this song is my life; the only difference is was me a she who flew across the sea to help him and as the song said , that is what happened to us. miss him so so much
I remember the song, this happened to me. I did fly across the sea , to help him get off his Knees, and suddenly he died , I could not help him anymore,The gift I did receive was to be able to see him one more time , before he left for the gates of heaven. Your song lives within me xx Annie
The best thing about Edward Bear is that Joe Jackson wanted to start a band called Edward Bear, and Larry and the boys forced him to drop the name and try something else...
love evoys music just a prime example of the talent that came out of canada how could you not love the 70s or the 60s music scene sit back and have a cold one or a joint or two and relive your past thanks for posting this song
i had a compilation cassette with this song, lost it a long time ago, but if i remember right the liner notes said that this song was about the singer's aunt.
Does anybody have an interpretation of what is going on in the lyrics? Are the boy and girl brother-sister or boyfriend-girlfriend? I kind of like the former better. An upbeat, non-maudlin song about somebody tragically dying before they could come and help her is a great idea.
I have ZERO interest in Scientology, but...does Larry Evoy's membership make me be less-prejudiced to that religion? I'll be honest with you, yes. Larry is an incredibly deep cat ... a lot more so than Tom Cruise, lol.
This group were amazing. I remember listening to this way back when. Music was so much better then. Songs actually had melodies then. What a great era.
My dad was in this band! But he left before they did this record! Craig Hemming! Look up Edward Bear on wikipedia and he'll be there!!! lol. Love this song.
yeah. but the thing is. the artist and the gifts they have seek a fertile ground for saving or fruition. and scientology is attractive to the mind/feeling of the artist in some instances. when some other fertile ground of appeal comes along they can step into it...and away from what they may come to perceive as cult. not for judgement. i regard the man as artist as valueable in his work alone notwithstanding what are his own trials to self-preservation in changing times...cultural disrespects.
Too bad Larry Evoy got sucked into L. Ron Hubbard's sci-fi religion Scientology. Evoy even became a poster boy, appearing frequently in '70s Scientology recruitment ads in mags. I can't help wondering about Scientology's goofy claims that it creates geniuses and super-artists. Many artists seem to have become Scientologists AFTER becoming successful, not BECAUSE of Scientology! I can't think of one who showed progressive genius after years in Scientology.
I saw the last incarnation of Edward Bear at a pub at McMaster University, during which Evoy went into a Scientologist rant, and the audience booed him off the stage. That was a sad spectacle to witness...
Nothing like like going out of his way to alienate an audience! I guess a true believer may feel it's his duty to try to convert everyone "for their own good"!
He should have known though a U. audience would be hip to Scientology enough that they'd be unlikely to react well to such proselytizing. Isaac Hayes was another musician vocal about his allegiance to Hubbard's fantasies. But he did his best work in the '60s & early '70s BEFORE joining Scientology. It didn't improve his song writing.
they(the group) or he (larry evoy) came out with a christmas song called drop on by for christmas . has anyone ever heard of it ? it was released in the mid 70's ..if you got it please post it ..it was a really beautiful song..

I really don't care about what a performer does in his private life, I just appreciated Evoy's talent and the timeless songs, like this one.

larry evoy should have been crowned the "king of soft pop" for the seventies!
other gems: masquerade, last song, close your eyes -- sound as lovely today as they did back in the day!

Fading & fizzling's seems more typical.
