  • WOW!!! this is just as good as what sarah chang played. I really love this piece ever since i first found out from a book. I wonder how you cross the strings without the scratching sound?

  • @KwonJiyong33 That one had a mix of strings on it. If I remember right it had Infield Red G & A, Zyex D and a Goldblatt E. Usually start with Infield Reds or Blues and swap strings to get it sounding the best I can before shipping it out.

  • that is so cool!! does the color affect the sound at all?

  • @smiles4teamedward The "color" on this one is the weave of the top layer of Carbon fiber. I have used several different top layers and with a little tweaking on the inside, the sound is consistent. I am making a red one next.

  • @ReardonViolins sounds awesome!!! There is a girl at my school who has a pink viola!! My teacher said they didnt put the paint on properly so it affects the sound wierd huh?

  • I would LOVE to buy one of these just to have it for traveling too keep it safe.

  • @colt413 I have got to post some durability clips of these. Tough doesn't cover it! Bug me everyonce in a while until I post some test videos.

  • @colt413 You can contact me at RochonViolins@aol(dot)com and order one.

  • @KwonJiyong33 -- this awsome violin was sent to us by Stuart Rochon at Rochon Violins ~~rochonviolins(dot) com ~~ one of two that he was generous enough to let us try out just for fun. write to him and ask him about the strings-- we were having such a great time trying out this instrument that we never looked at the strings.

  • This has defiantly inspired me to continue learning to play my violin :D

  • @nani159753 -- hey thats great :)

  • sounds beautiful, i love it

  • @captainshadowdreamer -- thanks...its a really great instrument...it really sings :)

  • lol I thought was a violin covered in strips of duct tape XD

  • @xilent234 -- hey a girl in our high school made her prom dress out of duct tape, lol...it was kinda cool, too. i can see how it looks a little like that :)

  • @eboyinc wow that's awesome! :)

  • Where do your get the score for all these music?

  • @MegaShadowPhantom -- well, we've bought alot of music over the years that we've been studying, and sometimes our orchestra teacher will pass something along to us that he things we'd be interested in playing...and some we download from the internet. you can see some of our duets, solo concertos, orchestral performances...and bloopers...on our personal youtube channel ~~ Musicasa2ndLanguage ~~

  • When you use your next violin you should sample The Violin Concerto (Op. 36) by Arnold Schoenberg it is the best concherto i have ever heard

  • My favorite violin piece, and you play it beautifully!

  • @ricaard -- hey thanks...one of my favorites too :)

  • @eboyinc Thank YOU! This is high on my list of pieces to learn, and having the camera up so close REALLY helps...

  • Looks like you rescued it from a barbeque...but actually sounds ok!

  • Hello! The sound, warmth and of course the interpretation of this instrument from you are great

    A big hug! and congratulations

  • This would be the ideal fiddle to play in gigs and jam sessions out in the elements that would be hazardous to a fine wooden instrument. Also for a modern country or rock band, looks cool, too. The sound seems to be rich and full even in the upper register with good volume, not thin and wimpy as would be expected from synthetic materials. These carbon fiber composites have already proven themselves in many types of musical instruments in terms of sound quality, stability, and durability.

  • finally after watching many of your vids (trying to figure out how to play - im very new to this) i saw your face, gosh, your boyfriend should be the lucky man :P

  • What gets me, is every recording i find for these instruments, the carbon fiber ones tend to be much cleaner in their tone and recording ability. My question is it possible to make tubes for larger instruments with Carbon fiber?

  • @bradn7 What kind of tubes? I am attempting to make a travel fiddle with a tapered tube body, kind of like the pochette. Ping me on here or at Rochonviolins(at)aol(dot)com. Always interested in what people are thinking.

  • @ReardonViolins I am trying to find out if it is possible to make trumpets for instance. Make all the tubing out of Carbon fiber, and then still using metal valves and caps and so on. But make the bell and tubes from the carbon fiber. Eventually if that is possible I think it would be interesting to make a french horn and eventually bigger and bigger instruments.

