Horn sounds like one of those Japanese cars from the late 70's. Nice car, but it's still a Hyundai and I feel that the "excitement" of buying a new one would wear out fast.
Is there a model where you can chose manual transmission, navigation and sunroof? I mean all 3 on the same car....because i only saw navigation screen on the model with automatic transmission.
@MotCatalin Nope, you can only get the manual on the GLS model. Becareful as that model is the base and doesnt come with A/C unless you add the comfort package.
The Elantra does not get 40MPG highway. Check out that data on the website 'fuelly'. Consumer watchdog has sent a letter to president Obama and to the EPA stating that you car does worse that what the EPA tests reveal, and Chevy Cruze consistently does better than what it's EPA values are. Both the Elantra and Cruze are 33MPG combined).
The Cruze gets an average of 28% better mileage than the Elantra.
Stop lying please. My mother got an Elantra, always in Eco mode, can't get more than 25MPG
I noticed how quiet this car is when you shut the door. Did anyone notice that too? The highway was so loud but when he closed the door, it was like he was anywhere near the highway. Nice review. I just saw that this car won the North American car of the year for 2011. Good job Hyundai.
When the "consumer watch dog" of the consumer organization measured the fuel consumption of Hyundai Elantra in response to consumers' complaint, it was before and after an average of 25 MPG.
The organization announced officially, saying, "The real fuel consumption of Elantra has large deviation with catalog fuel consumption."
In quest of fuel consumption re-measurement of Hyundai Elantra, it appealed to EPA, and came out.
With the report dated September 22, the journalist of USA TODAY is writing that the average fuel consumption of Hyundai Elantra which self purchased was only 22MPG.
Moreover, by the trial ride test of U.S. motor magazine Motor Trend, it is shown clearly that it remained in an average of 26.5 MPG(s).
I use o think that hyundai was a bad car. They USE to be unsafe, cheap, and un-popular. Now that they've gotten safer, I like Hyundai and have this car on my top 5 fav cars list
I have not insulted you so I don't know why you insist on name calling. Calling people stupid or trolls does not prove your point.
The more you respond the more people will google search "elantra mpg usa today", then they will read the article. So call me a troll (or stupid) again and help me prove my point.
@Tom15452 No, I do not work in the auto industry. I just simply am disappointed with my car's mpg. Other then that the car is great, it has very nice styling and the interior is fantastic for the price.
@danjoe79 I don't think you have read what I've been saying. I read everything I could find on google about it. Found nothing, I found people like you. I mean, you could atleast try.... If you want to bash other manufacturers, atleast say like... 24, or 26 mpg. but 20? Their was even a guy claiming 13 mpg, 13.. lol jesus. I mean, make it believable guys come on. Don't listen to the trolls guys. I drove to birmingham last week, got 42 avg after fill up. After work for a week ended up at 36.2.
@PHYSCO331 Like I said I drive in town. I have no problem with high way mpg, but I rarely drive on the highway. Why don't you look at consumer reports who put the car at 39/20 which is in line with what I get. I guess consumer reports is also a troll?
I suggest that if you are considering buying this car that you don't trust me or anyone else on youtube but instead read the consumer report for the car and do your own in-town mpg test when you test drive.
My 2011 elantra gets 20 mpg in the city :( and I am very disappointed with the car. My dealer told me that the in town gas millage is not as good as the stick claims and I should run chevron gas to improve my gas millage? Buyer beware!
@danjoe79 Lol, strange, my elantra gets average 36, street 31, I think you miss typed the year of your elantra. Maybe you have a 2001, because you don't own the same car I do. Lol, a 4 cylinder getting 20mpg, you crack me up troll.
@PHYSCO331 The car is in eco mode and I drive very conservatively trying to maximize my gas millage. All I am saying is that I am very frustrated because I bought this car for the gas millage and I am spending more on gas now compared to my 2007 honda civic. If you are think of buying this car for gas millage you should do your own gas millage calculation on a test drive because there seems to be a significant number of elantra's that are not getting any where near the in town gas millage.
@danjoe79 Let me say again, I own this car. I get the Epa mileage. Derp. Let me get this straight. You got rid of a 2007 Honda Civic, only 5 years old. Probably paid of by now unless your interest sucked, to get a car which will probably have a lower resale value of the honda in 5 years.... I smell a troll.
@PHYSCO331 why dont you google search elantra gas millage in the news category. If you do that you may also want to call consumer watchdog, motor trend magazine, owners at edmonds.com and usa today a troll as well. In fact because so many consumers are complaining about the elantra's gas millage the EPA is investigating Hyundai's gas millage claims.
@danjoe79 Wow, what is your problem, why do you feel a need to blatantly lie?? When I floor my elantra, keep in mind FLOOR it, it gets 26. 22-25 mpg combined???? god damn do you even read what you say. The EPA is investigating Hyundai's claim??? CLAIM?? CLAIMM?? wow... It's EPA certified. THE EPA CONDUCTS THE TEST NOT HYUNDAI. Jesus, lol. "I love fords so I'm going to go to a video of a different manufacturer and blatantly make stuff up... Are you trolling or are you just stupid?
the other comment said thank your country and he or she is right you are blessed youre in america. also in our country philippines this car cost around $20,000 the low end. terible taxes. the other model cost double.
why does the trunk on this one rise about half way when you press the button on the remote? (the GLS in your other video does the same thing). On mine, the trunk doesn't move when when i press the button
