junk food is NOT cheaper. good nutrious food takes some time to prepare and cook. you can make pasta or potato gnocchi, a huge pot of sauce (which a family can have for several meals) you can can foods - i.e. make pickles when cucumbers are in season and store them. make large pots of soup. buy fruits and veggies when they are in season (they are also much cheaper then.) you can even make cheap (and more nutrious food) for your pets if you just take the time to do it.
Concerning junk food. Why don't we teach our children how to grow food? I believe that this should be a required study in every school and every grade. We'll teach them proper grammar and algebra but no life skills. Every one alive should be growing their own food and if you don't know how, go to the library and find out.
@amygow23, I agree. The suggestions in "Population Decline is Part of the Solution" on YouTube is a good start: voluntary reduction in the number of children. Educating women has proved to help - giving them more options.
We cannot force those Pakistanis to reduce the number of children they have. However, through political means, both economic and security wise, we reduce the turmoil in their lives so they don't feel the need to secure their lives with more children. The best way to reduce population sizes is to educate women, and to lower infant mortality rates. That is my kind of population control.
My 1984 Volvo finally rusted to oblivion, the engine ran fine, what replaced it was a Honda "FIT". A 1.5 liter engine, great mileage car that is fun to drive.

@CTOL1, I salute you! That's a good long run for your car - good going! And I'm making split pea soup for this rainy day as I reply. It can be fun and very satisfying to use less, to enjoy simpler pleasures, be more connected to the food we eat and the earth beneath our feet. ~ Janaia
@mythic89 what planet are you living on? do you not know about peak oil production? we have hit it ! from now on gradually fuel prices will continue to increase, people will have less to spend on other things which screws up the economy ( already happening ) look at it this way, 20 bucks more I spend on fuel, is 20 bucks I didnt use at a movie, or some jeans, go to the fair, or whatever, those dollars go to the middle east, demand is increasing but production is not, no need to be a hippie to

Man I've had enough. You open your program with the statement that temps are rising. This is a proven lie. Temps are dropping!
You want to do something about our vehicles then get a group up and have a farmer grow a fuel crop and run your vehicles on alcohol.
Bad gas mileage with your car. Get a oxygen sensor, see assured gas use sensor, and get a unit that allows you to control it. It will get you 10 to 20 percent more mileage.
We use intelligence instead of oil to produce food to sustain populations of this size on this planet. We also have the means to eliminate poverty and that will stop population expansion.

Thank you for leading the host back again and again and again, to the idea of personal power and responsibility. He might not have heard you, but I did. Nice job.

@Axbent -- Yes, the host had on-track moments, but every time Janaia got down to the brass tacks of actually shifting the mindsets that affect behavior and ventured into the territory of personal action, he'd pop off with another nonsequitorial rantfact about "society" or "the government" or some other naughty horrible "them". It's fun, but being a left wing limbaugh about other people and how they keep us down won't fix the hole in the bottom of the boat.

@whateverkcm I think the host had very good things to say. He acts "a little* Asperger-like though! Not judgemental just my perception.
