Excellent grappling, Kevin moves as good as a 3rd degree bjj. That's the way they moved on the ground .Impressive.I feel sorry if anybody try to take this men down on the street. He could do a lot of damage...
The transicion from one movement to the other is what is impresive to me..not trying to compete..learning to detach from ego is alway good over all!! and ofcourse if we need to compete then we compete :)
They both move really well. But it looks like a contest between a skilled wrestler with a background in catch or folkstyle (one in the camo) and a skilled no gi jujitsu guy (the one in khaki). My skepticism about some of the sparring aside, I'm consistently impressed with how they move. Good relaxation, down pressure, knowing the difference between riding an opponent vs. hugging him. I'm impressed.
@stthomasaquarius the important point is that both are skilled grapplers before they ever heard of systema, systema has nothing to offer grapplers or any fighter for that matter, its a complete con job.
the point here is (which applies to any work, not just on the ground) that you keep moving... while moving you have an opportunity to escape any work applied against you, and incidentally apply your own work...
Reading some of the previous comments, it's important to understand that this is a demonstration of movement and breathing skills applied to grappling, not a competitive grappling match.
Yes, but Systema is more about transitions and efficient tactical movement from whatever position you happen to be in. In other words, while you might spend time in the guard during sparring and training, you wouldn't normally learn it as a technique in itself. Same biomechanics as most other good styles, different perspective.
i'm pretty sure the guy who was judge could easily defeat both of those fighters.their skills are great, but those who recognize the third one will know what i'm talking about:)))

@Lejendary2 who knows what motivates people or how they evaluate something.I said they had extensive backgrounds in grappling, not necessarily effective combat, grappling is only a part of combat.I know of other systema lads with strong judo backgrounds but it is surprising theyre into this crap.Combat sambo is a proven system used by many elements of the fomer soviet armed forces, why would they use something so obviously fraudulent.
@billysue2 blah blah blah, they do it because it helps them. I know Dima personally. Go back to bullshido and tell them how angry you are that no one is listening to you
@billysue2 it surprises many people from other arts try "this crap" and get hooked. that seems to make a lot of said people (who inevitably base their knowledge of systema on "internet training") angry. strange response. another response might be "I might try this".
I can think of many matrial artists who had multiple dans/sifu status/sports combat success who turned to systema and stayed. can't think of one who started in systema and went the other way.
Very nice. I've only had one chance to train with Vlad directly, but Dimitri and Kevin look awesome. Great flow and power. Very calm. My friend just bought one of the Systema grappling DVD's and said it was awesome. I can't wait to borrow it.
Agreed. I just had a chance to roll with Kevin in the US. I was more than suprised. Super strong, really smooth and move creative escapes and subs than I have ever seen in 10 years of Sambo or BJJ. He is also a really good coach. He upped my game more in 20 minutes than anyone ever has. World class teacher!
Yep, that's pretty awesome. I recently got a chance to train with Kevin in the US. He was the first person I met who could convince me that Systema could work. I'm a BJJ guy first and foremost and I had never seen 90% of their groundwork ideas. Really impressive stuff. Demetry looks like a pitbull too. Wouldn't want to mess with either of them.
As a Russian, I'm ashamed to admit I only recently stumbled upon Systema. My first exposure was acutally a seminar in NYC where I got to play a bit with Kevin. I was deeply impressed by his ability and generosity as a teacher. I hope one day to get the chance to train with Demetry and Vladimir as well.
i don't disagree, as demetry has a strong wrestling background as well, so i think that shows a bit in fluidity difference. Wrestling is a bit more power oriented rather than fluidity
Kevin's DVD, primal power, goes into great detail about how he approaches grappling. Being that he has a BA in education, its very easy to understand, almost like ur in a phys-ed class

Ah, that's why I did not see any submissions or pins. Pretty cool. Does systema emply guard at all?

@Lejendary2 ryabko is a complete fraud,as is the whole of systema. The 2 lads here are decent grapplers but it aint due to systema, thats obvious.

Interesting that nobody seemed to keep low or tight to control the guy on the bottom.
Still, some smooth and quick techniques. I'd love a chance to roll with them. Probably learn a lot.

Kevin is absolutely brilliant both as a teacher and as a martial art exponent. He's as fluid as water and as strong as steel.
