the peugeot 205 , one of the best cars ever made, and the groupe b rallye version even better than the audi quattro, jean todd made a superb work with the peugeot team.
I agree that this is one of the best small cars of all time, but I think it wrong to say it is better looking than a VW Golf Gti. The VW Golf Mk 1 design has aged more gracefully.
@springheeledjack123 yes your right it is ultravox - vienna at the start of the clip but they wanted to know the song that start at 1 minute 50 second into the clip and that is frankie goes to hollywood - two tribes
i had one, o dear then i settled down, no air bags no crumple zones, crash ,and it was one better than a motorbike, no its no subaru imprezza..but it was affordable and the best fun on 4 wheels, im not joking!! google it.. this car saved Peugeot !! up there with the 80s legend the mk1 n mk2 Golf Gti ...magic xx
@SvenskFilm2 thats too much of a generalization. for the most part i agree with you, but id bet my bottom dollar that there's still that special feeling (the one any petrolhead would know) from buying, say, a c63 or a gti, or even a challenger.
it got it all, looks, power, handling, unfortunately it's very hard to find one in good condition many of this legendery cars have been tuned and destroyed by stupid and unexperienced selfpretended young pilots.
I'm 18 and my first car is a Peugeot 309 GR, which is a bit of a pig compared to this, but I still think it is pretty damn quick and with extraordinary handling. I'd recommend them, even if they aren't as sort after as the 205 Gti
they may not be quick by todays standards stock but with some twin 40 webbers decent exhaust piper cam maybe a port n polish 200 hp is not to hard to find and in a car weighting like 900kg thats gona be quick init
205 best car Ive driven and i only had (please dont be sick) the diesel version slowest 0-60 Ive driven about 15s but put it on twisty roads it was fun and left even 4ltr jag behind well until the 2mile straight and i was half way along that. servicing easy bugger all to go wrong mine made188k before it was nicked and apart from brakes only theradiator wasnt original and even bad driving 50mpg+
This car is a classic! When i was kid these were the bollocks, and is the reason why i own hot hatches today which may i ad includes a 1.9 205 gti.Tbh i love my 205 more than the modern hatches i own
Lovely car. What slightly saddens me however is seeing a few 205 GTI's with non-Peugeot aftermarket add-ons. Each to their own I guess, but it spoils the true nature of what this car is. If ever there was a car which symbolises the 80's, this has to be it. One of these in mint condition with all original parts is a thing of beauty in itself. My previous car admittedly wasn't a 205, but a 206 (Quiksilver). Nice looking car, but I had to get shot of it in the end. Plagued by ECU faults constantly.
I'm going to buy a 1.6 in beautiful miami blue in january, Iv'e had a 206 gti for the past year and now find it a bit boring, had a 205 gti 12 years ago and wonder why I ever sold it.........cant wait to get back on those wee windy roads :)
That rally version looks truly terrifying!! Look at that man at 2:11!! Is he INSANE!!? No wonder group B didn't last that long, thrilling as it surely was!

I swear I've got a bulge in my pants over that car...been ages since I've driven one, but still remember how bloody quick it was around corners...I will one day restore one...:) fond memories:)
in Spain this car in first series with 1.900 cc the horsepower was 130cv, I had a this of one,and I can say that this is the most fun car that I drived,in road mountain the champion cars.
I've had 2 they are beautiful but understated, handle like a gocart on steroids and while not the quickest car on the road unless you drive like a chav they should be fast enough for most people.
Best hot hatch of the 80's, one thing I can't understand is why do people believe the 205 GTI is faster in a straight line and round bends than the 206 GTI 180? The 206's 180 bhp is too much for the 205 to keep up with and the 206's handling is amazing (Pseudo MacPherson struts, hydraulic shock absorbers and the 17" alloys with Pirelli P7000 tyres) If I was young in the 80's I’d of probably bought a 205 GTI as it's a drivers car.
P.S 2 great songs Ultravox and Frankie, god I love 80s music
@1987LOZ1987 yeah but the 206 looks like the b&%stard child of a 205 and a skoda crap looks and cheap interiour with good performance! the 205gti is probably the best french car ever built and most stylish! and second would be a 3dr 309 gti which had the same performance and good looks but handles better due to a wider track with. my mate has a 1.9 gti 205 and he had 206 and it was a horrible cheap peice of dirt! we both agree that they dont make cars as good as they use to!
I noticed the ones in Europe and beyond have standard aircon;why couldn't Peugeot do it here in the UK? It would improved the stuffy heater linked ventilation system and give a degree of comfort in very warm weather;the standard heat/vent syetem gave warm air to your face when heating/demisting.

