  • Alltime hot Carpenters 'uncool?' says more about 1970s sad suckas, than about Carpenters' constant class.

  • They were the best.

  • even Hendrix and other heavies said she had the perfect voice

  • only idiot who doesn't love karen's music.......she's really a big loss to the industry

  • "When I was young, I'd listen to the radio..." listening for Karen's voice. I don't listen to their music so often anymore. But her voice still makes my heart sing along. R.I.P sweet lady.

  • Omg Karen is so beautiful right at 9:25 of this video. You can tell that she was eating normally and not looking at mirrors at this time.

I curse Richard for not bending her over his knee for bare butt spankings and forcing Double Whoppers w/c down her throat.

  • @ItIsAllGoodMostly its unfair to blame Richard Carpenter it had to gut him to watch his little sister starve herself and no matter what you want to do up to and including spanking her knowing damn well there was nothing he could do

  • Angel voice! So sweet!!!

  • Karen Carpenter, the most honest singing voice in history.

  • I first heard of The Carpenters when they did Goodbye to Love, I was only 8, they were an Icon because there is NOBODY like them. What I love about them besides their music is that they stayed true to themselves, well, until Karen developed anorexia. Then there was the "three of them".

  • Karen was one of he greatest singers ever. I saw them at least 5 times in concert. What an experience. I miss her everyday.

  • See, the beauty of the Carpenters, is that no on, not one can duplicate any song by this duo, and reproduce what Karen sang, and how she sung it. I've heard so many versions "close to you" and nothing comes close. Karen...sung from the heart, a true poet! She was a sick lady with her illness, and no one to properly guide her, she may have still been here. DAMN! I'm 46, and to know me, you would not think that this is what I listen to. Best of the Carpenters is always in my cd player.

  • Amazing musicianship and talented brothers but please don't put them as "cool" cos it's not the really the point.

  • She found her vocation, whether singing or drumming, seems she had it alright. You can't go wrong with DANCIN IN THE STREETS

  • I will forever love the Carpenters no matter what anyone says!

  • @MsLuvera Pretty much true with me, I don't like every song, but I am a metal head who's over 40, so at other times in my life, were other decades of music that I enjoyed and still do

  • @MetallicBill metal might be what you prefer but it is obvious you have an open mind and love good music

  • @MrDonnaSue I'm barely 40 and I love them. My mom loved it, thats how I heard it.

  • karen was so homely

  • The One & Only Karen Carpenter !!!

  • Karen Carpenter has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. Love her songs. Favorite is Superstar. Makes me cry everytime I listen to it. Wish you were still here. We all miss you.

  • Agnes and Richard were a pair of cunts. Her whole downfall was due to that talentless prick and a mother who couldn't have cared less about her. The dear old mother thought the sun shone out his ass. She should have gone solo, but they resented her and held her back. A true talent fucked over by those "closest" to her.

  • @genieman71 Richard couldn't handle the quick success and got on drugs; Mom and Pop were a couple of cold fish by all accounts, and Karen's taste in men led her to some shady characters her parents (unfortunately proved right) warned her against. KC didn't have much of an emotional support system; "...No one ever cared if [she] should live or die/Time and time again the chance for love ha[d] passed [her] by..." Not quite as simple as the conspiracy theory you're selling, mate.

  • THX 4 POSTIN' !!!!

    Love their sound.

Hate that Karen starved to death...

  • I've always wondered if Harold and Agnes had any kind of musical talent-considering the tremendous abilities of their children.

  • The Carpenters- In high school everybody bought their records but nobody would admit to it. How come?

  • I don't think young viewers can really appreciate how innovative and cutting edge the Carpenters were at the time. Overdubbing was fairly new stuff and Richard and Karen perfected it to the nth degree. It gave the Carpenters that rich lush, beautiful sound. Still Amazing!!

  • Angelic voice & I truly love "Close to You !

Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 – February 4, 1983) was an American singer and drummer. She and her brother, Richard, formed the 1970s duo

"The Carpenters". She was a drummer of exceptional skill, but it is for her vocal performances that she is best remembered.

She suffered from anorexia nervosa, a little known disease at the time, and died at the age of 32 from heart failure, later attributed to complications related to her illness.

  • love there music so much!! what a voice!!!!

  • i love you karen. rest in peace my love

  • Eles eram marido e mulherr?

