The point of the Mega Pixel is that it has individual control of each block of LEDS through a DMX controller, the colorstrip only can change the color of the entire fixture, red, green, or blue, all blocks of LEDs are turned on and off at the same time. So, if you really want to be able to control the brightness of the light, u need the mega pixel so u can activate less blocks for less light. MP is More customizable for light shows.
Someone had mentioned that this fixture had a "Knight Rider" chase/scanning effect. Is this true? If so, is there video of it anywhere? Thanks in advance.
@produkshunhowse : I don't recall seeing a Knight Rider chase, but there's one that's a bit more like a run way chase if you get my meaning. However, you should be able to program a Knight Rider chase usinig a DMX control pretty easy.
@sleeperawaken36 Thanks sleeperwaken. I know the DMX protocol relatively well, but I think to duplicate the desired effect with trailing fade may prove to be tedious. I'll have to look into it more. Also, I haven't yet found a price for this unit. Any ideas of MSRP?
@produkshunhowse: Pssl, Guitar Center, Musiciansfriend, among many others have it. Google for Chauvet Colorstrip and it will pop up everywhere. Price looks to be $229 going rate. Or you can try Ebay for a better deal.
@produkshunhowse I just picked up a pair of these (the big ones) for $155 each at Amazon. Look around and you can catch them on sale. Musiciansfriend currently has the Diamondstrip (all white leds) on sale for $159.
Hey man..i think its SUPER silly to pay for the product and then put tint over it..BUT its an option if you dont want it to be SOOOO bright. I know this isnt yours..but ya know...in the future if thats what you wanna do! :)
@BCEntertainmentLive : I think it's silly to comment when you don't understand the issue. The idea is more about diffusing & blending the light, than dimming it. If you can do something to make a fixture you purchased better, why not do it? I think it would be super silly to be like, "I could do this to make this light I bought better, but since I paid for it, I'll just live with it like it is, rather than making it better"... what? But do what you wanna do....
@sleeperawaken36 Oh wow..NO OFFENSE TAKEN..definetly left that option open for you and your friend (whatever) to do what youd like. Didnt say you had to do anything..or for that matter didnt DIRECTLY say anything TOWARDS you. Im speaking in general! Its MY OPINION, you made a video FOR COMMENTS so i left one and many others did as well! If you cant take other peoples opinions you should probably not post on youtube. Im actually one of the friendlier ones.
@muckypops : so if you wanted a softer, more blended effect for your particular application, it would be silly to dim the light with a filter? If you want it at full strength, then sure, it would be silly to put a filter on the light. I think it's silly for people to make comments on something without reading or understanding what they are commenting on. The in some cases the point might be to dim the light, mostly I think it is to soften and blend the light better, for those that prefer.
@muckypops : So if you were using colorstrips for uplighting walls, and thought it would be nice to have the light output more blended on the wall, would it be silly to put a filter on it to soften and blend the light more? Or would you just say, "whatever, I'll not lift a finger to make it better"... which is fine, but for those who have an application where they would like to blend it more, it's a good idea. For someone to blindly make a comment about it being "Silly", is just silly...
@chauvetlighting: Thanks for the clarification, and straight from Chauvet :) I should probably go back through this vid and add a few pop ups with updated information.
Great light! I run 4 of them linked in pairs! Puts off a great wash! And kids dig them! No heat, super low power. I easly replaced 8 par 56's and controllers with these!
I may be wrong on this, so correct me if I am... If you use a controller with this fixture you can lower the brightness. In RGB mode you can adjust the percentage of each color. It will be a little more tricky to do this while on chase or color change mode, but I believe it can be done. Or, you could always do it the inexpensive way and buy a sheet of Rosco Diffusion.
@metome142: I didn't think you could dim the Colorstrip, controller or no controller, but maybe I'm wrong. I know you can dim the ADJ Mega Pixel, but I've never had a colorstrip connected to a DMX controller, but was told they can't be dimmed. That's great if they can be dimmed :)
This is a confusing thing. I had the first guy at Guitar Center dim it for me. Then I came back a few weeks later and a different guy said that it can not be dimmed. I am almost 100% sure that I saw the first guy dim it for me. I plan on going to Guitar Center this weekend and getting a definite answer.
I recently received 10 colorstrips. You can dim them with the controller (since you can do RGB color mixing i.e.: R-50%, G-30%, B-10%). However, you cannot dim the chases and color changes. Standalone mode has no dimming capabilities except for the slow color changes...
I mount it using two 360 clamps, which provides enough room/clearance when mounting on top to mount other lights below it if on a T-bar. I've also seen people mount them vertically on the stand, but that would create a pretty narrow horizontal dispersion so you'd want to have two of them on stands if you did it that way.
I have 2 Chauvet color palettes and they are the same way. Mine have a thin sheet of plexi on the front. I saw another video where they used 5% window film to defuse the light and they work alot better. I will try this in about 2 week then post a review.
Good review Brady, glad to see another vid from you (one of the old timers here on youtube). Lol thats funny to say but you were one of my first subscribers back in the day and its just cool to be able to look back a couple years ago and see how things have changed since. Lol, sorry for remenicing. Hope to see more.
I would have agreed 3 years ago with you completely, but I've had some experience with ADJ cutomer service and it's been spot on, and have also had friends who have had similar good experiences. They even helped me get parts for a product that wasn't there product!
Hey if you guys could only bring one party light to a house party which one would you bring?

To lay to rest the questions. The COLORstrip, and DIAMONDstrip family's are 100% dimmable when in DMX mode. The stand alone chases are not dimable.

This fixture is dimmable 0-100 % with a DMX controller. Check the manual.
