As for the cut scenes they got Jim Lawson who has worked on the TMNT comics for the past 20 years to do. He has a unique style I have come to really like its interesting to see it animated. I actually just got this game and it isn't to bad I skipped it at launch because of the small roster and I am not huge on fighting games but its not to bad.

How did this game get a 7.0? It was horrible. It was WAY too floaty and all of the levels are out to kill you. You're spending more time avoiding alligators than your opponent.
Also the addition of 3 raving rabbid characters was a fucking curb stomp.
The reviewer probably didn't even play the game, he probably just saw the trailer and said "Oh it is like smash bros I know all about it now". The game was really bad. Anyone that played it in person would know.

@MrEvilGrin Nah, it's decent. IGN overrated Brawl. It was rushed with poor balancing and bad mechnics. In this some areas of the gameplay are better than Brawl. Fall speed is slow like Jigglypuff but Fast-fall is like Fox speed. I don't like how TMNT's chars have limited attacks, but unlike Brawl you are not rewarded for spamming. For the stages the same can be said for Brawl. Most stages have dumb hazards that make them not even worth playing on, just like Brawl. At least this has no tripping.

tmnt smash up is a fun game. the battle areas are more fun to fight on than super smash bros. there are many games that are almost the same such as call of duty and halo. Man... you...are not right. i would give tmnt smash up at least a 8.9.

The cutscenes use art from the ORIGINAL comics. Not the new cartoon, or the last movie, or even the old Archie Comics books from 20 years ago. That they used art modeled after the classic turtles is impressive to me.
This is a really good fighting game in my opinoin..sure it's not the 25 years in the making but it's still awseome and this deserves a 8.5 all I ask is that Ubisof makes a sequel with more characters/models, and stages and to all u die hard TMNT fans stop compelling that Krang didn't make it in cause he is..just because if a suit and name change doesn't meen that's not him...and honestly would u rather have the original Krang suit or this Epic new one?

I love the game and I like this review. I agree with most of his statements. But to say cut scenes are awful is completely IGNORANT. This is the art (inspired) from original B&W TMNT comic by Eastman and Laird and I really enjoyed it a lot. The game is obviously intended for TMNT fans that can appreciate small gems like this.

Brawl is better, but this has health bars so you don't fly 50mph from a punch, interesting characters that have a strong balence. Also, IGNorant game reviewer, no game is original. Everything copies something. Stop saying this is a direct copy of smash, because that's like saying brawl is a copy of melee, which is a copy or the original.

@fatmanrock44 You're missing the point. This is a TERRIBLE version of Smash Bros, and it's not available on any console except the Wii, which already got Brawl A YEAR EARLIER. Besides, Brawl has an excuse for being a "direct copy" of Melee, they're in the same franchise.

when I said the character roster was bad, I didn't mean that there wasn't enough characters. the turtle characters feel like clones, because their abilities are similar, and the special moves in this game are REALLY lame
but it doesn't change the problem that this game has:
the game lacks originality, and there's no point in playing when you've got a horrible character roster, and there's a similar, but far superior game out there that you can play
So what if it's a Smash bros. clone. A lot of people want to see other characters in SSB games, and this almost sort of grants their wish, even if it isn't against Mario or Link.
And BTW, the comic book art is NOT as bad as the reviewer makes it sound. It looks just like the actual TMNT comic books, which he probably never read. It's a lot better than JLH The Flash, that's for sure.
But I've never actually played the game yet, so I don't know if I'll like or hate it.
People who complain about the rights being bought from Konami to Ubisoft: So what? The turtle games by Konami were good, but didn't bring the shine the arcade games had. Ubisoft is really trying to bring the shine back. You have to admit this game is good. At least give them a chance.

it is better than this guy says because unlike smash bros the wiimote and nunchuk actually work and the cut scenes are ment to look like the old comic books and the levels are tiered which is cool and the combat system works fairly well and getting characters are easier to get you forgot about these things IGNorant fool

@wheelman298 what do u mean by "because unlike smash bros the wiimote and nunchuk actually work" brawl doesn't use motion controls, and if you are talking about plain button pressing of wiimote and nunchuk than ur still wrong, they work perfectly in brawl. but i do agree that this review is BS, it should be reviewed as a game instead of a comparison test.

