@ballbagbaggins Well i wouldn't call them half reps,i'm just not locking out.I never lockout on high reps sets like this.Locking out just takes me out of my rhythm for doing fast reps....no other reason really.
ok cool thanks. i was just wondering what would be a better way for me to train. maybe the shorter reps to increase intensity to focus more on chest then blast my tris another day :)
I think you had 34 reps in you Mark. You'll have it next time for sure. Congratulations to Glen on that one as well. He looks to be a little older, so that's awesome for his age. Keep up the heavy training guys.
@cyberkai99 Thanks my friend! Yeah it wasn't a good day anyway for me i felt weak and did these as a after thought at the very end of the workout.I think on a good day i have around 36 or so.I'll try again soon.A little older lol ...do i look that old haha.Yeah Glenn is 61 and i'm 41yrs old.Yeah Glenn is doing the best he has in many yrs!
Not you, Mark. Looking at you, I would think you're in your late 20's or early 30's, if I didn't know better. But Glen certainly looks in his 50's and to bench 220 for reps is awesome for him. As for my training, bench training couldn't be going any better, but injuries have been preventing my squat and deadlift from growing as they should be.
Nice job bro. That reverse-grip is looking more and more natural. I know the feeling you had, on Sunday I was planning on attempting 400 lbs for a single, but as I warmed up the reps just felt slow and heavy. So, after doing my last warm up with 355 lbs, I just did some speed work and called it a day. CNS needs a break. I will start light again and work my way back up again...
@BRETZERR Thanks Randy! Yeah i feel quite comfortable with them now.Yeah it seems the body only has so many heavy workouts before the body hits a wall and goes backwards. It happens to me all the time.I've yet to figure it out myself. The only thing u can do is switch to higher reps for a bit and let tendons/CNS rest for a while.
Thanks brotha!!! workin on a 550 single will post it as soon as I get It!!225 for 33..not to shabby!!! Keep up the good work!! reverse is a style many dare not to try!!!
you should always go to failure mark(when pushing for a pr) why stop at 24? u shoulda gone for 35! this time it bit you in the ass...we all know u were strong enough anyway
Wow...you make 225 look like it's an empty 45 lb bar! Great job! I have also had that problem with losing count on high rep sets, one time on squats I thought I had done 30 but it was only 28, if I had known it was only 28 I would have been able to do 2 more!
If your brother Glen gets any stronger I think he won't be able to fit any more plates on that old Weider bar. He is going to outgrow that set soon at this rate.
P.S. I see you grew back your goatee, alright! It suits you.
@oratorman Thanks bro! Yeah high rep sets when you're going real fast with the bar are a bitch to keep track of the reps.I really thought i had counted 34 lol.If i knew it was 33 i would've at least attempted another rep! Haha Glenn prefers the short little bar and that narrow bench haha it's funny but true haha.
Mark you had 34 in you man, if you only knew it was the 33rd rep =/... Also seated military press 30 reps thats like an estimated 265 max and you still looked like you had 5-10 more in you LOL!!
Also awesome job Glenn! Your estimated max is 249, so you definitely have at least 250 in you. Also you are usually better at maxes compared to esitmated maxes, So I wouldnt be surprised if you had a 255-260 max now!
@PowerlifterTy16 Thanks a lot Ty! I wasn't feeling it at all today. The high rep stuff was a after thought, just to scrap something from the workout and not have a total failure.Hopefully next week i'll get back on track.Glenn should easily hit 250 when he tries it!
@IncredibleHulkRobert Thanks Rob! Yeah if i had known that was 33 i'm pretty sure i could've got another rep.Yeah Glenn is in a nice strength groove right now!
Congrats to both of you. I use the same stratagem as you do on days I feel I can't lift "heavy." That is, I attempt high rep PR's at a relatively lower weight. It keeps me encouraged. Anyway, nice vid and keep them coming!
@emeraldseven Thanks my friend! Yeah exactly it feels good to try and get something good to come out of the workout.I could've said to hell with it when the heavy stuff wasn't working out.I felt better about the workout after doing the high reps!
haha awesome i did this exercise today with 40 each side of the bar too. only got 11 reps though but my first attempt :P
are you doing half reps on purpose to make it harder because of increased intensity or easier cos its over faster?
