WOW!!! this is just as good as what sarah chang played. I really love this piece ever since i first found out from a book. I wonder how you cross the strings without the scratching sound?
@KwonJiyong33 That one had a mix of strings on it. If I remember right it had Infield Red G & A, Zyex D and a Goldblatt E. Usually start with Infield Reds or Blues and swap strings to get it sounding the best I can before shipping it out.
@smiles4teamedward The "color" on this one is the weave of the top layer of Carbon fiber. I have used several different top layers and with a little tweaking on the inside, the sound is consistent. I am making a red one next.
@ReardonViolins sounds awesome!!! There is a girl at my school who has a pink viola!! My teacher said they didnt put the paint on properly so it affects the sound wierd huh?
@KwonJiyong33 -- this awsome violin was sent to us by Stuart Rochon at Rochon Violins ~~rochonviolins(dot) com ~~ one of two that he was generous enough to let us try out just for fun. write to him and ask him about the strings-- we were having such a great time trying out this instrument that we never looked at the strings.
@xilent234 -- hey a girl in our high school made her prom dress out of duct tape, lol...it was kinda cool, too. i can see how it looks a little like that :)
@MegaShadowPhantom -- well, we've bought alot of music over the years that we've been studying, and sometimes our orchestra teacher will pass something along to us that he things we'd be interested in playing...and some we download from the internet. you can see some of our duets, solo concertos, orchestral performances...and bloopers...on our personal youtube channel ~~ Musicasa2ndLanguage ~~
This would be the ideal fiddle to play in gigs and jam sessions out in the elements that would be hazardous to a fine wooden instrument. Also for a modern country or rock band, looks cool, too. The sound seems to be rich and full even in the upper register with good volume, not thin and wimpy as would be expected from synthetic materials. These carbon fiber composites have already proven themselves in many types of musical instruments in terms of sound quality, stability, and durability.
finally after watching many of your vids (trying to figure out how to play - im very new to this) i saw your face, gosh, your boyfriend should be the lucky man :P
What gets me, is every recording i find for these instruments, the carbon fiber ones tend to be much cleaner in their tone and recording ability. My question is it possible to make tubes for larger instruments with Carbon fiber?
@bradn7 What kind of tubes? I am attempting to make a travel fiddle with a tapered tube body, kind of like the pochette. Ping me on here or at Rochonviolins(at)aol(dot)com. Always interested in what people are thinking.
@ReardonViolins I am trying to find out if it is possible to make trumpets for instance. Make all the tubing out of Carbon fiber, and then still using metal valves and caps and so on. But make the bell and tubes from the carbon fiber. Eventually if that is possible I think it would be interesting to make a french horn and eventually bigger and bigger instruments.
@bradn7 I have heard of a Tuba bell made of Carbon fiber. It is possible to make wind instruments from CF but no one is doing it that I am aware of. Are you looking for a Hobby? I am planning on going after the harp and piano after I get a few more bowed instruments down. Imagine a piano without the big iron frame, a grand you can walk under and pick up to move. Or a marching harp. :-)
Beautiful piece to play thank you for the sample, you did an amazing job and I hope to play as well as you one day =) May you continue to grow and your playing continue to improve.
nmm. Maybe one day plastic and carbon fiber will solve the old growth forest problem. I don't know how many more 300 year old trees we can keep cutting down to make good sounding violins. :D
Even if it's overplayed I still don't get why anyone would hate this concerto for that reason only. It's one of the greatest ever written. :) Oh And thank you for this video. I started working on this concerto last week. Now I can write in all the positions into my music. :D I heard that you started performing. That really is wonderful news to hear. :D
It's amazing to hear carbon fiber violins. They are a wonder to me and, for the price, they just sound fantastic. Plus, they're aesthetically very appealing. :D
Wow, this is truly amazing! I never knew there were such things as violins built with alternate materials until my father showed me today. A carbon fiber violin is a wonderful idea. I wish I could get one, but I can't afford it atm. Maybe one day.
BTW, you can really play the hell out of that thing :D
@andrewecko -- hi, glad you checked out the video. this was sent by the maker for me and my brother to try out...and in fact, a new model is on its way and we should be posting new sound samples of Mr. Rochon's latest carbon fiber violin in a week or two. makers have been experimenting on form and structure, including materials for a long time. we've seen aluminum, steel, plastic, lots of different kids of woods, etc...even glass.
I Currently Use a carbon bow... however I've never seen a carbon violin in my life till just now, It sounds beautiful just as your playing is! Thank you for the sound sample!!
@drag0nsknight -- thanks...glad you liked it. the maker, stuart rochon just told me that he's going to send me the latest version of his amazing carbon fiber violin to try out. check back, i'll post a sound sample of it soon :)
@ussenterprisecaptian -- Thanks to Rochon Violins!!! You can find out more about these amazing violins on the ROCHON VIOLIN Website: rochonviolins (dot ) com
I tried the site but couldn't find info on prices. Anybody knows how much these go for? This violin must have a powerful sound. It's really nice that people experiment with new materials. I've heard of an other material NASA uses that is made with perfect hexagons. I wonder how would that sound.
@VirtuosoInTheMaking Yep, it is good for as cold as you want to put up with. The rosin will quit grabbing before the violin even notices. Rain would effect the tailpiece and the bridge on this one but I do make a CF bridge and tailpiece and then it can be used as a paddle if you are up a creek without one, and play when you get to your destination. :-)
that's for sure ONE OF YOUR BEST performances in the whole series! don't you find that a decent reliable tone from the instrument gives a lot of freedom and encourages to perfect? =)
@ssc70402 nope the fingerboard is CF too. The bridge is wood and the tailpiece but that is all the wood in it. The CF bridge is in the case and definitely changes the flavor of the tone. I have made CF tailpieces but it is a hard thing to get right. :-) The Soundpost is even CF.
@ReardonViolins -- hi...i was just abouit to email you to let you know i posted this. i'll tell my brother that you suggested it...i did ask him, but he has that competitive sibling thing going on lately and told me that i should still be able to do it from memory from three years ago. maybe he's right? lol :)
@ChrisRokers -- well, yes and no. that's a tough question as in a way, the whole purpose of our channel is to point out that there are differences between most every violin. this is a powerful violin, thats for sure.
Absolutely amazing. Always amazing to hear a full work by either of you. You surely did this instrument justice...or perhaps it's the other way around. And the cadenza was just perfect! Astounding. By the by, I see you have adopted a new bow; a carbon fiber, perhaps? Either that or the light is just REALLY making it look as if it is black. What kind are you using, if I may ask?
@masael255 -- hi antonio...thanks...i used the carbon fiber bow (coda) just for fun...thought it be a good match for the violin. the violin is a dark silvery gray...almost black. very cool looking and tons of fun to play. check out rochon violins website to see these violins under construction. they also have some other nice sound samples. nice to hear from you...hope school is going well :)