OH MY GOD,they copy nitendo to many times!sega had sonic all star racing,madascar did kartz racing,crash did a copy of mario kart and mario party(dont know the names)and now this!all i know is nintendo did it first and still does it RIGHT!Super smash brawl pwns this game down to hell.but this game is still fun though,and its really for TNMT fans.i give it a 7.8!

I love the game and I like this review. I agree with most of his statements. But to say cut scenes are awful is completely IGNORANT. This is the art (inspired) from original B&W TMNT comic by Eastman and Laird and I really enjoyed it a lot. The game is obviously intended for TMNT fans that can appreciate small gems like this.

ok guys, really, stop ranting about this review. i'm sure there's a reason why this game has been getting generally similar, if not more negative, reviews. in fact, based on everything that i have seen and heard (quite a bit, actually), this review looks pretty accurate to me.
kwing's review doesn't count, becuase he often gives positive reviews to bad games, like g.i. joe. and don't say that game isn't bad, because it IS. i don't give a crap about anything he says about any game, anymore.

This game was disappointing. The best thing about it was Jim Lawsons' cut-scenes. I think if Ubisoft gets around to making a sequel, it could be alot better. But I doubt they will.

what mode in Brawl lets you take two characters and play tag-team? Which game has the better online and has TOURNAMENTS online? Yea, it has it's shortcomings, but TMNT smash up is a pretty deep fighter, you probably looked at it, saw that it was made by the same company that made brawl, and wrote this review. No, i'm not a fanboy, but this game derserves more then a seven.

Good point, and the health bars for this game makes it even more original, so you don't go 21 mph off the screen from a little hit.

Brawl is better, but this has health bars so you don't fly 50mph from a punch, interesting characters that have a strong balence. Also, IGNorant game reviewer, no game is original. Everything copies something. Stop saying this is a direct copy of smash, because that's like saying brawl is a copy of melee, which is a copy or the original.

@fatmanrock44 You're missing the point. This is a TERRIBLE version of Smash Bros, and it's not available on any console except the Wii, which already got Brawl A YEAR EARLIER. Besides, Brawl has an excuse for being a "direct copy" of Melee, they're in the same franchise.

@fatmanrock44 No, Brawl has brand new features that Brawl didn't, such as online play, that enhance it and make it better than Melee. Same goes with Melee and the original. TMNT: Smash Up, on the other hand, is just Brawl with a crappy character selection.

eeh no. Brawl is a SEQUEL to Melee. no game is original? everything copies something? then by your own words there HAS to be original games or there was nothing to copy :P
just look at Nintendo with all the original games, ways to play and game concepts they created since 1981 to see what i mean.
simply the concept of 'jumping over a pit' has to come from somewhere. and that idea was original for that first game that used it.

The guys that made Brawl also made this, keep that in mind before you start talking about it being a rip-off of brawl. To me I think this is like a prototype. They want to see if it has what it takes to hook people in, and when they do that they will make a second one that will fix different problems.

So what if it's a Smash bros. clone. A lot of people want to see other characters in SSB games, and this almost sort of grants their wish, even if it isn't against Mario or Link.
And BTW, the comic book art is NOT as bad as the reviewer makes it sound. It looks just like the actual TMNT comic books, which he probably never read. It's a lot better than JLH The Flash, that's for sure.
But I've never actually played the game yet, so I don't know if I'll like or hate it.

People who complain about the rights being bought from Konami to Ubisoft: So what? The turtle games by Konami were good, but didn't bring the shine the arcade games had. Ubisoft is really trying to bring the shine back. You have to admit this game is good. At least give them a chance.

Wow, just played this game today and I was right when i said this game was going to suck ass. I can't believe how terrible this is. This game is an even bigger piece of shit than smash bros. Probably the worst fighting game of all time. I'd rather play kung fu on the NES.
