i think the reson he hides his face is because his dad (the white fang of the leaf) committed suisicde after being ridiculed for saving hit team mates instead of compleating the mission, and kakashi (when he was a kid) was scared of being ridiculed as well so he hid his face, now that he's older its just a force of habit.
