From what I've read so far, the bill (HR 6932) does a good job of providing affordable health care to the general public and it has some stiff restrictions on what the health industry can charge. It lays out what the three plans each issuer has to have, what they have to cover and how they have to behave. The public health insurance is spelled out pretty well. I haven't read the Medicare changes yet.
I think what Ed doesn't understand is that if the democrats don't get their foot in the door now with a public option they'll be screwed in the long run. They need to get the public option in there so that in the future they can build on it.
It could have turned out a lot better from the start if Obama been a much stronger leader on this. But there's always the future...you have to start somewhere. But you have to start well enough...this may be well enough.