All the hybrids on the market use NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) batteries, which contain no heavy metals (so they're not hazardous waste, like the Pb-A batteries), and are easily recycled. very disappointed with hyundai..this is my second elantra. they ran a huge ad campaign about elantra economy car 29-35 mpg city 40-45 hwy. salesman guaranteed it would get at least 29 mpg city.
I went to a Hyundai dealership just to see one of these, and I think it's an excellent car. I don't think I'll ever get used to the exterior styling, but I really want one of these with a manual transmission. I hope that I can get one within the next two years. Love your vids Kyle, they never disappoint.
I like most everything Hyundai/Kia sells (minus the Azera, sorry!). Any case, I am on my 6th-AND LAST - Honda - an '04 Accord EXV6 coupe. There is nothing that Honda makes that I can see myself liking. I think that this Elantra Ltd (or a Sonata GLS or Tuscon/Sportage). I took my aunt to a local Hyundai dealer 3 Saturdays ago. She drove & bought a new Santa Fe on the spot. Kudoes Hyundai and thanks Kyle for your 'tours'. You do a great job (the salespeople owe you many finders fees!!).
i think @damieg82 is right in the fact that european and asian manufacturers are doing very efficient cars with better performance..but i disagree in the hating american thing cuz of their "love for cubic inches" thats no reason to hate a group of people.
btw, american auto makers are making efficient vehicles to protect the planet, like the chevy volt, cruze(small engine with good power), and ford is making more efficient and cleaner engines(Ecoboost), so they are trying to be eco-friendly
@YoungOldSchoolRapper you're a clear example of why the rest of the world does not like Americans. European and Asian car manufacturers are continually downsizing engine capacities, while increasing performance and economy with the use of direct injection, turbo & supercharging, start/stop systems, on-demand alternators and water pumps, and on and on... why? to save oil and cut pollution. Clearly such global issues of grave importance have no meaning to dumb, cubic inch loving Americans
@YoungOldSchoolRapper Ugh. Another dipshit on YouTube. Wtf is a smart car? These cars gets excellent gas mileage, looks, and are really nice to drive. 2.0's are good. It shows how much power Hyundai can put into a "small" engine. It seems to me tht you think that horsepower the only thing that detirmines how good a car is.
@YoungOldSchoolRapper im all in for a bigger engine but during these times some just cant afford the fuel and the smart car is complete crap much like the prius nothing like this
I used to be deeply against Korean cars but after driving one of these in Korea last month from Seoul to the East Coast, my opinion has completely changed.
It is refined quiet, very spacious inside and good quality, much better than European fords such as Ford Fiesta/Focus. The amount of kit you get for the price is amazing and i think its very stylish with the low sweeping lines
@TAKEAPlLL I would ask the people who are walking away from the boring overpriced Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans. Take a look. Hyundai is on the move. Have you seen the new 2012 Civic? I have a toaster that has sexier sheet metal. I drove the new Alantra. It really is nice.
@TAKEAPlLL I have seen so many new Hyundai's and Ford's this past year so far from California and recently in New York/Canada. Apparently, Sonata's, Elantra's, and Focus' are selling like hot cakes.
Thanks a lot. Very informative, I don't have time to go to dealerships and look at cars but it's videos like this that help me to make my decision. Thanks again!
i was having a drag race with a 2011 black elantra a few hours ago XD... he almost won me lol but that didnt happened :D.. i actually kept staring the car all the time.. the new elantra in black is awesome looking :P
@mrzack888 because people just want to stick with what they know it will be reliable...i wont choose the new elantra just because the outside styling is kinda weird.. but if it were everything else, id choose it, its well built and comfortable(i sat on one the other day). i wouldnt choose corolla or civic(8th gen civic) because they're boring in styling... my choice of a compact car is the lancer, very aggressive styling and i havent had any problens with mitsubishi cars :D
I had the choice of renting a Camry or the Hyundai. I choose the Elantra and I've driven more makes of cars (that includes cars you've probably never heard of) and more miles than probably anyone on YouTube. This is by far one of the best cars I've ever operated. Absolutely fantastic car!
It's amazing how similar the shift knob and bezel for the shift gates is to the Hyundai Equus. All that the knob is missing is the winged horse logo from the Equus. Now, that either tells us that the Elantra is upscale or the Equus shift knob and automatic transmission detail in the cabin is sub-par. My take: there should be a leather surround around the metal auto shifter. This is true in the Chrylser 300 too but I digress.
Someone should seriously give you an award or promotion for doing such a great job on this review. This video should be used as an example on how to thoroughly review a car. Let's give this guy some thumbs up :)
I testdrove one of these today and loved it. I set the cruise at 60mph, straight and level, instant mpg was 46.2! for about 5 miles.... awesome.... now I just need to sell the wifes Audi. I am 6-2, I set the drivers seat all the way back, then got in the rear seat behind the driver and had plenty of room
I'm almost sold on it. It's between this and another car in a different class. However for the price you cannot beat this. I don't know who would go with a boring toyota or honda when this is available.
@saabkyle04 I'm looking into this car, is there anyway you do a "getting to know your vehcile" video on the touch screen audio/navigation system on this car. Or do you have one already? And what are your thoughts on the base Genesis Coupe?
i just cant ever get into a hyundai and i often chuckle when i see someone driving on them and lately i have been chuckling a lot :/

