He was so pure, so gentle, so at peace with himself and with others. There was not an aggressive bone or a fiber of ill-will in his body. One can't imagine what he is now. Just thought I'd come back to say that.
Beautiful! :o) It moves my heart to know that there is no greater teacher and friend like DEATH. When we are made humbled and surrender all identifications with THINKING, we really and truly find God. What an experienced by a Christian monk who has embraced the Wisdom from the East and now is a light to the world. Peace
He is quite calm and friendly, but I'm not sure why people see anything particularly bright, outstanding or developped about what he's saying here.
I mean, everyone should experience life as Love and abandonment, in that sense his reference to Christ is the only meaningful part. But it is much broadly explained in the spiritual writings of several carmelite saints, for example.
This is all too vague but his experience seems simple and authentic, so it is worth the beauty he shows.
This guy is awesome. Anyone hasn't heard anything about the pope condemning him, or him being excommunicated, or deemed a heretic or anything like that. I REALLY HOPE NOT, because his teachings seem to be really...Zen (excuse this word if anyone views it as cliché. By the way, Bede is my Confirmation name (technically after Bede the Venerable, but this guy's pretty cool too)
Wonderful! Perhaps you would enjoy reading Thomas Matus' "Ashram Diary," his journal of his travels and studies under Dom Bede. I am reading it now, and the more I know about Father Griffiths, the more I love him. You are right - he is not confined only to Roman Catholic doctrine. he is about transcendence, which really should be the goal of all spiritual seekers. Any who would condemn him have a great deal to learn about the true purpose of "religion."
... very beautiful and so true, thank you for posting this. There is so much love in his eyes. Once surrender happens there is this overwhelming LOVE ... and it is grace to be able to surrender...
I read Father Bede`s book " Die Hochzeit von Ost und West- Hoffnung für die Menschheit" about 20 years ago and was very impressed. He was one of the few Christian monks then who openly talked about the underlyind unity in ( beyond) all religions.
Religions are many but GOD is one and we are THAT
I like the fact that he doesn't seem to be trying to 'sell' you anything but talks about his own experiences. Sick and tired of religion and the 'sales-arguments' =fear, guilt and judgement.
I agree. Too many people who have not achieved any level of spiritual development at all are too eager to recruit others to a path they have yet to fully travel themselves. People who have attained don't need to sell anything. Peace.
Great video. I had a similar experience. Had a stroke 10 years ago, wasn't expected to live, didn't walk or talk for months.... And now I feel.. almost as if I'm in love with nearly everyone I meet! Not in some 'crazy' way, I just want the best for them, want them to live full lives. Which is largely why I'm on youtube! But I no longer believe in God and Hell and all that stuff.
Yes, Definately bullshit: Checked first wikipedia and then Googled "bede griffiths" "fascist" and so on. Not even a single grain of evidence of him being anything exept a person searching for the Source of Love itself. He Became a Monk 1932.
i like hi side of love and death being united ... the question then becomes how to induce death so as to experience love? ive had one maybe a few of those NDEs and its unforgiving.. im now a slave to love..
i can only do say what it wants and it tears me to pieces.. i resist her all the time..
Surrender to the mother, does he mean, The Blessed Virgin Mary. Is he a catholic, i think from what he is saying he is not, is he anglian, he seem such a nice man, i have never heard of him before.
He converted to Catholicism and then became a monk, living in England and Scotland. Then he moved to India and lived in Hindu ashrams (hence the clothing, th saffron robes of a renunciant). He was amazing.
"Woman represents the intuitive power in human nature while man represents the rational mind. These are 2 complementary aspects of human nature". I got this quote from the book "Bede Griffiths: Essential Writings" If you are interested in reading his works, that is a great book to start from. Also "Return to the Center" is another amazing book he wrote.
We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labour prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake." (1 Thessalonians 1:2-5) ---->
---->"You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us." 1 Thessalonians Ch 1:6-9)
---->"They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath. (1 Thessalonians Ch 1:10)
When Jesus cried out "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me", it meant that the FATHER HAD ABANDONED HIS SON...NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. You have made an idol of yourself and God hates idolatory. Please test such ramblings by the light of Scripture so you are not deceived.
My Uncle, Meath Conlan (Diverse Journeys) introduced me when I was quite young in 1985, during Fr. Bede's first visit to Australia. He was everything he appears to be in this video and more - a truly exceptional human being.
Bellissimo, grazie per aver messo a disposizione questo bel video. Sto leggendo Fiume di compassione (River of Compassion) e spero di tornare a Shantivanam in settembre.
I miss him and love seeing these old videos that bring some of the memories back.

Amazing Man.
Everybody should read (the younger, the best) "MARRIAGE OF EAST AND WEST" by Bede Griffiths.
It is a book about the different myths from the East and West and about the female part of "God" that men tried hide for so long.
Female/Male, the Ultimate Reality is way beyond our intelligence.
The Ultimate Reality IS.
We CANNOT OWN the Ultimate Reality, but everyone CAN BE ONE with the Ultimate Reality.
