  • i love this freeking song...be home soon dang it!!!

  • It's so heartbreaking that these bastards have vevo and Colourfield don't. Now I understand why many people hate Crowded House.

  • Why does they have vevo channel and The Colourfield Terry Hall'ss band don't. I just don't understand. They are prisoners nothing but prisoners New Zealand's prisoners!!!!!!!

  • best band ever. coming from a US bloke that used to suck eddie vedder's dick. THIS is a real band.

  • i've been trying for years to turn people onto Crowded House's and Split Enz's music. A few have followed, and if that's it then it's a good thing. Hope they spread it too. The Finn's music has been awesome for decades, and they need more airplay in the States.

  • I can just picture a country music video coming out similar to this at some point. Or maybe it already has? Nevertheless this version will far exceed any successive interpretation.

  • saw them this summer with my parents.

    pure genius.

  • I think this is my favorite song by them.

  • smooth as it comes....

  • Beautiful...

  • If you need me, Im here

  • Neil is a legend...have loved CH for many years and will till the day I die.

  • I was born in 1983 (NZ) and I like rap, r N b etc...but there is nothing like kicking back and listening to Crowded House! I live in Australia now and always chuck these guys on to reminisce

  • Somewhere deep inside

Something's got a hold on you

    And it's pushing me aside

    See it stretch on forever

    I know I'm right

For the first time in my life

    That's why I tell you

    You'd better be home soon... ... ...

    Linda d+++!

  • when u get back home i WILL be gone u miserable bitch

  • @maretajean Nice! I like the distinctive contrast. You should record something to that effect and post it. I would be an instant subscriber.

  • Classic "lost hit of the 80s",,,hint, hint,,,Sirius xm, 80s channel

  • that's why i tell u u better b home soon u no who u r.......

  • u better b home soon baby

  • bitch u better b home soon

  • R.I.P. Hester.

  • What a gorgeous, poignant song by such a great singer/songwriter, Mr. Neil Finn.

  • RIP Paul. You left us way to early :(

  • They've been playing this at the end of what seems like virtually every show for the last two tours.

  • Just like it was yesterday...I remember bringing home the CASSETTE (lmao), and playing this song over and over again. And yes it did suck trying to rewind the tape to catch the very biginning. So genuine.......

  • this is such a beautiful song.

  • just saw an old movie that I loved from many years ago called "The Sum of Us" starring a young Russell Crowe and this great song closed out the movie...amazing..

  • I saw them at The Ryman this past Monday.

I did not want it to end. They closed the show with this song and let

the audience sing along toward the end. I sang my heart out like a fool.

I had drank a Fat Tire and could have cared less! Good Times!

  • I just saw these guys last night in Montclair., NJ. What stands out are the beautiful harmonies, brilliant transitions and strong song writing. Its a shame they never made it big in the US. However based on the crowd last night you would have thought they were the Beatles. Two nights earlier they played in NYC and jammed with David Byrne, another brilliant lyricist and musician.

  • someone sang this to me once...bittersweet x

  • Looking at these videos is bittersweet since Hester's gone...

  • So grew up listening to Crowded House, Dave Dobbyn, Bic Runga, Prince Tui Teka, High Marks great kiwi artists...when the music and lyrics were simple and real...

  • I love this song...,,,beautifully written ,,,the singing is absolute perfection..

I am looking forward to finally seeing them in concert in August at the Ryman.

  • Love this damn song ! Where has all the good music gone?

  • God, what an amazing song. You can't not sing that hook and chorus.

  • I 100% agree with you todd. Same here I am trying to tell my kids about great groups like crowded house, ice house, and so many more. Music is never the same, what we had in 70s and 80s.

  • Yeah I second that, I am a child of the 80's and today's crap is-- well crap. Now it's sample this and sample that and no real good song writers to grab you out of your chair and go see them in concert.

  • esse clipe é perfeito

  • One of the best intro's of any song ever. Gods above this takes me back.

