  • Thank you VERY MUCH!! VERY WELL DONE :) REALLY REALLY HELPFUL

  • um im having trouble with fractions just finding the varieble please help

  • @idfcb

Can you give a specific problem that you're having trouble with? I'll see what I can do from there! :-)

  • @sigilofbolias

Please don't use that language here. Can you be more specific would what is giving you trouble? I'd be happy to help! :-)

  • In the first question, if you take away two from both sides of the equation, instead of three, the answer you get is +4 instead of -4

IF YOU EXPLAIN THIS TO ME, I PROMISE I'LL SUBSCRIBE!!!

  • @DamionCrane We have to remember our overall goal - get the variable by itself. So taking away two doesn't help us since it's not on the same side as the variable. Here's what we'd get, if we start by taking away 2: (1/4)x + 3 - 2 = 2 - 2 (1/4)x + 1 = 0 Then we'd have to subtract one from both sides to get: (1/4)x + 1 - 1 = 0 - 1 (1/4)x = -1 Finally, multiply by 4/1, or just 4 on both sides to get the x by itself and get our answer. 4(1/4)x = -1(4) x = -4 I hope that helps! :-)
  • I'm in advanced math

  • Thanks this is awesomee but do more like one and two I'm only in seventh grade

  • thanks so much. my pre alg teacher doesnt explain anything then yells when we ask her how to do it in the morning

  • you should have done more problems with fractions, that would really help thx

  • @BeCavtotheMax

I'll add that to my "to do" list!

  • ITS CALLED THE FLIPPIN RECIPROCAL!!!!!!!

  • ty so much I needed this video to help me or i might have failed algebra

  • The flip is called the recipricol

  • @mbrandl11 I have a test tomorrow you helped me out a lot :)

  • "flip" I think you mean coefficient

  • @corvettefunstudios

That's true. More specifically, we're working with reciprocals or the multiplicative inverse of the fractions. :-)

  • This helped a lot I'm in 7th grade and doing algebra 1 so that means this is good>

  • @rotorx1851 im in 8th grade in pre algebra -.- thats awkward

  • what if the product of the fraction is a decimal?

  • @rotorx1851

Be careful. It is a "nice" decimal say .5 or .2 we can work with that, but if it is something like .33333333.... then we should keep it in fractional form. We never want to do any rounding. Double-check the denominators and see if there's something we could multiply through by in order to clear out all the fractions.

    I hope that helps!

  • oh my gosh thank you, i thought i was gonna fail my algebra class..

  • thank you soo much we have a math test tomorrow and i was so confused how to work with the fractions because we had to hand in all of our notes so ya i understand much better how to do this! thankku! =D

  • @BOLTACTIONWIGGAZ

    Thanks!

  • Thanks helped me get an A on my test. :)

  • but on the problem 1/2(k-8)=6, in the distributive property, dont u have to multiply 1/2 by 8/1's recipricol, which is 1/8,times 1/2, wud be 1/16 right? hahaha im confused

  • @crazykev209

Remember when we multiply fractions we just multiply straight across. When we divide fractions that's when we multiply by the reciprocal. With the distributive property we're multiplying.

I hope that's makes sense! Keep working hard! :-)

  • omg you saved my life i have a test tomarrow and im in math honors so im taking Algerba 1 while im in 8th and my teacher confuses all his students we had no idea what he was talking about...thank you so much for teaching me this. Best math teacher.

  • thanks! P.S. you have the best computer writing ever. When I write on computer, my writing is sloppy.

  • Thank you so much!!!! I was so confused by this but you helped me understand so much!!!! Great help and you teach in a way that's easy to understand!!!!

  • Thanks! I was seriously confused about this stuff, but it's a lot more clear now. Again, thanks so much. :)

  • thank you it was very helpful hope i pass that test

  • This helpedd ALOOTTT

  • this helps alot then my teacher because my teacher just tells us to write notes and gives us the work and she doesn't even help anyone she would be on her ipad on facebook or something.

  • you are better than khan acadomy

  • @MrWill7474

    Thanks! :-)

  • @MrWill7474 khan thats one of my friends name XD (shes a girl)

THX DUDE! i am subscribing this is EXACTLY what im learning in algebra 1 but i didnt understand

  • Thanks dude!! MY TEACHER SUCKS :P

  • @YOYpops

Let's not rip on teachers here. I'm sure some of my students have said that about me too, but you found what I put together helpful. Keep seeking out more info when you have questions! :-)

  • thanks an helped alot i needed help on math because im heading to the air force and this really simplified for me ha now im doing them like nothing

  • thanks this really helps in my summer camp!

  • thanks

  • Thank you so mush

  • Wow thank you so much!

  • thanks this helped alot !

  • Thanks Man, you really helped

  • THANK you so much life saver

  • this is really good job, it helped me with my math hw.

