  • Где нынешнему скрипачу найти такой классный маленький оркестр с классным дирижером?

Я уж не говорю, где найти такую скрипочку...

А нотки у нас тоже нажимать умеют. Даже флажолеты можем. Делов-то...

  • Schlomo Mintz's performance is unfathomable. Excellent set. Tahnk you.

  • i really loved it too

did you see the shaham video yet on you tube? I also think you should hear Shaham's studio recording, in addition to that I like the recordings by Gitils, and Heifetz and Yulian Stikovetsky.

Its a shame it was never recorded by Rabin or Kogan.

Recordings I would like to hear but never have include Zukerman and Szeryng.

  • Scotty I have just watched the live recording of Mintz's Sibelius 3rd movement 07:33, and it is great "Mintz"-and then Gil Shaham's Sibelius Violin Concerto performance Dm 4of 4 7:26, but it does not have the warmth that Schlomo Mintz's performance has. Have another look, open both up in seperate windows and you will notice that Gil Shaham's approach is brisk and it loses the warmth and clarity that Sibelius's VC should have. Schlomo Mintz has the right temperment.

  • a very interesting intelligent and perceptive statement - i remember having a conversation with a violinist friend of mine a long time ago and she told me she thought shaham lacks "attack" in his playing - i could not really disagree

nonetheless somehow shahams sibelius has always been my favorite for some reason even more than heifetz, mintz and gitlis

you need to hear gitlis play this, it is a virtuoso concerto and he played it like a true virtuoso, even more than even heifetz did

  • I really love Gitlis' Bartok #2. THE BEST!

  • my favorite bartok 2 recordings are actually kyung wha chung first and perlman second

  • have you heard Gitlis? incredible! I never understood Chung's playing. I know she is highly thought of. I just never will go out of my way to listen to her.

  • yes i have the gitlis recording you speak of

  • I heard Oleh Krysa do an excellent Bartok #2. I believe he was at Eastman at the time. Krysa was a Kogan student reportedly.

  • I just wanted to throw in some perspective on Chung's playing, of course, just my opinion. I don't place her quite on the same level as I would Heifetz, Mintz my mind has system of "levels".I do think she is an excellent player and can be a good reference if one is learning a piece, especially if one has small hands. I liked her textured bowing in the third movement, it was different and just edgy enough that I felt it. Not my favorite performance but it was interesting...

  • her beethoven and bruch for me no one even came close have you heard her recordings of those concertos also the strauss and respighi sonatas are all perfect recordings

  • I also have to say I really appreciate the way she seems to love the instrument and it is reflected in her face and smile; her face is like a real time visual of the joy my own heart feels when I play. I have never seen a soloist more gracious to a conductor. Many of the younger violinist come to their concerts looking like they just rolled out of bed. I also admire how utterly relaxed she is and her Vitali Chaconne was helpful when I was learning it. She has some fine qualities.

  • I love the way you think..because usually I so agree! I had to come back here this morning and have coffee since I am addicted to Shlomo. He has it ALL. Absolute mastery of the instrument and artistry to match it. I can't watch the live recording this early in the morning-I'll wait until it's time for my shower.
