  • Wish the remake would have been more like the original.I watched about half an episode of the remake and turned to something else

  • 3 dumb cylons were here... Forever Galactica!

  • can anyone download the first 4 episodes I am not sure but I think that it was made into a movie please if anyone has them can you please download them. Thanks

  • My father believes that's all nonsense . . . but he seems to enjoy it anyway.

  • Can all you lot stop whining about how much the older series is better than the newer one. To be honest I thought Ronald D.Moore did a great job with the 2004 remake, most remakes suck compared to the original. The remake is simply a re-imagination and reiteration of this great show! Moore did a good thing by putting Battlestar Galactica in the limelight for the newer generation and plus it has better effects. Both versions rock! both should be appreciated...End of.

  • The original is best. Why don't they make a new version like the original...

  • @jaconguy really....the new galactica is amazing!!! muuuuch better that the original

  • @nespi1987

Yeah cause it has sex sex sex and drama drama.

    Correct?

  • @Rainbow6Team nope..it has Edward James Olmos ...done

  • @nespi1987

    Oh really?

Well as long as it's not that ugly pig nose blonde bimbo who tries to pass up as Starbuck. The original Starbuck is way better than the bimbo.

  • David Icke continues "It is the brightest

star in the Lyra constellation and the fifth brightest in our sky. Wherever it was, I feel the human race originally came from another star system and took the opportunity to populate and experience this magnificent new planet. "

Now if that doesn't sound like the plot to the American Scifi tv program. Battlestar Galactica. I don't know what does.Did the makers of these TV Shows no more about humanitys origins than they are letting on?.Very Interesting

  • British Author and researcher David Icke into our origins wrote amazingly something similar to this in his book The Truth Shall Set You Free. He writes on page 15.

"Human civilization did not begin on Planet Earth, I am convinced. It came to this planet from other areas of the galaxy. Some say the first humans on Earth came from the star system called Vega, 26 light-years from here, and three times the size of the Sun.

  • @rohanmarkjay Scientists would cast doubt on that as Vega is estimated at 1/2 billion years old. A bit young for an advanced civilization.

  • @keith4291 Pbth, The new one is made of win. it is the living essence of win. So say we all.

  • This version is rediculous compared to the glory and WIN of the new series.

  • thank the gods for the new series.

  • its really simple if the New Series had this music istead of that Crap Into and Music then it would have been better

  • I love it. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing. Imagine how great this could have been at the time had the creators been given the freedom to do as they needed rather than conform to a rediculous family friendly time slot...and that's where the new BSG steps in...fingers crossed for something even darker and edgier with "Blood and Chrome". BIG fan of the entire franchise. Always will be. - George.

  • @GrandHighMarshall I agree with this completely. The overall tone of the new series seems far more appropriate to relay the gravity of thier situation.

  • Nice musical theme but the re-imagined show as better, and the movie that's going to be made is going to be more mindless Michael Bay crap for idiots.

  • The new version of this show is a total insult to everything magical I grew up with. I remember the excitement when the show came on.They should have used a different name and character names for the new show. Even if the old show had cheezy moments so what alot of 70's shows did but were great. To add insult to injury they use horrible glossy fake looking CG in the new show which has ruined all new sci fi shows/movies.The opening theme music to this show is without a doubt one of the greatest!!

  • @Thermionman1970 I grew up with the original and I like the new version so much more. It developed the story and the characters to their potential.

The new show also was able to take todays social issues and put them in a futuristic setting without detracting from the story.

The problem with the origical is thatit was too campy and they kept reusing the same battle scenes over and over again.

  • @Jcorp67 You just missed the whole point of what I said! If they wanted to make a new show about today's social issues and better character development fine but CHANGE THE NAME AND THE CHARACTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and leave our 1970's shows alone. Even if they used the same battle scenes over and over at least they were done without crappy glossy computer effects that have no real weight.

  • @Thermionman1970 No I didn't miss the point. They took an older concept and brought it more up to date and made it more relevant.

Why change the names? A Battlestar is an aircraft carrier in space. The characters had real names and the names from the original series were their call signs. Once again that made it more realistic.

Battle scenes from the original were cheap looking. New series was not crappy glossy cg in my opinion.

  • my gosh im old!

  • BSG was one of the few examples of a TV show that was getting good ratings and winning its time slot, but got cancelled because it was so expensive to make. There was no CGI in those days. Everything was done with models. Had the technology to produce it more economically existed in 1978, it probably would have lasted several seasons. I hope they move forward with then plan to create a "classic" BSG movie.

  • @jtkirkfan2002 I hope they don't. CG would totally ruin it!

