So what half of these comments are saying about the US hiding behind the British, or the British taking charge, or that the US thinks they did it all, is complete BS. No one here believes that. But remember the Americans took Omaha beach, fought through the Hedgerows, captured Cherbourg, St. Lo, and broke out of Normandy before they fought many more bloody battles. The Allies were a team, but by 1944 the Americans were the most powerful of the Western Allies. So what you just said isn't true.

Britian took the front of the nazi attacks...if you dont recall all the allies were sent to the uk because we were being attacked everynight by air. the us were attacked once by the japs and a navy base was attacked the whole of london was destroyed everynight. you yanks only care about your own...one word...selfish.

@adamcd101 If we were so selfish, why did we go to war at all? We weren't threatened by the Germans, why could have just fought the Japanese. We didn't go to Europe for our own well being. We fought there to free the oppressed. It saddens me how quickly people have forgotten. We didn't do everything, by any means, but the US had a much greater presence than either the UK or Canada by the end of the war. The Americans also won the largest battle on the Western Front, the Battle of the Bulge.

@Zombibombi62 Yes, British and Canadian forces stormed Gold, Sword, and Juno while the American 29th/4th stormed Utah and the 1st stormed Omaha. Yes, Omaha was a complete bloodbath and the worst of the five, but Utah went fairly smooth. Also, The US 2nd Rangers took Pointe Du Hoc, which may have saved Omaha 3 miles to the west, under Col. Rudder. D-Day is awesome to learn about, but complete hell for the men who lived it in reality, Allies and Axis alike...

@stikfa3 Its mostly because the british and the canadians didnt die on the beaches. Sword lost about 600 men, Juno had about 300 dead. and Gold had about 400 dead. Dont know exact.. but i think thats right.

Whereas the americas lost thousands on omaha beach. Its better for a cinematic perspective. Its very sad that noone remembers that nearly 1500 british and canadians died as well as the 4000 americans (about).

Surley that happened but the sniper had to first reach some decent cover and poking your head out for a shot was suicide. And surley whenever a machinegunner did hid, another German would quickly fill his place.