very disappointed with hyundai..this is my second elantra. they ran a huge ad campaign about elantra economy car 29-35 mpg city 40-45 hwy. salesman guaranteed it would get at least 29 mpg city.

@lgardner2014 my grandma bought one of these in may and the highest mpg she has gotten is 30 on the highway and I'm like really?

I went to a Hyundai dealership just to see one of these, and I think it's an excellent car. I don't think I'll ever get used to the exterior styling, but I really want one of these with a manual transmission. I hope that I can get one within the next two years. Love your vids Kyle, they never disappoint.

are you sure these are 17 alloy wheels not 16? because suzuki (in our country) sells only 15 and 16

I am in love with this car and I currently own a 5.0 Mustang :o It get's terrible fuel economy though. I hope I can afford an Elantra soon...

TAKEAPlLL 6 months ago
@TAKEAPlLL I would ask the people who are walking away from the boring overpriced Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans. Take a look. Hyundai is on the move. Have you seen the new 2012 Civic? I have a toaster that has sexier sheet metal. I drove the new Alantra. It really is nice.
DrewFaron 6 months ago
@TAKEAPlLL I have seen so many new Hyundai's and Ford's this past year so far from California and recently in New York/Canada. Apparently, Sonata's, Elantra's, and Focus' are selling like hot cakes.

why would anyone want to buy a civic or corolla after seeing this.
mrzack888 7 months ago
