What are you people thinking? Nothing will ever top film. And now that we know that digital edit masters are corrupting after only 90 days, digital is NOT the way to go.
John Gilbert President C. A. D. (Citizens Against Digital)
So far, for me, this has been a very reliable projector. My only criticisms are that I wish the ZX had motorized lens functionality, and could produce full chip 3D. Also, the web interface for making adjustments and setting up screen files is sluggish to respond to input.
Digital is not the same as film. As far as shooting is concerned, film has much more dynamic range then digital. Panavision claims to have the same dynamic range as film but not everyone is shooting on a panavision.
It amazes me the amount of stupid people out there. I swear just because something is old doesn't mean it needs to be thrown away. I hate to break it to you digital fans, but it has only be around for a short time and has yet to prove it's self for the long haul.
hey buddy i work at theatre that has 80 ft screen biggest screen in oklahoma and picture is perfect. i think that 35 mm is on its death bed and digial is the new thing people so deal with it. ive done both 35 mm and digital. digital is the new thing and every company is going with it. AMC Cinemark, Rave , all of them so get with the times
Finally, somebody makes sense. 35 is soooo over. If 35 is so superior, then why do the Digital Intermediate? and besides all movies projected on 35mm came from 2k files anyway. So... all this anti-digital sentiment in my opinion is somewhat elitist.
I have a fondness for 35mm but no doubt I'm all about technology making things better. I myself have blu-ray player & a digital projector that has an outstanding picture & yes without scratches & dust it looks way better than film. I have 16mm & 35mm stuff as well so I can easily compare. I have yet to see a digitally projected film at a theater the ones here are not digital yet. So your saying that all the new releases are copied from 2k files?
I have never heard that b4. I'd think it would be slow to print hi res to film instead of just copying them super fast the old fashioned way. Which reduces quality as well because of movement in the gate. Or is it that they print a "master" copy & then make dups of that print. Wondering I'm always curious to learn about new stuff. But also I enjoy seeing how old stuff worked "see my youtube page" But yea films on it's way out & it doesn't bother me too much. Wonder what k didital will top out at
@catnip20 All films are scanned at 2k, cleaned up, color corrected and that goes into bluray, digital theaters or printed back to 35mm, it's been the norm since 2003
@alecton Finally someone else makes sense. 35 is just as "cold" as digital. If it's not ones and zeros, it's chemicals. Digital has come a long way in just 10 years. And Digital is saving 35mm ass with frame cleanup, color correction, chroma key and even restoration. If it weren't for digital, DVDs and Bluray wouldn't exist.
In case you haven't noticed, all films you see in the theater were edited DIGITALLY in 2k. If you actually let 35mm be what it actually is, you'd see opaque colors, overbearing grainy pictures, and dust and scratches, even hairs caught in the filmgate when the movie was being filmed. There are no more pure 35mm movies anymore, they are all more digital than Episode II.
Thats a little harsh, A lot of projectionist consider it to be an art form to skillfully run change overs & properly examine & build up prints. Digital will probably take over sadly due to ease of use & no real training to run the equipment. But when I finally get a 35mm projector I'll be happily watching Final Destination on film!
I saw Star Wars Episode II four times in digital. The experience and quality was absolutly amazing. Why don't more theatres have digital projectors? It sounds like this company knows the business. Thank you Christie for giving us Digital Cinema.
After doing a little bit of research, the way I understand it is that TI provides the DLP chip and Christie manufactures the projector, much like Intel provides a chip to Dell or IBM. There seems to be a lot going on in a projector: software, electronics, optics, mechanical things etc. that goes well beyond what TI produces. Similarly, if Intel sold you a chip, it wouldn't be particularly impressive without the rest of the computer.
I completely agree, WE NEED MORE DIGITAL THEATERS, I hate it when they run ads saying: "Piracy is evil and degrades the image quality" but when I sit in the theater with that grainy image I think to myself... WHO ARE THEY KIDDING? I'd rather download a digital movie than keep paying a lot of money for battered 35mm prints.
@alecton 35MM WILL ALWAYS REMAIN AS the bets way to make cinema...it's more expensive, but it is tru art and the image is spectacular....digital is not art..is a bunch of numbers interpreted by a computer

@JohnMGilbert Film decays from day 1 and visibly changes the image in two weeks. Whatever, it's not like you make a living out of it.

digital cinema just isn't up to scratch in terms of quality compared to 35mm & 70mm film.
Digital Cinema is good for small screens, but larger ones nope!!