In Germany the P205 GTI 1.9 had 120ps/hp w/ cat. w/o cat 128ps/hp. Kickass little hatch in its day! I drove a non-kat version for a couple of years (128hp) and it ran like a little Devil!
@pauljh1968 Only the latest from 1994 had 122bhp and lost 80% of the fun for the pollution and stuff like this, but the 1.9 from 1987 to 1993 had 130bhp and were much more agressive than those 122bhp.
@GregosTH Yeah, 130bhp doesn't actually sound like that much by today's standards but modern cars are so much heavier....130bhp in something that weighed about 800-900kg made it bloody fast.
@pauljh1968 Nope, the orginal 1.9 had the magic 130... Top speed 130mph and 130bhp. But saying that alot of sources say 128, but i got my checked there 2 years ago, it was measured at 128, so i guess 130 is correct.

@pauljh1968 That was for the models with a catalytic converter (post late 1990), the earlier ones had 130Bhp. The 1.6 was originally 105Bhp and increased to 115Bhp. In practice the difference between a 1.9 and a 1.6 seems huge, the 1.6 has shorter gearing as well, whereas the 1.9 could hit well over 60mph in second gear, which in a car weighing 880kg felt very rapid indeed.
HAHA, shut up!! just read over wat uve written throughout all the comments!!! and spare time......... u must hav alot of it sein the lenght of the bullshit you write on here!!!
Like a mini, these little buzz boxes just look for affection. They make you smile, they make you want to look after them. I have a 1.9, and the little critter loves when the red mist descends across my eyes. And never lets me down, as I treat the puppy dog with the potential lift off oversteer respect he deserves. Definitely a classic, along with his German pal, Mark One Golf.
MY dream car is the 205 gti, its the only car iv ever wanted.
When i started my driving lessons at 17 (im now 21) i got a load of insurance quotes for one, the cheapest was £5000 for the year, fully comp. No fucking thankyou, so i quit my lessons and now use public transport lol.
Drive for 2 years in a normal car. Then your insurance will drop much lower. I had a Saxo vts which is similar, I totally loved it. The 205 gti should be a great car to drive.
Its a K reg so its a 93, at a time where scum were nicking them and tearing up the streets and smashed most of them up. coz of that high insurance, speed bumps, bollards, speed cameras (or as i like to call them driving pleasure killers that never improved the statistics of the govt), huge investments (in police vehicles) and busybody samaritans phoning the police to grass on someone speeding or pulling off a wheelie, if one likes motorcycles, and so do i.
dont come this shite on my vids,,,,,,,,,,,,,, no one has called you cock job so shut the fuck up,,,,, everyone is entitled to there oppion if you dont like 205's why bother loking for them then, they are and were a grat car in there times any more comments like that sorry but you get blocked
Who says I don´t like 205? I have one and I´m very pleased with it. Not a GTI but a Generation... Anyways Paul, I´m really sorry if you didn´t like my last comment on this video, I thought he called me that. Just erase it if you want.
each to there own mate, i put the vid on because i love them, and i dont expect everyone else to do the same,,,, you have to admit tho they were a good hot hatch in there time,,,,, not quick by todays standards tho but will still out handle a lot of modern cars around corners today, well i find that with mine anyway lol
yeah, to be fair, these GTi's don't have the attributes of a modern car. these cars can be updated to modern standards, but its not worth it.
On the plus side, these cars are absolutly the dogs testes, and i used to own a 1.6, white in original condition, had it fitted with a modified golf GTi 6 speed gearbox coz i didn't like the pugs rough change and performance. modern tech can enhance these beasts but not too much.
once i sld it, hd original refurbed an i pt it bk in2 restore originality.
i drive a limited edition serronto green 1.9gti,its everything clarkson describes it as and more! iv had cossies,rs turbos, clio 172,16v"s,the lot, most are faster but none compare when it comes to handling/steering.its hot start problem is a bad head mind!!! ha ha
i've got a 205!! bright yellow, and it's my first car!! they are great, absolutely fantastic. i live in that sort of environment, in wales, quite barren, and it's just so pokey!
106s are still good, but the 205 and 306 are the best theyve ever made. The 406 coupe wasnt bad too, but the modern Pugs are boring big fat things. And I dont know why people buy the new pugs, anything from vw, skoda, seat, fiat, ford or even vauxhall are better and often cheaper.
i have just got a 1.6 gti in red and it is amazing cant fault the baby it feels how a proper car should not like these new big heavy bubbly plastic shit cars of today, the 205 gti has lovely retro looks and character i cant wipe the smile of my face when i am driving it so much fun ,if any of you are thinking of getting one do it you wont regret it !!!!!!!!!!!
This is a one in a kind machine which would never be repeated. Pug could relaunch the 205 based on the New Citroen DS3 as a basic car for someone with a fair few pence to turn it into a custom mean machine, but like the very good new MINI, it won't be like the original. the new 205 would be great, but never would be the legend
Wow the power of fists, no surprises you were like 3 years old when the 205 was in its prime. I won't post my address, and you won't fly half way round the world to get your ass kicked, so who is the keyboard warrior now?
Legendary vehicle.