  • and it really worked, it helped me get the right answer to my questions. Thanks!! XD

  • im a really visual learner, its a little hard seeing it sloppy(not a diss im sloppy too) but it is harder to store in my memory for some reason... i like little boxes n steps to fallow... maybe even some diff colors? just some suggestions but thank ya!

  • @koldblooded1

    Thanks for the feedback.

  • @koldblooded1 im sorry but thats what she said... im sorry it was there

  • you are a life saver!!!! i have to make a 100 on every single test/quiz to stay at the magnet school im going to, to pass for the year and you just saved me

  • idk y but i cant get it in my fcking head!

  • @doulikepie2

Take a look at some of my other equation solving videos. I hope you'll find something there that can help! :-)

  • @mbrandl11

if i look at it a little earlier i may be able to get it instead of 11:00 pm, this video does help

  • @doulikepie2

    I'm glad to hear that!

  • thank u so much. my teacher sucks at explaining stuff. u ask her a question and she answers it like"well u uh subtract...then uh do this" or she does it so fast i cant tell wut shes doing. its like she doesnt even knw math. anyway thank u. i <3 u!!!

  • @Splashysnowy

It's good that you're willing to seek out other explanations when you're not understanding! That will help you a great deal! Keep working hard! :-)

  • Thank youuuu soo much :)

  • I'm a bit confused as to how this would work with variables.

    t/6 - 3 = 7

None of the videos I can find on here teach me how to solve it with variables. Help?

  • @arizonapositive

Start by adding three to both sides.

    t/6 - 3 + 3 = 7 + 3

    t/6 = 10

Then because the t is being divided by 6 we'll do the opposite to get rid of it.

    6(t/6) = 10(6)

    t = 60

Also, check out my video entitled "Lesson 7-1: Solving Two-Step Equations" for a couple examples of similar problems! :-)

  • I have midterms tomorrow and my teacher can't teach for her life! And when you ask her a question she says "I'll get back to you" and never does! Thanks so much, I'm much more confident now! :-)

  • Bless you MBrand! Thank you for your help.

You are an angel! We are so lucky to have your help. Best of luck to all the students. You can do it- and you will. By the way, I'm not a student but old enough to be all of your

great grannies! Good day to you all and best of luck. :-). Thank you again.

  • Thank you for the help you give others, sir.

Congratulations to those who picked it up.

Unfortunately, I'm still confused when there are fractions involved. Could you please help? 4x-1/2=270. Thank you so much!

  • @rachelkuz

We'l start by adding 1/2 to both sides.

    4x - 1/2 + 1/2 = 270 + 1/2

    4x = 270 1/2

Since we're working with the fraction, we'll convert the mixed number into an improper fraction.

    4x = 541/2

Then, we want to get the x by itself. Since it's multiplication we'll divide by 4 on both sides. However, we're working with fractions so I'll take a shortcut and multiply by 1/4, which is the same as dividing by 4.

    (1/4)(4x) = (541/2)(1/4)

    x = 541/8 = 67 5/8

    I hope that helps! :-)

  • what happens if the problem has the same variable ex:

    p + 1/3p =2/3 ??????

  • @loveX3123

We start by combining like terms.

    1p and 1/3p gives us 1 1/3p or 4/3p

We can then multiply by the reciprocal (3/4) on both sides to get the p by itself.

    (3/4)(4/3p) = 2/3(3/4)

    p = 6/12

    p =1/2

    I hope that helps! :-)

  • @mbrandl11 what happens if the 8 is on the outside and 1/2 is inside.. 8(k-1/2)=6?

  • @Krishneel1805

Then we'll start by distributing the 8 through to get rid of the parenthesis.

    8(k - 1/2) = 6

    8k - 4 = 6

Then get rid of the -4 by adding 4 to both sides.

    8k - 4 + 4 = 6 + 4

    8k = 10

Finally, divide by 8 on both sides and simplify to get the k by itself.

    8k/8 = 10/8

    k = 5/4

  • @mbrandl11 tnx i got an 87% on my test today :D

  • @Krishneel1805

Because you're willing to work at it! That will help you to be successful in anything! Awesome! :-)

  • ME DONT GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Dokiizen

What part is giving you trouble?

  • well im still failing math :p but dis wuz sumwhat helpful

  • I THOUGHT THAT THE LCD CAN NOT BE A NUMBER IN THE FRACTION? EXAMPLE:

1/4 AND 1/2 LCD HAS TO BE 8 NOT 4.

  • @MavsRangers00723

8 would be a common denominator, but it's not the least common. 4 would be the least common denominator of 1/2 and 1/4. Sometimes you don't have to work so hard! :-)

  • What program is this

  • @raulo316

I use CamStudio and record the video and Paint.NET as my "whiteboard".

  • OMG this helped me so much! THANK YOU!!

