  • Just seen them on TV and brought back the memories, was my mothers favorite of all. She totally loved these guys, They came to Joplin MO. I believe in early 90's and I told a friend of mine I had to take my momma, she was on cloud 9. She has since passed, It bring me joy that I have that memory of her with that gleam in her eyes all evening.

  • yeah!!!

statler´s, they are just one of the best!!!!

  • They were a class act, when jimmy stepped in, not one beat was missed. Harold designed all thier suits. Call them horrid if you want, i think they are classy. Simply the best to ever hold a microphone. Thank You Statlers for giving us and the Country you lived in and loved your best for nearly 40 years.

  • Sure, Bob, lots of differences. They're older in the other video, and of course, Lew was still the tenor in this one (later replaced by Jimmy Fortune). But they have always been a sensational group, from their beginnings in Gospel, through they rock and roll years (Flowers on the Wall) all the way to their wistful nostalgia. Thanks so much for posting. LOVE these guys!

  • The Statlers were a pleasant anomaly...they patterned themselves after a typical southern gospel quartet, yet they did not sing the normal parts of a typical southern gospel quartet. Harold was a baritone covering a higher-than-normal bass range; both Phil and Lew sang tenor, and with Don singing lead, there was no true baritone in the group.

If it hadn't been for the characteristics of their voices and their incredibly smooth blend, it probably wouldn't have worked. But for them, it did.

  • i knew id love this song from the very first line, it makes me laugh as well, such a happy song :) love it!! xx

  • Mustangman, I believe this to be the closing number of the last episode of their Variety Show.

  • We are losing so many great singers and so few are taking there place.

  • goood song

  • BOB FORDD?

  • Anyone know when this video is from? It's obviously late 70's because of Lew, but I'd still like to know when it's from.

  • @mr69mustangman1 I believe it to be from the last episode of thier Variety Show. They did this number a few times on that show. But the costumes i believe were from the last show.

  • They are so good we can forgive them for those horrid 70s bellbottoms....

  • excellent

  • איזה ביצוע מדהים!!!

  • My dad died listening to this 4 years ago-- my mom, my brother and I were next to him. Cancer could only take his body, but I feel like he is next to me when I listen to this song.

I love you, Dad! Thank you for making the Statler Brothers a part of my life when I was younger and now they are a link to you! I love you, Dad!

  • jimmy was good but he was no lew. but i really think that they could not find a better replacement than jimmy.

  • @99sco True he was no Lew He was Jimmy a much bettersinger

  • There are no better than the Statler's No one does better harmony than the Staler Brothers do. I sure do miss them.

  • The Statlers cared about the fans... the so called stars of today don't give a crap where their paycheck come from

  • Hey, do you happen to know the Statler Brothers' quiz song? I've looked high and low for it, but I must not be searching for the right title or something. Just looking for a little help. :) I've about worn out the tape we have of it.

  • Today, 20 years ago we lost one of the most beautiful voices ever...We'll miss you Lew DeWitt....you were something special

  • Awsome the Statler brothers sing in Harmony!

I always love listen to their music!

  • They were quite simply the best ever. I count myself fortunate to have seen them in concert that one time. WOW! What a night!

  • just great fun to watch the Statlers. great

  • Great music!!! Love you guys

  • I love the song! I wonder how many days we wake up and are just thankful. Just thankful of the fact we have been given another day in this world to make a difference. Kno I am constantly greatful! This world has been a blast and I'm going out shouting!

  • the statlers are the best of the groups from early country

  • Forget the gold in Ft. Knox. You're listening to our real national treasure.

  • God, I miss these guys! Thank you World, for letting them contribute to the cause! Great post!

  • statler brothers are the best i really love all of their songs lew harold phil don and jimmy are number1

  • great song i wish they would have a reunion tour

  • Lew was the best tenor ever. RIP Lew

  • I was proud to be part of their Fan club here in Canada and seeing them in concert and watching their T.v show on TNN and having some of their Cd's I Love The Statler Brothers..

  • That is when they did not have jimmy yet but Lew was still singing with them. They still sounded good then too

  • great song and group i miss them

  • the best vocal group ever

  • Has it occurred to anyone that the original lyrics may have been different, and more religious. The lyrics make more sense if they were "Thank you Lord" rather than "Thank you World".

  • I know it says "Thank you world"-- but don't they occasionally say, "Thank you, Lord"? I sing it that way all the time!

  • I've never heard them say "Thank you Lord", but I suspect when they wrote the lyrics that it was there.

BTW, Don Reid has recently posted his own video on YouTube. It's delightful, and his wife, Deb, is truly charming. Check it out and you'll find that Thank you Lord" may well have been what he/they wrote.