@pauljh1968 Nope, the orginal 1.9 had the magic 130... Top speed 130mph and 130bhp. But saying that alot of sources say 128, but i got my checked there 2 years ago, it was measured at 128, so i guess 130 is correct.

@pauljh1968 i think that 1.6 has 120 and 1.9 has 130.. But the most impressive is the 205 1.3 Rallye, which is 105hp on 800kg car :) :) :)
vlahojohn 10 months ago
@pauljh1968 130 bhp if non catalic converter
biryanikebab 10 months ago
@pauljh1968 That was for the models with a catalytic converter (post late 1990), the earlier ones had 130Bhp. The 1.6 was originally 105Bhp and increased to 115Bhp. In practice the difference between a 1.9 and a 1.6 seems huge, the 1.6 has shorter gearing as well, whereas the 1.9 could hit well over 60mph in second gear, which in a car weighing 880kg felt very rapid indeed.
treebarkjacket 10 months ago
@pauljh1968
It was 122BHP in the later 1993 model due to the cat converter, pre '93 models had ~130BHP From the crank, mabye 105BHP from the wheels.
thereaperwaits0 10 months ago
@NismoDJ20 the non-cathalytic version had 127 bhp

StoriesOfaStoner 2 years ago
patience pays off! id you had been driving for 4 years with no claims, insurance would be much more affordable now
robicool 2 years ago
@robicool i agree. it would be with the no claims.. but i didnt have the 5 grand to start with lol.

haha yeh tell me about it

Drive for 2 years in a normal car. Then your insurance will drop much lower. I had a Saxo vts which is similar, I totally loved it. The 205 gti should be a great car to drive.

what year 205 is this?
bikerboomer 2 years ago
Its a K reg so its a 93, at a time where scum were nicking them and tearing up the streets and smashed most of them up. coz of that high insurance, speed bumps, bollards, speed cameras (or as i like to call them driving pleasure killers that never improved the statistics of the govt), huge investments (in police vehicles) and busybody samaritans phoning the police to grass on someone speeding or pulling off a wheelie, if one likes motorcycles, and so do i.

pauljh1968 2 years ago
each to there own mate, i put the vid on because i love them, and i dont expect everyone else to do the same,,,, you have to admit tho they were a good hot hatch in there time,,,,, not quick by todays standards tho but will still out handle a lot of modern cars around corners today, well i find that with mine anyway lol
pauljh1968 2 years ago 8
yeah, to be fair, these GTi's don't have the attributes of a modern car. these cars can be updated to modern standards, but its not worth it.

I wish they imported these to the US.
Just epic.
At least we got the CRX.
SpeedingStudent 2 years ago 2
these cars have never been federalised for the USA. Peugeot did not see North America as a sales target like BMW did with the MINI.

i've got a 205!! bright yellow, and it's my first car!! they are great, absolutely fantastic. i live in that sort of environment, in wales, quite barren, and it's just so pokey!

205 and 306. The 2 best cars to come from france. The rest just arent worth much bother IMO.
cityflyguy 2 years ago 3
What about the 106 :D (I'm only saying that because I have one)
jjintheuk 2 years ago
106s are still good, but the 205 and 306 are the best theyve ever made. The 406 coupe wasnt bad too, but the modern Pugs are boring big fat things. And I dont know why people buy the new pugs, anything from vw, skoda, seat, fiat, ford or even vauxhall are better and often cheaper.
cityflyguy 2 years ago
i have just got a 1.6 gti in red and it is amazing cant fault the baby it feels how a proper car should not like these new big heavy bubbly plastic shit cars of today, the 205 gti has lovely retro looks and character i cant wipe the smile of my face when i am driving it so much fun ,if any of you are thinking of getting one do it you wont regret it !!!!!!!!!!!

205 GTI = Legend
CountryPug 2 years ago 26
@countryPug