  • @moranabriana1

    irmaos minha cara

  • I love the Carpenters. But, this video, the story and the taboo of anorexia make me made. I know her family loved her but , one of the reasons people suffer from anorexia is because it's a control thing. this poor woman was told what to do her whole life. How to act, speak, sing. She could not hale a taxi herself until in her twenties. The body dismorphic disorder stil exists today. Look at models. RIP Karen now you have control of your destiny. We all mis your talent.

  • I love The Carpenters music!! An Aunt of mine rought me their

Lp (back in the 70`s) when ii stayed with her for the week....

I have since brought their greatest hits on C.d.

Karen is still truely missed as she had a wonderful, mellow voice

    & a beautiful lady both inside & out. x

  • Que pena...tanto talento, UN ANGEL. Claudio de Argentina con afecto

  • This video is incredible!! She has the most incredible alto voice I have ever heard.

It is such a tradegy that she died young. She really was an attractive girl with a sweet personality and disposition. Her voice is so pure.

  • muy buena cancion

  • que triste. como paso la vida.

  • This is great documentary!! I can avoid to ask myself ... If she were alive...how big would she be now?!! It is so sad she is not...

  • Karen Carpenter is the best singe ever! I love her voice, and they have so many great hits. I love the song "Touch me when we're dancing" it's stuck firmly to the brain!!

  • Smooth, smooth, smooth! I want to go back. I love this girl. We've lost class over the years. So much natural talent between Karen & Richard.

  • Nobody will EVER sing just like Karen did...I grew up listening to her perfect voice...She taught me how to sing...an icon of music everlasting and unforgettable...

  • Best women singer of all time

  • Their songs have a "bare bones" intimacy to them. I don't care what anyone says, they belong in RRHF.

  • is there a part two of dis documentary?

  • Really great video, and boy do I miss her!

  • that vocie is the great female vocie ever

  • Her voice was so lovely but don't forget her first love...the drums because she is one of the world's best female drummers to this day and in those days girls didn't do drums. RIP Karen.

  • love this music!! This is one of my favorite, hmm I missed those days when i was young

  • at 0:09-0:14 she looks like a doll. so pretty. :)

  • Her voice is so hard to describe.. it's so lovely. True, nobody has and will ever have a voice like her. I wouldn't be surprised if their music would still be heard at around 2025 or 2050.

I wish we had more voices like these around. What we have now are so-called 'singers' who don't even know how to sing love songs like the Carpenters have.

  • R.I.P. Karen Carpenter ... The voice of the angels!!!!... forever the best woman singer of all time!!! :'(

  • The voice of an angel on earth for such a short time. I am grateful to have experienced her talent in my life. My heart aches at her return to heaven; I miss her greatly.

  • my heart hurts D:

  • her voice is so lovely. :)

  • Obviously a fantasic vocalist, but she also really grooves on drums

  • The Artist of the most loved by me.

    Unfortunate Karen, we need you.

    ---

    BUON ANNO NUOVO

  • Dionne Warwick still thinks OJ is innocent.

  • @helmsbarn what the hell does that mean she thinks that OJ is innocent? can you elaborate..

  • I love her singing,it's like a loving mother singing to her child(close to you) Its so soothing in your times of sadness and despair. RIP May god bless you. pray for you.

  • hey what year is bthis song?

  • The original "Close to You" of Burt Bacharach was edited in 1963.

The famous Karen version belongs to 1970.

  • karen, ur songs will always be in our hearts 4ever. maybe now ur singing with the angels ^^

  • I remember seeing this documentary. Well done...Thx for this brief journey down Memory Lane.

Noone will ever have a voice like Karen..

She was liquid velvet vocals encapsulated in the body of a troubled lady

Karen, you went away too soon.

  • I always like the Carpenters. Thanks for the video!

  • understanding,is being able to understand,brilliant song.

  • cuando no se cree en Dios y en el mundo espiritual, se cometen muchos errores.

  • I'm a hardcore Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Rolling Stones, funk-rock-soul man and I LOVE THE CARPENTERS!!!!!!

  • I miss her so much.......Her talent and natural singing was and is still totally extraordinary.......

