Beautiful and warm sound... but maybe too pretty for this aria? I prefer the angst-ridden sound of someone like Bruson in this aria. Herlea sounds passionate but not troubled to me. Just my opinion.
• "At the MET a night to sit back and relax! Forza del Destino - ... It was Nicolae Herlea's first Don Carlo, and his was the one stage figure who lent dramatic credence. It was sung with rich warm suavity, implicit with feeling and acted with grace and intelligence." New York Herald Tribune
@bettervoice BEST?
@bodiloto@bodiloto No problem bodiloto! It's your taste! But you've had to check your ears&musical feeling even back in the days when you were young because if you didn't hear the difference between a belcanto voice and actors potential on stage than you'll be left alone with your idea. On the other side you believe the hype! So if you do go on but then you have to admit that the press showed the most respect to Herlea and you can't compare Boccelli who's not a baritone and TODAYs artists!
@bodiloto who tells you that I didn't hear Herlea on stage?? I let you know one thing: if you have no interest in the material WHY do you listen to it? You already expressed your opinion, live with your opinion but don't try to tell the audience what they have to feel about it! Herlea was live a mistery and as we read your lines we get to know: you don't know anything about BELCANTO! And if you say that Boccelli is a baritone then what's more to say about it? HAHA! Go on listening to YOUR heroes
Ciao.
@bodiloto Si, Herlea non piace solo a me, ma anche a million people who love belcanto! e se non vi piace stop comment on this! Who do you try to convince about the artist you prefer? What's your problem Mister? You don't know me and you don't know realize that you're getting ridiculuos if you compare all the time these of your singers. But maybe it's another problem you have, I wish you the best Signore. Never judge another person you don't know in particular!
Niente.
@bodiloto sorry but your english must be very bad and my italian is not good enough but you don't unterstand what I'm talking about: if you don't like it, you don't! So live you way and let others too! The entire audience and press and the work is the testimony that Herlea is one of the greatest singers and artist (which you can't find so easy on stage!) and let everybody build his own opinion. Addio Mister bodiloto! Stay peacefull. Maybe you didn't get an autograph at that time.
If you are a baritone, and a good one at that, get into a contest or do whatever... Go be the match or get close to this man's singing. Than you can rest assured you have done something, tell that to your children and grandchildren... He is the baritone of our heart, senses and era.. Some tried and won, & you know them.. But try to beat the guy... beats me to think about :D

This is just gorgeous. Re: Hvorostovski in this aria - he just never takes a breath! His rendition is also wonderful. But this voice is soooooooo seductive.
He's amazing singer. Sometimes I think it's a bass. Seems like he's using a lot of chest resonators. It makes voice soft, but requires a lot of strength.

That is just role for him.

Yes he is still singing but slowing down a litlle.