  • @Thermionman1970 CGI can be done well. Take a look the the DE of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. What I hope is that if they do make a movie based on classic BSG, they stick with good shots of the ships, slow beauty passes and that sort of stuff, not the "documentary style hand-held camera" crap that the new show used for the effects shots. I like to be able to keep up with what is going on.

  • @jtkirkfan2002 Screw you, my collection of the new series is listed under Documentaries. :P

  • @CatsRuleDogsAreTards So what? That doesn't mean that the effects shots still weren't crappy.

  • .... Wow, what a Star Wars rip off! LOL

  • It's crazy how the voice of the guy in the intro is actually Count Iblis (The Devil) whom Adama met. He's also the Cylon High Commander.

    Great intro.

  • the present day battlestar galactica is simply crap. this 1978 series is simply outstanding with an awesome soundtrack.

  • @dfbread outstanding? really? great for nostalgia value but it's pretty hard to watch nowadays, 'cept for the music

  • @dfbread I'm with you! I especially like the pilot "Saga of a Star World". Can't get into the new series at all. I mean, Starbuck being played by a woman (I liked to call her Starbutch)? That's as pathetic as if Sheba were to be played by a man!

  • @SnowbirdFlock - 80s simply has the best stuff ever. movies, tv series and music... totally missing those. i was just discussing this with a buddy how music these days was so digitally manipulated and movies isn't about acting but effects. The present forgotten what's content truly about. ... Still love Sheba being a woman for sure! haha

  • the voice of Patrick McNee...........John Steed of the Avengers...........I would have prefered James Earl Jones

  • @northshore7x McNee was also Count Iblis here. As well as the Cylon High Commander.

  • Ah man, this takes me back, I'm sitting here right now wearing a bike helmet with a small torch shoved inside it to illuminate my face making pew pew sounds as I rock left and right.

  • Atreyu!

  • For some reason i like the idea of different groups of humanity fighting in space for survival. BSG and Freespace could have almost become the same series.

  • One of the best intros for a TV show ever, especially Sci-Fi! Love the theme song.

  • @corgi75082 I long for the days when both TV shows and films took their times opening like this. Now it's nothing but "hurry up"openings.

  • takes me back to my childhood!

  • love that original theme

  • Comment removed

  • I loved the old show. BUT the new one is great on its own merit.. and the new show had a MUCH better ending than the old show....

  • I am glad I never watched the new 'modern' series. I knew something was rotten in the stateof Denmark when I saw a woman being adressed as Starbuck; turned it off and showed my wife why the energy of a warrior belongs to a man only. Pretty soon they will have us believing that assfucking gay men can bear children too, just like they supposedly can get married.

  • That's clearly your loss. Considering the new stuff has long-since outpaced the old BSG by light years, and Starbuck (yes, Katie Sackoff) was an integral part to the Colonials finding Earth.

Sorry for you that gays marry, and women can fight in the military. Just because you have personal issues, does not mean the rest of the world has to. I loved the original BSG, but long live Ron Moore's BSG! 2003-2009 (how long did the original go?).

  • I like your pretence about how "universal" you are. As if you were born out of the ass of a married gay couple and wars are won by having women fight your battles. All universal truths corresponding with reality and human inner psychology; just like your magnanimitycomplex is so fashionable, completely devoid of 'personal issues' as you undoubtedly are and representing all of mankind in your person, right fawning reptile??

  • @yamejanakaratoprak

what the hell are you babbling about?

All I detect is a whiff of narcissism mixed with an aroma of homophobia (or perhaps repressed homoerotic urges?) and sexism.

  • @squeezybox Dont flatter yourself with your own disease, homosexual freak. Just b/c you are so inferior to humiliate yourself by being fucked in the ass by another man does not mean that you can shift blame and responsibility to somebody else. Apparently you are feeling the burning shame about being a thief in the night and always remaining ethically dissatisfied by abusing and being abused for unnatural sex.

  • @yamejanakaratoprak

Research performed by the university of Georgia comparing reactions to various sexual images (male-female, female-female, male-male) found that the only significant differences between homophobic and non-homophobic men was that the homophobic men displayed greater arousal (as measured by change in penile circumference) when shown the male homosexual sex.

  • @yamejanakaratoprak

You do realise making stuff up just turns you into looking even more of a rampant lunatic?

Multiple research studies have found no link between sexual orientation and child abuse - paedophiles don't have a healthily formed adult sexual orientation. Freund et al carried out a study in Canada (yes, a real one) which refutes totally the shit you just made up.

But I guess you struggle with things like 'thinking' and 'words'. What with all the gay panic going on in your head.