  • Thank you for showing this nice interview.Karen was the sweetest woman of the music industry.A great talent and great woman that never will be forgotten.Pity I never saw her in real, she had be a great friend.Warm regards to Richard Carpenter and Herb Alpert from Chantal(Belgium-Antwerp).

  • What do you really think caused her eating disorder?

  • Easy: you take a young girl who's mother has been and is hyper-critical and judgemental, who teaches that girl that nothing less than perfection is acceptable, you throw in enormous media scrutiny...something had to break. With Karen, it surfaced as self abuse through starvation.

  • Who is saying she didnt appreciate what she had? I don't think you understand the anorexic mentality at all.

  • It's called, you do not understand anorexia! I'm not here to educate you either, but for God's sake stop judging people about something you are utterly ignorant about. Remember, you point that finger and 3 are coming back at YOU~

  • Hmm. Well you are right, people who have to struggle to get enough food would never understand or likely get, Anorexia or bulimia. Some do, though. And if you re-read my comment, I was not blaming her mother per se for Karen's eating disorder, I was commenting on how the strive for perfection can lead to this problem. As far as egos? No one hates themselves worse than a person who is starving herself to death because she doesn't think she is worthy of food. THey have ZERO egos.

  • @no1zgrl4eva Mark Knopfler/Dire Staits (& I'm sure older) 1980 in "Solid Rock" from the "Making Movies" album (three fingers pointing back at you).

  • WE MISS KAREN !

    ANGEL VOICE !

  • Thanks crescentmoon for posting this video.

I guess it's not cool to like the carpenters but I am 39 so now I don't care what people think.

I think Karen Carpenter had a great voice and her and Richard wrote and sang great songs.

  • Karen is the female singer of all time. Nobody can deny that. If you can find another female singer who sounds better than her then write down and we'll compare.

  • That's a hard one. She is definitely in a tie with the all time greats.

  • thanks for posting crescentnoon

  • karen tiene una buena voz.

    GnR!

  • Vc é amada aqui no Brasil..!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a bitter-sweet career....so much fame and so much suffering, pain and loss

  • superb .

  • when i was a dj i played there songs all the time she is trully missed .thanks to cd's, tapes and tv we'll have them around for a while to come.

  • you can tell (in retrospect) seeing Karen in these old films.......she just does not look like a happy person...at all

  • because she never wanted to front the band...she was happy hiding behind the drum kit

had they not pushed her, she may have lived till today

and i have no doubt that she wouldve made many a guest appearance on rock and hard rock albums jamming on the drums

    she was that good

  • watch her play the drums

she couldve easily played session with the runaways....or even appeared with them on stage

he was a hard rock drummer, stuck in a soft rock world

  • I am an american......the BBC does such interesting documentaries

  • I've always thought the same thing, I love the BBC,...I wish we had a network here like that

  • Thanx for posting.........Very interesting

  • There is nobody in no way tht will sound like karen Carpenter! it is 2009 and Richard, you are great dude!

  • Richard and karen will never escape stardom! I am teary eyed!

  • Same here,it kinda makes a unusual kinda feeling or ache in the heart when you hera Close to You!

  • Both karen and Richard Carpenter can escape stardom!

  • Love Karen!!! x

  • love you Karen..... no body beats the Carpenters.... thank you thank you thank you for the music you brought us, you are truly missed... and thank you CrescentNoon for sharing these videos with us....

  • If you've ever loved someone who was self-destructive, you understand this story...

  • linda essa gata e uma voz suave ao ouvido

  • even though im a girl.. karen is sooooooo cute .....xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • richard carpenter is handsome when he was young...

  • i love that song! its on Open Season 2. Thanks 4 postin it.

  • Karen Carpenter had one of the greatest singing voices in music!

  • I think that Karen Carpenter looked similar to Kate Jackson.

  • karen is so adorable

  • They had and have some incredibly forever lasting songs

  • She's the best... I Wish That there will be the time that "there will be someone like here"

  • i weep hearing this lady karen sing...but its kinda wierd how she was never into singing and more into drums even though she could be labeled as the most gorgeous voice in music history...a person like her only comes once in a century or 2

  • me too and I am a construction worker!

  • Please show British person, me it.

How many is the number of album total sales amounts of Carpenters in the UK?

    Japan is 5,600,000 pieces(oricon.deta)

  • at 4:12 is John Bettis, a very famous songwriter. He penned "Human Nature" sung by Michael Jackson.