  • @bradn7 I have heard of a Tuba bell made of Carbon fiber. It is possible to make wind instruments from CF but no one is doing it that I am aware of. Are you looking for a Hobby? I am planning on going after the harp and piano after I get a few more bowed instruments down. Imagine a piano without the big iron frame, a grand you can walk under and pick up to move. Or a marching harp. :-)

  • Beautiful piece to play thank you for the sample, you did an amazing job and I hope to play as well as you one day =) May you continue to grow and your playing continue to improve.

  • nmm. Maybe one day plastic and carbon fiber will solve the old growth forest problem. I don't know how many more 300 year old trees we can keep cutting down to make good sounding violins. :D

  • Even if it's overplayed I still don't get why anyone would hate this concerto for that reason only. It's one of the greatest ever written. :) Oh And thank you for this video. I started working on this concerto last week. Now I can write in all the positions into my music. :D I heard that you started performing. That really is wonderful news to hear. :D

  • It's amazing to hear carbon fiber violins. They are a wonder to me and, for the price, they just sound fantastic. Plus, they're aesthetically very appealing. :D

  • @masael255 -- they're amazing...one of these days :)

  • Wow, this is truly amazing! I never knew there were such things as violins built with alternate materials until my father showed me today. A carbon fiber violin is a wonderful idea. I wish I could get one, but I can't afford it atm. Maybe one day.

BTW, you can really play the hell out of that thing :D

  • @andrewecko -- hi, glad you checked out the video. this was sent by the maker for me and my brother to try out...and in fact, a new model is on its way and we should be posting new sound samples of Mr. Rochon's latest carbon fiber violin in a week or two. makers have been experimenting on form and structure, including materials for a long time. we've seen aluminum, steel, plastic, lots of different kids of woods, etc...even glass.

  • Fierce and bold!!

I Currently Use a carbon bow... however I've never seen a carbon violin in my life till just now, It sounds beautiful just as your playing is! Thank you for the sound sample!!

  • @drag0nsknight -- thanks...glad you liked it. the maker, stuart rochon just told me that he's going to send me the latest version of his amazing carbon fiber violin to try out. check back, i'll post a sound sample of it soon :)

  • i was getting bored till 00:30 holy shit that was some fast playing

  • @RGVdestruction -- glad you liked it :)

  • I don´t know but it sounds like if the sound were clearer...wonderful :) I wish I could play like you one day ;)

  • @musicsmine219 -- hi, thanks for your comment. i agree...this violin had a beautiful, clear voice...really a terrific violin and totally fun to play!

  • Who is the maker? Where can I get one?

  • @ussenterprisecaptian -- Thanks to Rochon Violins!!! You can find out more about these amazing violins on the ROCHON VIOLIN Website: rochonviolins (dot ) com

  • @eboyinc thank you. now what would you say this instrument is comparable to? Tonal quality wise.

  • I was so surprised! The tone of this violin is absolutely amazing!

    Beautiful playing as well.

  • @burtslug246 -- thanks...its a really cool violin. i loved trying it out.

  • lovin the violin

  • @sourpatchgirl4ever -- me too. the maker is sending me another to try out...i'll hopefully post a sound sample of that one in a month or so.

  • Wow!This violin is great and Mendelssohn is my favourite composer...

  • @VivaldiLucio --- one of my favorite composers too...the violin is totally awsome :)

  • @eboyinc hey again eboyinc tried the tip and it is going swell i love your rendition of this concerto. Good luck!

  • @JPLGaGa123 -- glad it helped :)

  • @mhewmw -- thanks...glad you liked it!!!

  • I loved it, and the sound of the violin is so cool.

  • @025JAB -- i totally agree...its a very cool violin...

  • QUE VIOLINO BONITO XD

  • @priscilahd -- si, tambien satisfacia para que toque :)

  • this is excellent. going into my favorites.

  • @hohnerlad -- whoa, thanks...glad you liked it. its a really cool violin :)

  • Good *___*

  • @MiyShirayukiCham -- thanks...its a really cool violin :)

  • I tried the site but couldn't find info on prices. Anybody knows how much these go for? This violin must have a powerful sound. It's really nice that people experiment with new materials. I've heard of an other material NASA uses that is made with perfect hexagons. I wonder how would that sound.