  • Hearing Patrick MaNee (I think it's him) do this voiceover, can't help but remember that he played Count Iblis later on. it Kind of a freaky notion that the Devil is narrating your story. Gotta imagine RDM picked up on that with his version, and the hints about the Cylon God and the 13th Lord of Kobol.

  • @petekwando Yes, That is Patrick MacNee in the opening voice-over

  • Yes that's him all right.

  • I remember it.

  • oh hell i think i seen a part of this series loong time ago but i didnt know it was galactica ... now it sparked my interest to see and the old one ...

  • The new version is nice to look at but doesn't have the same zest and spirit of the original.

  • The performance of the entire prequel and main sequence of music is slightly different than the original in my opinion, and is not as inspirational and powerful.

  • Right. But it shows how the humanity would presumably behave.

  • No, it depends on what groups of humanity you have around at the time.

The older generation prefer the older version of BSG, the younger (under 30) seem to prefer the newer one with it's 'darker' vibe.

This tells me the newer generation are more pessimistic in some ways.

  • @WatchRyder Hm. That could be. I'm Generation 80 and prefer the older version too :)

  • Before GW in '01 or before or after? Seems to me that the after effects are detrimental.

  • we re-elected Bush. Death to us all if I ever saw it.

  • by the way, how could our human ancestors dress the same way 150 000 years ago, as the same way today.

the re imaged version was original, but the ending did not make sense to me, no matter how hard i tried to envision it.

  • Clothes are clothes man.

Yes the re-imagined version is a bit wierd and I prefer the old-school one...

  • True, the newer one was nice, though I had some major issues with the newer one, thae fact that they gave Boomer & Starbuck a Sex Change, not withstanding

  • what angered many fans was Moore changed the race and sex of the characters plus threw in new people the audience had a hard time knowing. He could had left the storyline of Number 6 Cylon on the cutting room floor.Plus I love Stu Phillips music.

  • @quarqill I totally agree with the Number 6 storyline

But there were other things that ruined the show

Like Switching the names of the games Pyramid & Triad, among other things

  • @WatchRyder Well the newer version isn't striving to be a "Space Opera" like the original...

  • @WatchRyder

Agreed. The original had better story telling, better acting, and in many ways better understanding of physics as far as space combat is concerned.

    Ode to Lorne Greene. R.I.P.

  • @WatchRyder I don't think so. I think the re-imagined story was pretty good.

  • @Scoonertuna

On that my Scoony friend, we'll have to agree to differ.

I notice that younger people prefer the new one, while people from before the 80s prefer the older version :)

  • @WatchRyder I wouldn't go that far. I grew up with both the old and the new version and I thought both were awesome! The 1978 version maybe had a little more heart because it was always about trusting their fellow soldiers to get through the struggle. The new one had that, but because the Cyclons could look like humans, there was distrust among them. Two different Era's of storytelling and slightly different versions of the show. I say both are great and I cannot wait for the movie!

  • @Scoonertuna

I hear you totally on that last part Scoony, I can't wait and really do hope it's true to the original one. :)

  • @WatchRyder I have a feeling it will be. Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects) is a huge fan of the show and if anyone can do the franchise justice, he can.

  • @WatchRyder U R RIGHT

  • exciting series. i don't care much for the new version.

  • Classic!!!!!!

  • The Avengers' Patrick Macnee is nararrating.

  • He is also the voice of the Imperious Leader and played as Count Iblis.

  • Lorne Greene in great new bio (Charlton Heston: An Incredible LIfe) at amazon!

  • The Original galactuica was Mystical,M<ajical, and Uplifting. It was a Classic Epic never fully developed to it;'s True Potential due to budget problems , technical problems and the Limitations put onm it by the writing standards of the 1970s. At least it was a m,ajor Network show. The new and "Re-imagined" show started ioff fine but didn't become eopic or larger tjhan life until it's final episode when it really indeed paid tribute to the Original Show. Galactica is the next Giant Frfanchise

  • The greatest movie/t.v. show/mini series ever made. ABC dropped the ball by not sticking with the 1978 version of Battlestar Galactica.

  • You are right about ABC-TV.They didn't give Larson time to write good scripts and get the special effects team time to come up with new battle scenes.Plus they had to deal with the lawsuit George Lucas filed which was a waste of time because Larson had Galactica created nearly 10 years before Star Wars.

  • The original series was fun to watching as kid over 30 years ago, but times change. The show is essentially unwatchable nowadays. Not even for camp value.

All it has¨is a great intro music. Not much else.

