I would love to try this as I love Math and would love to improve my reading as well. By the way, is this exercise limited to four digits only? I mean, can this exercise be improved by increasing the numbers in the exercise overtime? Especially if this exercise becomes too easy. Will try this out though.
If my native language IS NOT english but I am having speed reading exercises in english....Is it possible to increase the speed reading in my native lang?
All the software I can find are in english...Should I try them or they won't be that effective in this case?
@alikara91 The way our brain receives and processes visual stimuli to create language is identical for all languages; except those that use an ideographic writing system (I read this in an omniglot article on Chinese characters), like Mandarin. If this works for English, it should work for French, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Bahasa Indonesia and so forth. As for Chinese and Japanese, I just don't know.
This is a very intresting technique!! helps eye muscles and visual brain areas how to work faster than usual.!. Yes, this works for any language because it is about how to make the eye muscles and the brain more skillful and faster.
Hay Math, I have a question for you? Using a "guide" like a pencil makes you read faster, like Buzan says? It really keeps you more focus and makes you read faster?
one of my friends took a speed reading course and got up to 1000 wpm with 90% retention (he could take a simple test after reading a passage at that speed and get 90% of the questions right)

I would like to believe speedreading works out. However, reason tells me it is impossible.
This might work with fiction literature but not with hard science books. It is impossible to read a book about biochemistry, physics or discrete mathematics employing this technique. You might read it like that but you wouldn't be able to answer questions concerning the matter.
man i wish i had learned all of these reading methods when i when i was 4. Imagine how smart people would be now if they had learned to speed read at an early age.
Well, in fact it's quite the oposite I think. In a videogame you are following a moving target, here you train to move fast from a still target to another still target. In a book targets are not moving.
But if you can provide ideas which work, please, go ahead and share them.
he said there will be a slight difference... and if u want to read faster just like when your playing guitar u would want to know more than one technique and do mroe than one technique... although not at the same time sometimes
Well people, i think i can do some speedreading, but there's a problem with it: namely i feel that it is somehow connected with the way i breathe, i.e. when i start scanning or speedreading i always reach to a point when i stop breathing and certainly there comes a signal to my brain and after that i loose my concentration and focus and retun to my normal speed of reading...i donnow whether i could explain...and another thing is blinking...this thing also somehow slows my speed...
I've began to take an interest in this subject quite recently and would just like to comment on your losing breath by adding that I too experience the same thing. Perhaps that is the result of trying to oppress your pharynx? I've no idea, but I read at somewhere around 350 words per minute if I say the words in my head, and much faster with less comprehension when I try to do so without saying anything or making some kind of null for me to use to not say the words (lack of breath, etc).
Will Kris you have done a great job brilliant, i appreciate it !
I would just like to ask that what is your opinion if we follow these rules roughly in how long we can improve the speed according to your understanding? Weeks, Months or Years?
Thank you , a very good video . You saved me 200 $ , I was getting started to apply for this kind school "fast reader" or something I will practis it and I hoppe for the best .
Will this work with any language? I'm a pretty fast reader when it comes to our normal alphabet, but I've been studying Japanese for 6 months now and I finally know the first 2 alphabets. We're looking at *about* 204 signs, depending on the combinations.
Do you think something can be done to increase my speed in japanese? Maybe not for this technique, but your other videos.
That's a great question. Honestly, I've only studied my methods with the English language. With a different language, I would think that the same rules would apply. The goal of my speed reading exercises is for reading to become visual rather than auditory, so for a language that is based on visual pictures I would think speed reading would apply that much more, but I don't know for sure, you'll have to let me know how it goes.
Thanks for responding so fast, and I'll have to look up on it. Like I said, a new language might take time and I've only been studying for half a school year. I'll put this vid into my favourites and I'll reply whenever I notice a difference. Once again thanks for the vid. Things like this helps me alot since I always try to be best at whatever language I learn.
NOTE: You can also read numbers and letters up-side-down! Try to read a text from a newspaper or a book up-side-down. With a little practice, you will be able to read it... sitting in a train, and read the newspaper from your neighbor... :-)
Both videos are excellent. Thanks. I've been doing speed reading for several years now, but need to keep practicing to keep my skills up. Your exercises are new to me and are quite helpful.

If you want to speed read go to a course.
I went on one that had a 2 hours every working day for a week and by the time I was finished I could read 857 words per minute.
Really!!!
This example in the video is only a warm up.
You aren't going to read any faster by going 1234 4321 4231...
It's just a warm up.

Probably you are a retard.. well, that is an option.... Because if you exercise a muscle, you must see a result.

Maybe It doesn't work because my eyes are already strong. I was training them not by moving them, but by puting some barbells on it.
