men! Sorry StarlessL5 KING CRIMSON is not only "Discipline", "Thrak", " The Power to Believe", ....etc.........The basis has always been since 1969 and even before (Giles, Giles & Fripp).Let them do what you (I'm not sure) You've ever done.

  • @Cheleske Haven't ever done

  • It's the first time I see Fripp in a video-clip.

  • Just Perfect...

  • Great song... and oddly, gentle enough to work on The Weather Channel!

  • Different line up, less polyrythms but same fantastic sound.

Perhaps showing more of their jazz roots

  • Odd to see Jakszyk being the rhythm player—he's one of few guitarists who could potentially keep up with Fripp. Also odd to see Fripp and Collins recorded separately from Jakszyk, Levin, and Harrison, but oh well. Nice song.

  • @vinvanveen i honestly doubt they care who the better musician is

  • This album starts out so incredibly strong, but I really don't care too much for the 2nd half.

  • Sounds like if KC was formed in 2010, and they weren't a bunch of hippies, but a bunch of emo kids.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love all these guys. But...jeez, who'd ever think we'd be hearing slick AOR coming out of the Crimson camp!? Sorry, I'll pass on this one.

  • @gortleib - In the age of iTunes singles and robot radio stations that we currently exist in, there is little in the way of AOR going on. If Crim wants to offer AOR to us, it is not out of character for them. If they want to offer saxophone to us, it is not out of character for them. As far as the slick goes, if the combination of soprano sax and jazzy sounding chords too slick, then I would say that you are prejudiced by other lousy albums. Listen to it on its own merits.

  • 1 word... WOW !!!

  • great vid but it's important to change title to "King Crimson ProjeKct" because this officially isn't King Crimson, and it isn't, Belew is missing.

  • Comment removed

  • The video is nothing special, and the song sounds very surprising for ears used to Fripp or Crimson. The cd, though more or less in the same style, is much more understandable if listened entirely. Yes, I know, this is not REAL King Crimson, but everything Mr. Fripp does is like a new Crimson thing. 40 years eagerly waiting for the next move... and always a pleasure to listen to it!

  • I'm a huge KC fan, but I just can't bring myself to like this. The clarinet(?) is too Kenny G for me. "The Other Man" had some elements of the KC that I know and love

  • @timi0000, soprano sax. But I can't find any other connection with Kenny G than the use of the same instrument. It also sounds as John Coltrane, from this point of view.

  • Simply outstanding. Just love the interplay between the sax, voice, and guitars, and with Levin and Harrison holding down the fort, this piece is soul food for the psyche. Not a traditional King Crimson recording, and shouldn't be judged as such. Lovely.

  • Sounds like elevator music.

  • Great song and musicianship. No real hooks, but you have to listen to it a few times to have it grow on you.

  • Music means these kind of melodies that go straight to the soul

  • I like this singer - I tend to like the "more serious" singers that Fripp has worked with more than Belew, who gets to wacky and "comical" for his own good (though he is ridiculously talented, I just don't like when he tried to be funny).

Gotta love how Fripp is just a "shadow" in the background in the video, but it it HIS sound that encompassed the most space in the song.

This is much closer to 1970's KC. I'm liking it the more I listen.