  • one of my two fav Stat songs. O Love To

Sing so this song really speaks to me

  • awesome song from an awesome groupthanks

  • My dad died on his birthday, Nov. 2, 2006. My mom didn't know why I bothered with a present, he was going. I bought a SB CD with this on it. He died listening to this and there was a riderless horse procession 2 months later where this was played. For some reason I miss him and there is no real reason. I'm in my 40's, not . Thank you Statler Brothers. I can feel close to my dad listening to this song. I MISS YOU, DAD! I LOVE YOU!

  • I meant to say that I'm in my 40's now. I'm not a kid. I love how music can put us back. I would swear that I'd never listen to the Statler Brothers when I grew up and now there are times that I just have to play them. I wonder if he is dropping in to check in on his grand kids when I have the urge to play their music. :)

  • @DancingFalcons I am a great fan of the statlers. My dad was also a very big fan. he was fortune to get to meet them in person. My dad passed away in april 2006. I also find my self listening to the statler and thinking about him. always remember. Ginger Wheeler

  • Thanks, Ginger! Great minds think alike!

  • i was fair manager in 1974 when we hired the statlers for $7,500. In about 1980 we had them back and their gross was $60,000

  • love this video all the statler brothers are great but lew is my favorite .what a voice!!!!

  • love the statlers they are the greatest

  • I love The Statler Brothers. I grew up listening to them, they're my dads favorite. I'm 15 and I absolutly love them. And Lew Dewitt's voice was amazing. I prefer him over Mr. Fortune anyday, and Jimmy Fortune is really good.

  • Same here, I'm glad someone my age likes them too. (I'm 14)

  • yes me too

i live in austria and nobody likes them here...just me....they are just great

and i love every song of them

  • these guys were masters of their art ! 4 very different voices but together as catchy as herpes . great showmen too , shame about the fashion crimes

  • The reason they stand opposite of conventional quartets (Oak Ridge Boys) is the fact that Lew DeWitt played guitar.

    Wicked cool, though.

  • FYI, Duane Allen of the Oaks is quite a good guitarist himself. Joe Bonsall plays a bit of banjo too. But it sure is hard to beat some of the classic Statler Brothers great music.

  • There is nothing "conventional" about the Oaks. They may be the most diverse singing group ever!

  • The Oak Ridge Boys were (are) a very good group. BUT in no way will they every be remembered as good as the Statler Brothers. the Statlers paved the way for groups like them and Alabama to have great careers. Have the Oaks retired from touring yet?

  • I agree the Statlers helped "pave the way" for groups like them but whether or not the oaks will be remebered as good as the statlers is up to the individual thinking about their careers! Don't get me wrong, I love the statlers music but to say the oaks are conventional is just being under educated about the oaks music. I have a LARGE music collection by both groups. But if you want to get into multiple sounds, styles, etc of both groups, the oaks, no doubt, have more versatility!

  • I love the Statlers. We went thru the museum a

few years ago,and saw the school in they attended it was so special. They were my mothers favorite singing group .We sure miss them.So glad I found this site.

  • these oldies are better than pop and rock. i am only 18

  • these guy s are great they are beater then the music to day and im only 25

  • @firepimp83

I'll be 25 in January and I agree whole heartedly

  • @firepimp83 I think that every genre has it's plusses. I grew up listening to the Statler Bros., but I hated them because I was into Scriti Politi and Adam Ant. Now I listen to the Statler Brothers because they remind me of home and like my parents, I like to wind down to them-- but I still listen to MY music and other artists from other periods.

These guys definitely harmonized and energized their audiences.

  • @firepimp83

    :-)

    yeah statler´s rulez

  • They are also out of their normal line up. Lew is on the opposite side of Don.

  • In all the line-ups that I've ever seen, Lew/Jimmy has always been on that side of Don, except whenever Don and Harold and Phil were moving around.

  • that is what I meant. I was trying to say they were moving around and interacting with public. sorry bout that

  • My dad died listening to this song. It was his birthday and cancer had snuck up on him. He knew he was going and had slipped into a coma. I got him this CD that day. I'd listened to this album growing up and I knew he could hear us. I put the CD on and he looked up at smiled at me and started to cross himself-- I helped him finish the crossing. He died listening to this song. Rock on in peace Dad! Wherever he is, he's got music!

  • The only word that fits is Thanks

  • Yeah they definately have a different stage presence here, much more like the Farwell Concert. They usually stand right in line, Harold, Phil, Don, Lew, and sing their parts. Lew is picking on the guitar a lot more than he usually does too.

    Very cool. THanks for posting!!!