  • thanks a billion, hopefully i ace my test. coz i will be studying from your videos. very helpful too. more information detailed then my math teacher. LOL :)

  • how do you solve this problem?

    m-(7/-10)= -1 1/5?

  • @Wendyiscool94 The minus a negative on the left can be simplified to + m + (7/10) = -1 1/5 Convert the mixed number into an improper fraction to get: m + (7/10) = -6/5 Get a common denominator of 10. m + (7/10) = -12/10 Subtract 7/10 from both sides. m + (7/10) - (7/10) = (-12/10) - (7/10) m = -19/10 Convert the improper fraction into a mixed number for our answer: -1 9/10 I hope that helps!
  • How do you solve this problem:

    3/4m-5-1/2m=1

  • @Spartan366bb

Start by combining like terms to get:

    (1/4)m - 5 = 1

Then add 5 to both sides to get rid of the -5.

    (1/4)m - 5 + 5 = 1 + 5

    (1/4)m = 6

Finally, multiply by the reciprocal (4/1) to get rid of the 1/4.

    (4/1)(1/4)m = 6(4/1)

    m = 24

    I hope that helps!

  • this is going to help me on my test on monday which i didnt get at all ! thankyou !

  • i have a problem that looks like this 1/2(6-4x)-1/3(3x+9)=-4(x-7) ahhhhh

  • but its a little sloopy

  • thank you you actually show more than one example

  • u explain it better than my teacher!

  • I hate my math teacher but i like this one thumbs up if you agree

  • thx so much.

  • hey how do you solve this problem:

Jack earns 2/3 as much as Jill. His yearly income is $38,000. How much does Jill earn?

  • @ST3PH3N13 We're looking for how much Jill earns, so we'll call that x. Jack earn's 2/3 as much as Jill, so that is (2/3)x It also says that Jack's income is $38,000 so we can use that to setup an equation. (2/3)x = 38000 Solve the equation by multiplying by 3/2 on both sides. (3/2)(2/3)x = 38000(3/2) Simplify to get our answer: x = 57000 Jill's income is $57,000. I hope that helps! :-)
  • Thank you so much for the help. I was freaking out because one of my problems on my math homework was like this without the (+3). I figured it out!! Thank you,

  • thanks so much for the help!

  • Hey who started this company?

  • @techdecklover253

    This company?

  • Thank you! Seventh grade and algebra... It's a good mix for me. I didn't know how to do this because sometimes teachers leave us to figure things out our selves. (i take honors...)

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU HELPED ME ALLOT ON MY 8TH GRADE HOMEWORK!!! ;)

  • thank u ! :)

  • Thanks, I have a test comming up and I cant get more then 2 wrong, you made this easy for me, subbed, thanks for the help.

  • Thanks sooo much. This is helping me on my homework soo much

  • thank dude

  • @BOYDTRACK9

The top two examples are essentially that.

    They would be rewritten as:

    x/4 + 3 = 2 and d/2 + 2 = 3/4

Then we'd follow the same steps to get the variable by itself.

    I hope that helps!

I will add your request to my "to-do" list though as something to do in the future to make that more clear. Thanks!

  • Thanks for this :) I'm a college student taking remedial algebra cause math is the toughest subject for me and I've never really given it my full attention. thank goodness for youtube and people like you who like to help others out! :)

  • Why shall I going to school and sit there while the teacher yells at kids who ain't listening and waist my time ?

  • im in 8th grade i need help like in

    1/2(x+1)=2/7(x+14)

please help or im gonna fail algebra

  • @PauseProject18 We'll start by multiplying each side by 14 to get rid of the fractions. (14)(1/2)(x + 1) = (14)(2/7)(x + 14) When we multiply we end up with whole numbers in front of the parentheses. 7(x + 1) = 4(x + 14) Use the distributive property to get rid of the parentheses. 7x + 7 = 4x + 56 Subtract 4x from both sides to get all the variables on one side of the equation. 7x - 4x + 7 = 4x - 4x + 56 3x + 7 = 56 Subtract seven from each side and I think you can take it from there.
  • what is 3/2 = 9/10k?

  • @Sl33PY3Y3Z97

    Is it 9/10k or (9/10)k?

Let me know and I'll be happy to help from there! :-)

  • you kids today and your YOUTUBE! Man if i had this when i was in 8th grade.

  • OMG! those are the problems in the worksheet im doing right now thanks 4 some answers, oh and thanks for the vid i understand it muuuchhh better

  • thanks, it answered some confusion i had.

  • @latin01180 it cleared*

  • Great Video! Thanks for the help!

  • everything

  • @LauraChanel95

Perhaps watching some more basic videos about solving equations and working with fractions would be helpful?

I have some of each if you'd like to watch mine. Otherwise there are lots of great videos here on YouTube.

    Good luck!

  • it helps but i srtill dont really get it

  • @LauraChanel95

What part is giving you trouble?