The reboot of Galatica is flawed and it definitely has a somber mood, but it's made for a modern audience. And they don't recycle the same stock footage of dog fights over and over and over again

  • Pssshaw

  • Oh, there's definitely recycled stock footage, mostly during the first series, but I'll concede not nearly to the same degree :)

  • no, the older version is better. I accidently gave you a + for the opinion. God Bless you, but I disagree.

  • Same here, I love original BSG. The new one's okay but not as good, its too soapy and more focused on human relationships. The original was more endearing and had a better balance of soap drama and dynamic storylines.

  • Well..I was reading an old script somewhere that all of the tribes that migrated from the planet Kobol gave up their technology in order for a fresh start. It's kind of a time loop in a weird kinda way. This is hinted at in the new version by Ronald D. Moore as well. I personally liked the old version of the Cylons being created by the Reptilian race also called Cylons myself.

  • I love the original series over the new Sci Fi channel series...I can't get into that one..

  • I loved how they dressed in the original series. You got the feeling that they were an ancient race. It's one of the major issues I had with the new series.

  • Cool show, but it really got stupid when they made the 1980 series. The older series was pretty, er... groovy hehe.

  • bsg for ever !!!!!!!!

  • Well it was the time just the primary school has began. I remember watching the Battlestar with a mix of open mouth. How beautiful days are those days. I would like to see the full series....

  • The original Battlestar Galactica's out as a boxset so you should be able to find it, as is Galactica 1980.

  • ok so if the tribes are fathers of lets say egyptians, why would they give up technology when they came to earth?plus, isnt earth occupied by cylons long before they were even created by capricans?(speaking about both the old and the new series)

  • You don't know you're Galactica history, Kobol was the mother planet of all humans, before they emigrated to the colonies - Caprica, Sagittaria etc, Earth is the last thirteenth colony, so after the destruction of the other colonies the last battlestar Galactica goes on a search for the last human colony Earth. We YouTubers and the rest of mankind, don't laugh, are the descendants of the survivors of the colonies!!

  • nope. in fact we are half human, half cylon and every religion worships the one and true god, the cylon god.

  • this is not true. buddhism doesnt believe in any god. in the past romanian and greek religions believed in the many gods. dont forget there are millions of atheists too

  • Until i actually SAW the older series, i thought it was the only one. i wasn't around in 1978 and still think it's better than the new one. when i first saw two eps of the new one i thought 'battlestar galactica sucks!' but then i accidentally saw the older one and thought 'this is Galactica? what the.....frak?!'

  • They never explained 'in universe' Starbucks' and Boomer's gender change to women. i understand being more fair to women but it was like Adama in the new series didn't even notice that his two top colonial viper fighter pilots became girls. that and you the cylons aren't anywhere close. they're people and use sex (too much of that on tv as it is, it doesn't belong on sci fi) to kill

  • ...Because it's a "re-imagining", ie starting over from scratch and not following on from the old series. They've always been female in the new BSG universe. I thought that was obvious..?

  • @Cruithne3753 more like taking something classic and ruining it. the new show doesn't even register as BSG to anyone who really knows the series. not even BSG 1980 counts. it's just like how they killed SeaQuest DSV in Season 2 or Airwolf in Season 4

  • @Cruithne3753 more like taking something classic and ruining it. the new show doesn't even register as BSG to anyone who really knows the series. not even BSG 1980 counts. it's just like how they killed SeaQuest DSV in Season 2 or Airwolf in Season 4

  • One of the best TV soundtracks ever.

  • along with star trek battle star galactica was truly ahead of its time!

  • *erm* star wars *erm*

  • i meant for tv.

  • I miss the days when we could actually conceive of a time where we came from "out there:"

  • i miss the days of good old special effects, sparks, models, the fact that most backgrounds were paintings, cgi is cool, but man... this stuff had to be built. costumes made, make up, ship models, weapons props. stunt people. jane seymour/ selena oohhh the cylons voice was so cool.. non cgi kept folks in jobs too.

  • Stuff still has to be built in 3D too man, Don't write it off as all digital and no heart.

  • Problem was that it meant that an exploding ship needed to be rebuilt. That's why they kept re-using the same effects footage over and over again, which got kinda old.

  • 1978 seems like yesterday.......is it really 30 years ago???

  • It truly has been 30 years and it shows. This was a great show when one's 12. But seeing grown adults comparing this to the new one? I guess it just shows you how much nostalgia can color your opinions. Not saying that's wrong, just glad it hasn't colored mine.

  • PLEASE.

The new series cannot hold a candle to the original, not for a second.

The new one is a product of contemporary media horse shit designed to be morose, down trodden and overtly femenist.

