hey i have an ETX-90AT meade telescope and a 26mm eyepeice, is that enough for me to view the moon or plannets? How do i connect my telescope with my laptop? I alsop have a fujifilm finepix 1900 digital compact camera, how do i connect that with my telescope?
@ginotheitalian Cool! I'm twelve to, and i live in Sweden. We have some overly bright skies, which is not good. My telescope is a Meade LX90 8" schmidt cassegrain with Electro magnetic coatings. Really great telescope! I bought it used. When the retailer bought it for 6 years ago, it cost about 30 000 kr (3000 €), but he sold it to me for about 10 000 kr (1000 €)! I'm hoping for darker skies when we go "serious observing" deeper in the country. No light pollution. That would be GREAT!!!
great. looking at getting the ETX LS 6" ACF, had an ETX 125 years ago and that was great once aligned, LightSwitch will be ace, especially as its not exactly an easily portable unit, by the time I have stumbled through a dark field to a good spot, don't wana spend an hour setting up.
@bosb33r certainly does, thanks, have to save bit more first, can't wait though! I thought the etx was brilliant, only problem is the LS is rather chunky and i live in a light polluted country area. The resolution and clarity should be way in advance of the 125, thats good enough for me, i'm no astronomer, i just love looking into space!
is the ETX-70 better or worse then the ETX-80 and what are the differences? because i'm intrested in buying a telescope for around $300, and i'm a bit new at this but i want something good. it dosn't need to be portable, i'm really planning on trailing it around mountians or anything, just backyard explorations
@lankey32 for twenty bucks 5 stars!!! lol overall in general i wouldnt recomend it becuase of its extremely small aperature for anything but low magnification planetary and lunar veiwing. I wouldnt push it past 120X
just wondering if the 125 in the video is a uhtc,i will be getting the one without it but will be glad to know,i am going with your advice on the baader hyperion 8mm and 17mm and was wondering what 2x barlow to go with.thanks for the advice!
Hi herbal, if you look to my other vid's from the russentonne that scope is also without UHTC. When using 2x barlow it will magnify more and togheter with the big eyepieces it will increases double! only thats nice (8mm) for moon and the 17mm u can use it for planets because the light wat your telescope will catch will decrease through your eyepiece with all these equipment!
hello again friend i have decided against the meade ext 70 but am going for the Celestron NexStar 114 SLT with the Celestron Neximage CCD Astro Camera it is quite a good telescope and the camera has a good spec to but unfortunatly i wont be getting it until the 5/6th of jan :( but when i get some vids i will post them to you
The Baader Hyperion eyepiece is really expensive - over £100. have you any other (affordable) recommendations? Also we both wear glasses and i've read this should be factored in too.
Sorry for the long posts, but I felt a bit weird emailing you. :-)
Yes this eyepieces are expensive, on the other side some day you will buy better one's, i have sold all my other eyepieces to get 2 of the Baader hyperions, 8mm and 17mm is enough to have in your eyepiece collection. they are also good when u wear glasses they have 20mm of eye-relief!!!!
other eyepieces of this format you will pay 3 times more, if i where u gonna look on the seccond hand market perhaps you will find them there? Good luck!
Santa brought my daughter one of these scope's and she's pretty happy with it but the detail viewing the Moon is nowhere near as good as this video.
Following your advice here, I had a look at buying another EP, since by all accounts those provided are limiting the scope and I don't think we are getting the most out of it... ...
@Radioheadcase1 all what you get with the telescope is default, good eyepieces makes wonders this video has been made with a Webcam with special adapter webcam magnification of a webcam is more than a normal eyepiece (default 1)
@bosb33r thanks for the advice im going to buy al the upgrades i can t get the best view possible i have watched many videos on this scope and im really looking forward to picking it up tommorow so hopefully should have some of my own vids on here soon
No Problem openyouremind ! make sure that the focus turn smooth when u get the telescope & and try to get a power adapter in your local store its cheaper there than in your telescope store! because its a battery eater! when you put the telescope in search mode its not 100% to find your target and the only eyepiece what will work a bit that's 26mm(that's includeded) when you take the smaller 1 you won't find your target!
hi great pics!!! i got the ETX- 70, i jus got my head round the autostar and flip in barlow, but struggling to see any great detail! :( any suggestions for lenses i got 3 different with it as standard, but wondering if light pollution is an issue where i live as well. also is the camera mount for this model standard or does it depend wot camera you have? as you can probably guess im a beginner!! lol be grateful for any advice you can share thanks :)
The ETX-70 is not so bad at all only the eyepieces are soso, you will need some good eyepieces i will recommed the Baader Hyperion eyepieces i have got a 8mm and 17mm and they are great you will see much more details han you can also use Fine Tuning Rings from Baader will allow you to easily change the focal length of your Hyperion eyepiece!
so say the 8mm eyepiece + 14+24mm rings between the eyepiece it will be a 4,3mm eyepiece
I dont have the ETX-90AT, but i think its a good choice between the telescopes i have, and i think its also good for nature observation. dont underestimated the ETX-70 or 80 with the right barlow and Eyepieces (baader Hyperion 8 and 17mm) you will see much more than the original eyepieces they will give you when you buy the telescope
bob...this video was taked with the etx 70 at or 125 at.....i want to buy an etx-70....its easy mounting the cam on it?...what is for atrophotografy????
this vid is from both telescopes , i used an webcam with adaptor for it, and for photos i have never made photos with the telescopes most people say when u want to do this (deepsky) u need another mount for it
hey. anyone has experience with etx-80? i have one, i know its a amateur telescope, but still i cannot see anything else than a little yellow dot when i try to see venus. really wierd, can't believe i can't get any closer
Yeah, what the title of the song. I know it's from Hans Zimmer but I can't remmeber the movie. Wish it was as simple as lion king. I know it's not Hunt for red october. hehe.
I have an ETX80. Only just bought it and having difficulty setting up the Autostar. Any tips? Also, i have the standard eye pieces which give excellent quality of the moon but not the close ups you are getting in these videos. Would i need a Barlow lens for this and if so what do you recommend? Thanks.
I always use my webcam for this movies Philips Toucam pro or Logitech messenger, if u look on my favo's on my page u will see there the webcam mod, and for setting up the autostar look for Meade ETX-125PE. Mounting & 2 star alignment (Alt/Az) from docsquee
Yes the 125 has a higher magnification but for low budget the ETX-70 is super.I still use the ETX-70 a lot ,its easy to handle and quick to grab for observation

weird question but have you seen anything really weird or unexplained since I started all this? on the moon or further out?
moontoot 1 year ago
Meade ETX-70 or ETX-90? What do you prefer for the neophyte? Etx-90 has more programmed goto points! Lemme know what you think!
boneleg 1 year ago
For the neophyte buy a second hand telescope! if you don't like it you can always sell it for the same price. Big aperture make the view better ;)