  • thanks a lot man

  • thanx

  • oops figured it out on my own i just wanted to show u my problem for others wondering the same thing, r/16=6 take 6 and multiply it by 16 sothe answer would be r=96

  • what if the variables in the fraction

  • @Dmonkey2132 im with this person

  • I'm teaching this in 6th grade now, and I'm confident that this will really help my students as they are struggling doing 2-step equations with fractions.

  • Great! I'm glad it's helpful! :-)

  • You are a genius thank you so much, I feel dumb now!!!

  • There's no need to feel dumb. You're smarter now! :-)

  • Thankx for the help although Im still a little confused. Can you help me with this equation?

    Eg. 2v = -5/6

  • We want to get the v by itself so we'd usually just divide by 2. However, since we've got the fraction on the right side, we'll multiply by 1/2 on each side, which is the same thing.

    (1/2)2v = -5/6(1/2)

    We simplify to get:

    v = -5/12

    I hope that helps!

  • Thanks for the help!! It made my interim alot easier!!!

  • help me solve this...

    5 + (c/9) = -31

    ty :)

  • First we'll subtract 5 from both sides and simplify

    5 - 5 + (c/9) = -31 - 5

    c/9 = -36

Then we multiply by 9 on both sides and simplfy to get our answer

    9(c/9) = -36(9)

    c = -324

  • whats -9=-3/4e im confused

  • We can multiply by the reciprocal to get rid of the -3/4 and simplify.

    -9(4/-3) = (4/-3)(-3/4)e

    -36/3 = e

    -12 = e

    I hope that helps!

  • thanks ur amazing...i hav a huge test tomoro

  • What if the problem was something like:

    2/3y + 27 + 3/4y = -24? I am muee muee confused...

  • The easiest thing to do would be to get rid of the fractions by multiplying through by the LCM of the denominators, which in this case is 12.

    12(2/3)y + 12(27) + 12(3/4)y = 12(-24)

    Simplify to get:

    8y + 324 + 9y = -288

    Combine like terms:

    17y + 324 = -288

Now it should look familiar and you can take it from there. :-)

  • thanks and you have a great teaching skill and voice lol

  • THANX DUDE

  • awsome job

  • Thanks so much! I was stuck on the whole fraction thing on my homework!

  • saved my life/F

  • thanks I have a quiz tom. and Im so ready for it :)

  • thank you so much, this is why we love youtube, for education since teachers can't teach young students how to do it

  • ok! this explains why im looking and practing all this stuff cuz my teachers really dont know how to teach.

  • thanks man that helped me for my test

  • thanks man my math teacher just complaetley skipped some steps

  • Thanks buddy!

My math teacher totally skipped this part and when I got my homework I was like, WTF?! HOW DO I DO THIS?!?!

    xD

  • thanks it really helped !!!

  • Thanks so much for this video..it helped so much!

  • thanx man was stuck on my dumass summer assignments for school you helped me a bundle

  • thanks

  • I was really confused with this kind of equation because i watched three videos and they were all different.

  • Thanks for making this vid. I really didn't understand it and my final's tomorrow!

  • yo korin shut up this guy is nice enough to help people do math if you you dont need help then dont watch theas videos

  • i agree with you i feel much better in equations with decimals . Fractions look like the problem will take longer and take more of a challenge

  • thanks saved me from hw

  • I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm happy to help those who are interested in learning math.

  • thank you so much, this helped me alot, I have an exam tmrow and I did not know how to do this. BTW ure better than my math teacher at teaching.

  • thanks for the help

  • thank you very much but can you help me with this last problem?

    2/7k-1/14k=-3

the / sign represents fraction sign

  • Start by multiplying through by 14 to get rid of the fractions.

    14(2/7)k - (14)(1/14)k = -3(14)

    4k - k = -42

    Combine like terms

    3k = -42

Divide by 3 on both sides to get the k by itself and simplify.

    3k/3 = -42/3

    k = -14

  • can you help me with this equation:

    x/4-3x/2=-1/2

the / sign represents fraction signs

  • To solve, we'll first multiply through by 4 to get rid of the fractions.

    4(x/4) - 4(3x/2) = 4(-1/2)

    Simplify to get:

    x - 6x = -2

    Combine like terms

    -5x = -2

Divide by -5 on both sides and simplify

    -5x/-5 = -2/-5

    x = 2/5 or x = 0.4

  • i got the hang of the problems you were solving, but can you please help me solve this equation:

    6X 17/18 = -1/18

-when i put this sign: / it represents a fraction sign, not a division sign.

  • Is there something between the 6x and the 17/18?

  • ok im doing two step equations with fractions with the variables. its really confusing and my teachers not the best

    so i have

    15 + (-b/4) = 29

    the b4 looks like this

    b

    ---

    4 like a fraction but in ()
