It's not as difficult as it seems to get pictures of lightning. You just need to be at a good spot when thunderstorms are predicted, set up your camera with a tripod, and use the long exposure feature to keep the film of the camera open to light for an extended period of time, say 15 seconds. In this way, you have a better chance of catching a lightning strike, or even multiple strikes, across that period of time.

For all those who are asking:

To catch lightning you simply have to use a long shutter speed.

By using the mode S or Sv on your camera (if it has that) it allows you to put the desired shutter speed and the camera will do the rest to not make it over-exposed. The bright lightning will freeze itself into the picture quickly.

Program it to do continuously shots, this can be done easily on many computer programs, and on some cameras. Pick out the lucky ones. Done :)
