Both actors to play Ruth were just wrong. William Bendix a little pip-squeak and John Goodman a fat slob. Ruth was an ATHLETE. Probably the best ever, and a legend, so who could play him anyway?
I think the real Babe Ruth would have enjoyed this movie and would've applauded the cast for job well done. It's not perfect - it's a MOVIE - not an official documentary.
gosh i just wonder how many homeruns babe ruth coulve had if he didnt drink or smoke or do anything bad. then there would be no such thing as breaking a babe ruth record
This could be the worst movie in history. Horrible casting, horrible acting, horrible twisting of the truth. 300 lb John friggin' Goodman as a lifetime .342 hitter?!
It's called knowing baseball history and trying to keep other, less knowledgeable people (perhaps like yourself) from buying into Hollywood's twisted distortion of the truth for revenue purposes.
If you really cared about the sport or babe ruth, you should spend your time watching a real piece of history, like Ken Burn's 'Baseball', the greatest factual documentary ever about baseball (and Ruth).....rather than posting these clips and wasting your time promoting this type of dribble.....
Your mother should have explained simple common sense to you like mine did to me. ; )
@guitymon It's true. Babe was never that heavy even after he retired, lol. John Goodman was never happy with the film himself, feeling caught between the great money they were offering him and the fact that he could not lose the weight, When Babe was a younger ballplayer, he was very lean. They did the same thing in the William Bendix version, where both actors in their 40's played a 17 year old Babe Ruth, who got his nickname because he was underage and had to have his manager be his guardian.
They MUST make a Babe Ruth movie in 2012

Babe Ruth is simply the greatest baseball player of all time! Not that Hank Aaron or Steroid Bonds. Babe is the name.
Excellent movie. I haven't seen it since Summer 08 when I was in Yuma, Arizona.