  • @douskara $1500 is what I am selling the 4 strings for, a 5 strings cost a little more.

  • One of my favorite pieces! :D Also I'm shocked that a carbon fiber violin sounds so damn good! I'd love to try one out.

  • @ker246 send me an message either here or on facebook and I will getyou on the schedule. :-)

  • Fantastic Performance can you make a complete video where you play the vocalise by rachmainoff with your own violin??

  • Awesome! Would the violin be alright even in cold and rain?

  • @VirtuosoInTheMaking Yep, it is good for as cold as you want to put up with. The rosin will quit grabbing before the violin even notices. Rain would effect the tailpiece and the bridge on this one but I do make a CF bridge and tailpiece and then it can be used as a paddle if you are up a creek without one, and play when you get to your destination. :-)

  • Its great to hear you playing again! Where have you been??

  • Great playing but the piece is awful... Nonsense even.... or am I just uneducated?

  • Fantastic performance! What camera do you use to record your playing?

  • Bravo!

  • @Gloomex -- thanks :)

  • that's for sure ONE OF YOUR BEST performances in the whole series! don't you find that a decent reliable tone from the instrument gives a lot of freedom and encourages to perfect? =)

  • @assa123assa123 -- whoa, thanks! i totally agree :)

  • @assa123assa123 -- whoa, thanks...i totally agree about the value of a violin that provides you with good, reliable tone :)

  • mi violin favorito :) bueno uno de mis favoritos :) son geniales

  • First long vid!! Thanks it's long and sweet :))

Speaking of the carbon violin I think it's got a sharper tone than regular ones

the fingerboard is made of wood right?

  • @ssc70402 nope the fingerboard is CF too. The bridge is wood and the tailpiece but that is all the wood in it. The CF bridge is in the case and definitely changes the flavor of the tone. I have made CF tailpieces but it is a hard thing to get right. :-) The Soundpost is even CF.

  • Well Played, get your brother to turn pages for ya he owes you that much for getting to go first. :-)

  • @ReardonViolins -- hi...i was just abouit to email you to let you know i posted this. i'll tell my brother that you suggested it...i did ask him, but he has that competitive sibling thing going on lately and told me that i should still be able to do it from memory from three years ago. maybe he's right? lol :)

  • Impressionant !

  • is there much difference between carbon fibre violins?

  • @ChrisRokers -- well, yes and no. that's a tough question as in a way, the whole purpose of our channel is to point out that there are differences between most every violin. this is a powerful violin, thats for sure.

  • Absolutely amazing. Always amazing to hear a full work by either of you. You surely did this instrument justice...or perhaps it's the other way around. And the cadenza was just perfect! Astounding. By the by, I see you have adopted a new bow; a carbon fiber, perhaps? Either that or the light is just REALLY making it look as if it is black. What kind are you using, if I may ask?

  • @masael255 -- hi antonio...thanks...i used the carbon fiber bow (coda) just for fun...thought it be a good match for the violin. the violin is a dark silvery gray...almost black. very cool looking and tons of fun to play. check out rochon violins website to see these violins under construction. they also have some other nice sound samples. nice to hear from you...hope school is going well :)

  • wow that was great just beautiful ^_^

  • @vraver -- hey thanks so much :)

  • now i got to get out my violin and play and play this

  • @FERViolin2010 -- are you at UM? UF?

  • @eboyinc UF

  • @FERViolin2010 -- my bro and i are looking at schools...frost was just in our area recruiting...UofF is an awsome school.

  • @eboyinc UM i think has the better music program then UF but u should try sending in a video audition to some music schools in NY, they got GOOD music schools there trust me, im think of transferring up there maybe Columbia of something

  • @eboyinc i was to late to apply to UM, plus i had to pay for the audition lol not happening

  • lol page turns lol but nice video love the violin

  • @FERViolin2010 -- i performed this with orchestra about three years ago, but hadn't played it since then so i had to pull out the sheet music...the turns are at natural orchestral breaks. the violin is amazing :)

  • Soo cool man! I rate and subbed!

  • @ElectronicBoy11 -- hey thanks...glad you did :)

  • @eboyinc i dont see a diference on a carbon fiber violin and a handmade wood violin
