Um, pretty much every movie he made after Naked Gun, save for a few, were written in the exact same style, the exact same genre, with the same parody and slapstick. Every single one was in the vein of the Naked Gun. So yeah, obviously its just a case of trying to live off the success of a past hit. Again, that is not to say I don't love all those movies, because many of them are awesome.
