  • There's a ton of salt already in the pig, so I leave the salt out. Pretty good stuff. Do you still live with your Momma? Just kidding.

  • If you really want them to taste good add about 4 scoops of sugar, then they will be good , that takes the bitter taste out.

  • Yum Yum Yum!! we just picked turnips out of the garden, first time growing them... we usually just get 'em frozen, but trying it out frest first time this year. Love how your mama cooked it up! Awesome!

  • GREAT RECIPE! I'm a Southern Cook myself, and I must say your Mom is the BOMB DOT COM!

  • Can you show us how to cook dressing for Thanksgiving? Thank you

  • Yummmmm :-)

  • she is so sweet..............

  • way way too much salt in all aspects-- 6gr per day, undermining the health the health of greens btw steaming retains more vit's

  • WOW! Thank Momma for me : ) Greens = Love

Question: How long do you cook the turnips before adding the greens?

Answer: Until I finish washing the greens

  • WOW! Thank Momma for me : )

  • The guy asking the questions made me lol the whole time.

    LOL!

Anyway, I want to try turnip greens but I hear they are bitter. Is this true?

  • @LogicNYC If your Greens are bitter add about a teaspoon of baking soda and that will take the bitter out of the greens.

  • Nothing like that beautiful pot liquor after those greens have cooked down! Great videos!

  • If you use a plastic spatula when you stir for a long time, it could melt into the pot. Better to use a wooden spoon .

    Looks delicious!

    Yee Ha!

  • cant here a word

  • Nigger love some greens

  • I had to switch to smoked turkey because of my health, but thats the best way to cookem' go head sister!

  • Mmmmmm. I randomly searched "Turnip" (I was bored), and this video popped up. Now I'm hungry! LoL

  • sarap!

  • Where is Evelyn from? I am from East, TN...near Knoxville..she reminds me so much of my Mom.

  • yum

  • i agree, i would definitely buy a dvd if it had enough recipes on it, but you need to get a mic for your mom, its hard to hear her... or add captions maybe if a mic isnt available, alot of homemade cooking videos do that...

  • Thanks for posting. If you make a DVD of thisi make sure to get a microphone to put on your mom. Sometimes it was hard to hear what she was saying. Looks really good though.

  • Growing up in Ga. Mama added a tsp. sugar to deal with any bitterness in the greens.

  • Very nice demonstration of turnip cooking.

  • GO MOM!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm from el paso, tx doing some cooking for a 5th grade garden thank you-looks great!

  • Man...your mom is really cooking, making me hungry. Turnip greens are the best, they have that certain flavor that just kicks butt over all the other greens. Great Video!

And I love being a black southern girl :)

  • Me nd my grandma make em a similar way

I just use more bacon grease lik left over from breakfast nd mix the turnip greans w/ mustard greens

nd i've never used the actual root of the turnip might have to try it sometime

I love bein a southenr girl

    haha :)

  • I love turnip greens i have some growing in the garden along with Collard . I like to mix them together. Nice video the same way i make mine my grandma always made hers that way as well

  • Ham hocks, neck bones, bacon, I've used them all. I do prefer the flavor ham hocks give though. I also prefer Collard Greens vs Turnip Greens. Collard greens are thicker but I dunno maybe its just me but Turnip Greens have this bite (taste wise) to them I don't like as much.

    Btw...Your Mom kicks butt.

  • My grandmom makes hers the same way!

  • LoL im eating mustard greens right now haha. Taste somewhat the same

  • My greens were a little tough, so I just used the turnips. Thanks for posting!

  • Great, I grew some turnips this summer and have no clue how to cook them, this reminds me of how my mom cooks snap beans, same receipe. Now if your mom could just adjust the recipes for a diabetic with high blood pressure and high cholesterol, you might have a great cookbook on your hands, and unique.

  • NICE !

    it's a good video with good details . . .

I like the information & it is a clear-cut process without the noncense.

Some of the best cooking is what mothers cook for their families.

    THANKS MOM

  • no sound.

  • Sound is back. Thanks.

  • thank you man.

    great video!

  • ...Please ask your mother if she will post more cooking videos. This was great!!!

  • You make sure you give your mom a big hug for doing this video. She just taught me a lot!

I just made some collard, turnip, mustard, and kale greens. I washed them all one leaf at a time! I let them boil for about 1 1/2 hours because I didn't know I needed to put the lid on them! Now I know! They still turned out really good though. The teenagers who are finicky eaters even liked them!

I put smoked turkey in them instead of bacon though and used seasoning salt. (Cont')

  • super old school, i love it!!

  • My mama in Arkasas did it the same way! My mouth is watering watching you taste that hahahahaha! Thanks guys!

  • Thank Mom for showing this--I learned this technique from my Mama. Yankees just don't know what they're missing.

  • You can add pig tails!

Thanks for the video. I am Pennsylvania Dutch and my mom never made greens. I love canned greens. But now I can make authentic southern greens. Thanks to you and your mom.

  • Love this video! Thanks mom!