  • Great song! It's a shame this wasn't a bigger hit here (in the U.S.) back in 1988.

  • this song is really amazing, not many songs can almost get me to cry, this song is one of them. this is the reason why i love Aussie music because they are really story telling while singing. not many bands or singers do that

  • @ipsilon160 New Zealand MUSIC... For fuck sake.

  • @reubenmunro mate the band was formed in mealbourne. bu the lead singer Is New Zealander. so that makes the band itself Australian made. whether you like it or not.

  • @ipsilon160 that's why I said NZ MUSIC. Neil and Tim Finn are what drove this band to success < New Zealanders.

  • @ipsilon160 i agree but the majority of the songs were written by n.finn > so therefore it is NZ music

  • @ipsilon160 the band may be more australian than nz but the music is definately nz

  • @reubenmunro New Zealanders that enjoyed Australia more. U would be hating it.

  • Superb song..........Good lyrics

  • One of my personal favorites as well.

  • one of my personal favorites. Weren't the 80"s the best?

  • such a natural and fresh sound this songs ring

  • nz proud

<azzies stole them and look what happend

crowded house + azzie = slit enz

  • Mmmm, misplaced national pride. The band is half Australians. Or at least was - some US bloke in there too now.

  • Man this song is awsome ! It brings me back to the "80's when I was only a young boy growing up in Atlantic Canada , what a time to live in . I wish I could go back !!

  • I loe CH. I could listen to them all day and often do. I have had woodface in my car CD player for about a week now and I have a 26 mile commute.

  • To think, this beautiful song was beat out for song of the year by the shitty fucking crappy song by Bryan Adams' "Everything I do For You" 23 years later I still love this song, where the hell is "Everything I do for you?"

  • Comment removed

  • i wouldn't say that "Everything I do" is a crappy song, but it for sure ain't "Better Be Home Soon", and it sure as hell shouldn't have beat out this song for song of the year. but as most know, Crowded House is a very sadly underrated band in the U.S. Neil Finn's lyrics and vocals, and Nick and Paul's harmony, drums and bass are never to be repeated by anyone. they are the end all, be all of musicianship, imnsho!

  • @ramadarose41 Thanks for your reply, sorry about the profanity in my post, however, I still think E I D F Y, is still a horrible "song" grrrrrrr. You're bang on with Crowded House though, yaaaa

  • no worries about the profanity. i sometimes get pissed about people dissing CH! LOL they just don't get it!

  • @hankedful "Everything I do For You" had much more commercial success than this song. I am partial to "Better be Home Soon".......but I think calling Bryan Adams crappy is ridiculous.

  • @jmallton Youre' right. Such a beautiful song.

  • Bryan Adams, especially that song, is formulated pop ballad drivel shit. In my humble opinion.

I would not say that "crappy" is a ridiculous label for that one.

  • @dunskie Maybe you should compare Bryan Adams resume with Crowded House....there is a distinct advantage here and it doesnt belong to Crowded House

  • I love the version by Jennifer McCarter and the McCarters. You have to hear it.

  • no offense meant here, but i cannot stand that version. i've heard it, over and over as it is played at the store where i work, and it just sucks, imo. but that's just a personal opinion; i don't like many remakes at all.

  • @ramadarose41

I don't understand your comment remake ? This song was written by Neil Finn and released by Crowded house in 1988. Cover versions by Kasey Chambers, Donny Osmond and The McCarters. I do understand when you hear a song many times over it can be off putting.

  • remake, meaning "covers" of original songs. i don't typically like the covers. and this one, in particular, was one i really disliked probably because it was covered by a female singer. it just didn't work well, imo. but like i said, no offense meant, just my opinion.

  • I have been playing and singing this song for a lot of years, but not quite this soulful, or this convincing....and l'm fkn good,( l suppose).

  • The greatest break-up song ever!

  • Kiwis ... do anything for their country but live there!