Shows from the 70's had optimism, colour and most importantly, a FRAKKIN GREAT INTRO!

The new crap can burn in its own morbid juices.

  • If Larson's feature film project is greenlighted I hope he continue to use the same opening and music tracks like he did in the original.

  • I just went back almost 3 decades...MAN this is when TV was TV!!!

  • I was so into this show as a kid it wasn't funny.

  • The new one just seems like a really long crygasm to me. Sexytime, Emotime, ect.

  • Oh God... are you serious? I watched both and I've gotta say the new one is totally badass.

Just because it is more cerebral doesn't mean it's a "crygasm".

  • The new show was great, until it went retro and did a "Dallas" on us all with the lame "It was all a dream/God's doing".

Then it became an utter and 100% complete failiure of a show.

  • I'll agree that the final episode was disappointing. I wasn't happy with it. It totally felt like they needed 5 more episodes to really wrap things up properly and the way it ended felt rushed and very duex ex machina.

The rest of the series, though... freakin' wicked!

  • The big news is that Glen Larson is in talks with Universl Studios aout making a Galactica feature film and possibly a TV series.Larson said it will not be like Ron Moore's version.

  • The original showed the best of side of humanity (ok except Baltar) cooperating to work with what little they had towards a better future. Noble and heroic warriors in desperate time (Commander Cain?)

The new series showed humanity at it's worst

Backstabbing, self-serving, and short sighted people scrambling for what little resources they have... I think with suicide bombings on New Caprica and the Munity on the Galactica the survivors died more at their own hands then from the Cylon attacks!

  • Coudn't agree with you more!

  • Beside all the sick, lame angst/emo shit, here is also the design.

The old version of battle star galactica looks futuristic, new version simply looks like its made of junk even chines factory "slaves" would be ashamed of producing.

  • Great, isn't it?

    Briliant show!

  • DAMN RIGHT!

  • The new show showed our best side as well. People sacrificing their lives so that others could live. How when things are desperate peple will still fight to survive.

This show was a sign of our times.

  • Quiza existan nuevas series de Battlestar Galactica, pero como la original nunca va a haber otra igual, yo recuerdo cuando veia este programa en la television y siempre fue muy especial para mi...

  • You wish.

The new series is a piece of corporate, turgid tripe that was made for the sake of cash, people who drink at starbucks and anyone who thinks Friends is a funny show.

Its CRAP, whereas the original is the ONLY Battlestar Galactica, always will be!

  • I enjoyed the remake version of the show - it was a great update ... but there is no denying that the original opening was far superior.

Much more inspirational and awe inspiring.

  • I completely agree with most of the comments here. I watched every episode of the new series... and hated every minute of it. I only stuck with it in a hope that it would get better. Now I'll never get all those hours back. What a complete waste. It was so depressing and virtually plotless. I'm going to watch the original series now and try to shrug off and forget the new series, which they should have called "9/11 in Space".

  • I still wish the original serise had a follow up.While the remake was good beside being gritty and well written plots.I thought it was too dark and depressing.Still it did get a ending at least.Still i like the original bsg so much i bought the dvd boxset a few years back.

  • I actually like bother versions for differing reasons. I like this version cause it is fun to watch and has a charm that cant be copied. But i also like the new version cause it's gritty and the storyline is darker so overall i think both versions are great because each version is on each end old version = fun to watch new version = gritty entertainment

  • I am looking forward in seeing Glen Larson's feature film version of Galactica. He is sticking to his version.A top special effects company has already been signed.

  • I hope he stays close to his original BSG series cause i loved it! Do you know anything more about the upcoming movie?

  • The old series was hammy and campy and most of all.............fun!!!! By comparison, the new series is like pulling teeth.

  • I would like to see the old episodes... I'm watching the new ones @ the moment. It woudl've been nice though if the current episodes would've been a follow up the old ones...

  • Yes.....I agree.......didnt care for their "40 year gap"..........didnt work..........in fact I couldnt relate to the new series at all.

  • I would like to see the old episodes... I'm watching the new ones @ the moment. It woudl've been nice though if the current episodes would've been a follow up the old ones...

  • This WAS and IS the only BSG that I know. Current version of it on SciFi cant hold a candle to this one at all what so ever. Ths show is classic the other one should just go away..haha.

  • Indeed. John Collicos as Boltar was awesome. So slimey and weasely, even when he was finally captured. :)) the best.

  • So much better then the new BSG

  • What. no.

  • Hang on.........it was meant to be a childs toy robot to replace Boxy's real dog that was crushed when a building collapsed on Caprica.