  • Is Karen Ichiuji-Ramone a person of what country?

  • I know that Karen died, but that doesn't means carpenters sound "died",it's eternal.Their music saved the celestial Karen's voice, so she never died really, she is in my heart.

I think that nobody can imitate well The Carpenters. They are my favorite music band, I love The Carpenters!

  • I think that in an aspect the Carpenter sound died with Karen. There has not been to this date any woman who can match her voice and there also has not been any duo that has the sound that her and Richard did together.

I really dont think that there ever will be again. All you have to do is listen to todays music to see that it is no longer about the quality of the music, only about how much money they can make from it!

  • You don't understand my answer, I just want to say that they are my favorite music band. I really don't care about your opinion.

  • My response was directed to you because i completely understood your statment. The recordings may go on but the sound died with her when she passed because no one will ever be able to match it so hence the sound is not eternal.

You know what they say. Opinions are like assholes and every one has one. Just some assholes are bigger than others and i bet yours takes up 2 chairs!

  • obviously like a fingerprint the exact same voice cannot be repeated again-there is only ever one of each person forever. Its a huge pity that the whole idea that a woman has to be slim to be considered beautiful isn,t gone

  • I AGREE!!!!

  • who was the first to figure out she had anorexia?her parents?brother?Anyone know her favorite color?

  • divine! an angel ...

  • This is really awesome!!!!!!!!

  • no comparison!

  • Hey thanks for posting, that band was so different.

  • Karen WAS the Carpenter sound

    Sorry but she was

  • RC was the architect of "the sound," with KC as the centerpiece.

  • you are so stupid!

  • I know that Karen died, but that doesn't means carpenters sound "died",it's eternal.Their music saved the celestial Karen's voice, so she never died really, she is in my heart.

I think that nobody can imitate well The Carpenters. They are my favorite music band, I love The Carpenters!

  • Karen was such an amazing singer it was insane. the most beautiful voice that ever existed. no one can ever replace her ever. she was AMAZING. PERIOD.

  • anglelic was her voice that could have move the world to peace.

  • karen is so damn pretty

  • Close to you the perfect song for the unique voice.Karen is always in my heart.

  • she had a unique voice and no comparison.Karen voice is incomparable, no one out there can sing

like my beautiful Karen. unusual quality voice

    and perfect pitched,

  • You are really Richard Carpenter, it's a question.

  • no comparison, karen voice was unique, no one can

duplicate her sound,i don't see anyone out there

had a perfect pitched like karen.

  • the narrator is very annoying, she sounds like in a fecking commercial for ice cream.

  • 30 something female BBC narrators and producers have very little talent. But they are the flavour of the month.

  • @ivorbigunzz i was forced to use her by the commissioning editor (it was his bird at the time) and i agree she ain't right

  • Yeah I hate the narrating....

  • Best Voice EVER. End of Story. Richard is a an amazing talent as well. SO much talent in one family. Just down the street from the Beach Boys, too. God, to have been living there in the early sixties.

  • she was capable of singing every single note perfectly, every damn time.

    amazing ability!

  • thanks for these videos CresentNoon

  • Karen's voice was a gift from God, uniquely hers.

  • Has anyone else noticed how similar Shania Twain's voice is to Karens?

  • I appreciate your opinion, but I don't think there's any similarity. Not just in their voices but in their worth and ability to sing in general. Karen is incomparable.

  • No, not really. Sheryl Crow, however, did a cover of 'Solitaire' on the 'If I Were a Carpenter' album, and while it wasn't similar to Karen's, it was still a decent version.

  • They have completely different styles and I've never heard Shania sing any of Karen's songs, but if you listen to their voices, IMHO they have a very similar sound .

  • Nothing compares to the sound of Karen Carpenter. It always brings a smile and you always remember where you were in life when you hear her voice.

  • one notch above heaven

  • aww ... i miss karen

  • I will never forget Karen Carpenter and Richard! Remember Richard played a major part in the role of the excellence of the Carpenters! I still love them and will never forget them!

  • Miss you Karen....

  • This is really awesome!!!!!!!! Karen Carpenter's voice is truly unique and absolutely wonderful. Richard is brilliant.

  • is it ok/normal for a grown man to cry whenever he hears a particular carpenters' song? god, she was sooo great..