  • aus and nz ruled with bands in the '80s. Am I showing my age????? lol

  • definitely THE most underrated band of the 80's Such brilliant, insightful songwriting, Neil's McCartneyesque voice an terrific live performances. I had everything on cassette back in the day and now on CD

  • Me too, great band!

    RIP Paul Hester.

    You Better Be Home Soon!

  • He hung him self in central park :(

  • serait ce une menace?

  • The force feeding of bad pop music in America has diminshed the careers of great band like crowded house and Im trying so hard to turn my kids onto these great, Brilliant songs by great, brilliant songwriters...

  • @Todd6120 I know just what you mean, this band is brilliant, beautiful melodies, great voice and lyrics. I'm also trying my kids to listen to more meaningful music besides the crap that's on tv now a days. My son likes classic rock which is cool. My daughter is more interested in 80's new wave which makes me so proud. She was signing "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by the great late Joy Division. I try to expose them to good music at an early age.

  • love this song my marriage break up song

  • RIP Mark Nofler? From Dire Staits? He's not dead. The drummer for crowded House "Paul Hester" died. RIP Paul...

  • kiwi home grown massive band RIP mark knofler

  • Big hit everywhere else but not the U.S's impenetrable insular market. The U.S hasn't got to hear so much great music because of the recording kingpins successfully keeping stuff out that is a hit everywhere else. Ah well, what are you gonna do? You can't run a successful machine and keep a stranglehold on the industry if you just let good music run willy nilly all over. No, it's better to force feed the public mediocre crap and create hit artists behind the scenes before you release it.

  • I genuinely can only understand about half of what you are trying to say here. Is English your first language?

  • Are you gay

  • Bitter much?

  • to right, agree all the way well said

  • This song as far as I remember was a big hit. Great band with lots of great songs from the 80's and 90's. Neil Finn just started the band back up recently as well.

  • Perfect Send of to my uncle that passed away RIP

  • omg this song hitsa me hard...memories of the 80's this song should have been a bi ghit

  • What a fabulous song! I was always surprised that this wasn't a big hit in the U.S. I do remember seeing the video a few times and hearing a few spins on the radio but it should have been a smash here !!(I'm certain it was elsewhere in the world) Crowded House is one great band!

  • Neil Finn is an amazing singer too. One of the most beautiful voices of the pop history. It is so sweet and so sad..

  • I love this song! It is the end title song to my favorite Russell Crowe film "The Sum of Us" I think the song fits the movie perfectly. I love Crowded House!

  • Paul hester,

    thanks for the music cobber...

    Rest peacefully..

  • this is nz song bro!

  • Beautiful video. thank you.

  • I'm happy to be alive too! Feeling so good to hear this again!

  • New Zealand produces really good music and artists.

Neil Fin (lead singer) from New Zealand, is the musical genius behind this bands success. He is regarded as one of New Zealand's most inspirational and talented song writers.

    -That I'll drink too. (:

Kiwi music at its best! Enjoy (:

  • Being a Dutch-Kiwi....Cheers!

    I'll drink to that...

I could not have said it better than yourself:-)....Neil is the Man...

  • What a great song,a great nz/oz band us anzacs stick together.RIP Paul

  • 7. Quit falling for stupid chain letters.

  • Neil played this song solo at hessies funeral. great song, one of my favorites. The standard of music has dropped, crowded house will always be the best.

  • I agree the music standard has dropped thats while all our generations songs are being REdone instead of people having originality. Go Kiwis and Aussies.

  • ^_^ I am *so* glad that I didn't miss their tour last year, it was fantastic. They were fantastic. One of the best nights of my life, so far!

  • flippin' sweet

    ~L

  • I am so happy to be alive right now.

    I love you all.

  • this song was the one when I kicked my husband out after 21 yrs. together commonlaw relationship. whatever, this song rocks and means soooo much more to me now. i;m sad but it is the truth, I will start again and already have. thanks kevin.

