That must be from the good old days when you could do your class one in something not much bigger than a 7.5tonner with a 5 speed gearbox. By the time I did mine, you even had to do the class 2 in a wagon with an 8 speed box.
I had a rip off company called Sterling LGV who said they had a training centre in Bolton which was an old lorry parked up in the street. I spent my life saving on an intensive course for Class 2 and took out their unlimited attempts insurance for an extra 300 quid. I failed the test 9 times and complained to them about the low standard of training and they didn't want to know. The unlimited insurance was only 4 free attempts and I still had to pay for the test fees! Sterling are Con Merchants
I heard that the law was changing,do you need to be loaded now? i took my c+e in a ford cargo artic flatbed, they look tiny compared to a full sized one.
I think it's 2010 that they have to be loaded, but not sure on that one yet. To be honest I am tring to get out of the business after 24 years. I am starting to teach music now
There doesnt seem to be many hgv training schools about, at least not in my area (herefordshire) they are all retiring! teaching music will be a much more relaxing job i would think!
Lol how can people argue over this!? Ill be honest ive always been tought to switch the engine off (i only have class 2_ but i would have thought class 1 would be the same. Anyhows, As for the person with the new merc- I wouldnt want newbies training in a brand new lorry!
The engine should be switched off when you leave the cab it is somthing i was taught when taking my test....and i am sure driving standards agency would agree with me.
And your instructor has been doing this since 1984 like I have, or is he just some dickhead truck driver with no qualifications that thinks he knows everything like you ?
Shows how much you know, when you do the reversing exercise you are asked leave the engine running in case there is a problem and the vehicle wont start, making the reversing area unusable for the next candidate.
They had it easy back then, look how small that thing is!!! took my test other month and lorry i passed in would tower over that thing!

en españa se hace de otra manera, tienes que zigzagear para enderezar luego el conjunto, es mas dificil.

So you are saying that i shouldn't use them for my training?
Bretty135 3 years ago
Sterling are in Court in March 2009 - they are Britains Number 1 Ripoff LGV Company

Well I didn't know that, do you have any other details?
Bretty135 3 years ago
must be much harder to do the reversing exercise in a wagon + drag, is that a 7.5 tonner?
levellingtheland 4 years ago
Nope its a 10 tonne prime mover with an 8 tonn trailor. Cant use this for test now, must be 12 tonne, 8 speed, full body on the back.