  • My iPod has over two weeks worth of music, several thousand songs. Numerous countries, languages, and genres are represented amongst them. Naturally, this only represents a fraction of all the music I've listened to throughout my whole life. So when I say Crowded House is my favorite band of all time, please understand that it's a conclusion I've come to after listening to a wealth of music.

  • They don't get any better...I've come to that conclusion too.

  • great song

  • i've been playing this song everyday, singing it at work, and will play it tonight, for my first time, in my local watering hole....then the girls will attack me, tear my clothes off, at which point i will surrender. the rest of the night will be a blur of lipstick, nipples and pancake syrup....typical wednesday really!

  • haha sum1s a hot kid ;)

  • Every single member of this great group is gorgeous in looks, talent, and pure genius...PERIOD.

  • Thank you so much for agreeing with me! Yes they are superstars, and they will always be one of the greatest bands ever!Their music is sooo inspiring, and beautiful...We are blessed to have Crowded House grace the music world...

  • when i did a tour of NZ the driver said he wanted to play only Kiwi music, the only thing he could come up with was crowded house, and the one dave dobbin song.

I'll give hime points for trying. lol

  • Why not Split Enz and Dragon?

  • I actaully meet paul hester in st kilda in 2004.

Sixth months later he was gone, such a great loss.

  • You were so blessed to have met him! I would have loved to have met him...He was such a talent, may he rest in peace...

  • He was such a great talent.

That night he stood out in the cold after the concert and spoke to all of the fans their. Then he stayed around until everyone had gotten an autograph and a good one one chat.

There are actually some songs he released and many of them are up on here. They are really cool songs.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your story with me! I think that it was wonderful that he took the time to talk to everyone, and sign autographs! Alot of artists do not even do that.anymore... he was such a star, and I will have to check out his songs...Thank you!

  • The Chap on the Keyboard is really enjoying what he's playing.Bravo!!

  • Classic! I love this song

  • Yeah, she would definitely have more emotion for the song than the bloke who actually wrote the thing and knows the true meaning behind it.

  • sarcastic, right?

  • hehe - of course.

  • RIP Hessie

  • There is something about there music that jusr draws me to it like no other band i have herd. It is just so beautiful.

  • Probably my Favorite CH song and I love their songs.

  • Una bella cancion..muy bella..que grupo mas bueno..una lastima que el mundo no los apreciara realmente...optima calidad...

  • the thing i hate most about this song is that it is to short

  • I was very moved by this song. I don't know how I could have missed it before! Watching these videos makes me fall in love with Neil Finn all over again. What a voice!

  • Again, the Finn Brothers at thier usaul best

  • i'm a split enz fan stayed away from crowded house ,listened to a solo tim finn tune and decided to give ch a nother chance.nice tune feels weird after all this time.

  • my 5 year old daughter loves this song.

  • Next time it rains look out the window, and put this song on... It will make you reflect on your life, and make you think about the past...2:26 is the best...legendary song... legendary group...

  • Great comment. I love Crowded House. This was a bit of a change from their first album but what a great song.

  • One of the BEST songs of the 80's, which happens to be the best DECADE in music.

  • I don't want to offend MODERN day advocates, but the music of TODAY sucks, as well as music VIDEOS. One HARDLY gets to listen, and watch music videos like this anymore. YOUTUBE, thank you so much, for keeping music videos like this ALIVE.

  • music of today sucks? watch too much c4 thea hah

  • Tell me where the good music is?

  • idiot

  • Wasn't insulting crowded house I want to know where the good music is presently i.e the present day. Puto cabron.

  • I agree.. no more great lyric songs like there used to be. And most artists/bands are just one hit wonders today.

  • Beauty...

  • I absolutely LOVE this song. I love the video too - sometimes CH vids can be a bit strange but this is one of the best ones imo. Neil Finn's cute too =D

  • what a song.the replay button is getting a lot of use!

  • Legens

  • man....thats a beautiful song....I think it loses a bit at the bridge/chorus slightly, dont know why. Dont like the synth maybe

But the verse is beautiful, top
